I made a call to Bobby Rone, one of the principles of the Galveston Tournament and got his permission before I made this post.

Ed Hagan of Diamond Sports Marketing recently returned from a site inspection of the proposed Galveston event. He reported all is well as the place is huge and a very nice location for the event. Plans are for 180 tables to be used. 48 are 9fts and 132 7fts.

For an event of this size Diamond requires a 75% Deposit for table delivery and rental which is to be paid on June 1 2009. Since this is no small amount it will serve, at least for Diamond, assurance the event will go on as scheduled. I'll be glad to post again in the future as things progress.

Events of this magnitude IMO would be a blessing for Pool and I want to do all I can to make this happen. I told Bobby some of my concerns and offered my help. I only hope everyone gives them a chance and they take the right steps to make this work....Greg/Diamond

Greg,

Many of us down here in Texas are very excited about something like this in our backyard.

I think that when you consider events such as the BCA League event in Vegas, those teams have played together for some time and have planned for months to go and play together. I can't see ANY way possible that this event could be successful for THIS September. September 2010, yes. There are SO many unanswered questioned and June deadline for tables is only weeks away.

Greg...Thank you for posting about this. Obviously information from the "horse's mouth" is the best possible. EVERYONE here certainly hopes this event can go off, as planned. There are, however, MANY unanswered questions...as Bigtruck, and many others have noted, in the other thread. Let us know when the table payment has been made (and cleared). That, at least, will guarantee that something is going to happen. Hopefully Bobby Rone will come one here, and address some of the issues others have brought up.

Thanks Greg!

Bobby Rone allowing you to disclose dates and percentages in a typically private business matter is a very significant, positive, and exactly right thing to do!

When reading Greg's post, my first impression was.....that's a lot of money 3 months in advance. Then I started thinking about 1) having that many tables available at the right time and 2) Having, 6 minimum, 18 wheelers available with 53 ft trailers to haul them all in at the right time. Sounds very reasonable to me.

Major planning involved by ALL!!

Good news, straight from the table source. When are you coming back to Kansas City so I can bust you some more:embarrassed2::embarrassed2:, er I mean lose more money to you in one pocket.:thumbup:

This is an example of what is needed to put up such a huge event. Renting 180 tables and putting money up-front before any event is not an easy task. If the proposed event does not fill to expected capacity, the promoter of the event is already in the red. The upfront money does not include promotion in magazines, websites, and making/sending out flyers, etc. Not many people are willing to such compromises. I sure hope "the people" support this proposed event.

I sure hope this event come off, as long as I'm ft. above grown I'll be there. If and when he pays for the table I'll book my room and send my entry fee if their is a Seniors division, otherwise I'll be there to support the event.

This definitely should be a historical event that I, or any player would want to be apart of.

Maybe if we can just get this event off the ground, then improve it each year by adding events for everyone.

But as you know, allot of people have big ideal that really are just dreams. You wake up the next morning to reality.

This could be the future of pool!

One big problem I see is no one promoting this event has ever been involved with promoting this type of event and not asking for help from anyone that has.

Jay Helfert has put himself out there along some others to help, but I haven't seen any response or consideration of wanting help from experienced promoters.

Just a lot of concerned people wanting answers.

Big Tourney at Moody Gardens

I see straight from the horse's mouth there is a milestone to be made 01-June-2009.

Hard to predict on the 15th of April 2009 what Diamond will think at the first of June till the wire transfer is in their bank.

This ain't Diamonds first Rodeo.

Charlie,

It's when the guys, with the T-shirts from being there and done that, start asking the questions and no one answers them. Not good.

Come on guys! Let's get a PR man to flag all these inquiries!

Ken, The head ref in Vegas that was commenting on the TAR stream made the comment that the table contract was finalized. Is this correct??

Right around the corner

Greg,

A very sincere thanks for the info! The table deposit is due almost immediately and that is the last thing needed for me to be sure that there will at least be an event. The first year may or may not be perfect but few of the major events are. We remember how well things work after years of experience and tuning and forget the less than smooth beginnings.

Things are sounding better all of the time. I won't be playing but I am hoping to visit for a few days. Too soon to tell but aside from meeting a lot of folks I would like to meet it would be nice to say I was there for the first one if it is one of the biggest events in the world in a few years.

Hey, it's June first!

What's the morning line on the deposit? Is it time to make some reservations?

I don't think saddlebow is in a hurry. Greg said TODAY is the deadline for deposit which is getting me excited too! Greg also said he would post updates as they progressed. No updates yet.

I sure hope this happens!! It will be a blast!
