What tip do you use?

Everest, Kamui MS, Kamui Black M and a Moori Quick...they all serve a purpose in my life..or so I think haha

Mike Johnson's Milkdud.
As soft as possible.
His tips are med/hard but play softer than any tip I have ever used. I have been playing with them for about a year and do not remember miscueing once.

Talisman, and thanks for the reminder its time for a new one on my daily player. I change them every couple of years.

In the last month, I've used these tips:

Tiger Everest: A great-playing tip. At first, it had some problems holding its shape, but after the tip was completely broken in, it played great. Excellent feel for a medium tip. Plenty of cue ball control, little maintenance required.

Tiger Sniper: Again, a tip that offers great feel and a decently firm hit for a softer tip. This tip replaced the old Everest on my player just to be experimented with, but I think I might prefer a slightly softer tip playing games that demand large cueball movements. Minimal mushrooming if the tip isn't burnished like a mofo, though.

Kamui Medium: This tip came on a Universal Smartshaft given to me by a patron of the hall I go to, kind of as a New Years present. At first, I thought the tip played funny; I thought the tip played harder than a medium. After some use, though, I grew to like the hardness. This tip plays closer to a "real" medium tip, and the Everest plays a touch softer than this. I use this tip/shaft combo specifically for straight pool and on the barbox.

kamui MS and i love it.

The real question is though what are some of the better players on here using?
Like John schmidt, SVB, Joe T or bartam.

I know earl was using a WB recently and swore up and down that it was the best tip out there.

ElkMaster

Monstermash:

As you probably saw in my post in that other thread, ElkMaster for me. My preference used to be LePro, then [...tried a bunch of other stuff...], then Triangle, and finally fell in love with ElkMaster. I'm a touch/feel player (have to be in straight pool), and I love the "feel" and "grip on the cue ball" that ElkMaster seems to give me. Elkies *definitely* hold chalk well (no matter the brand), and because of the seeming "grip" they offer me on the cue ball, I seem to have better control of the cue ball because I can "feel" it better.

So, to summarize the answers to your three questions below:

1. ElkMaster
2. Soft (Elkies are only available this way that I'm aware of)
3. Answered above.

Hope this is helpful,
-Sean

Hey all,

This thread is kind of a spin off of another post. There was a discussion regarding different types/brands of tips and whether different ones create more action on the cueball and if there is a difference in their ability to hold chaulk.

So the questions are....

1. What brand of tip do you use?

2. What hardness do you prefer?

3. Why do you use the brand you use and the specific hardness?

Currently, I am using Triangle, Everest, Moori, and Talisman Pro. Hell, I like 'em all. The cue ball can't seem to tell the difference.

I really like the milk dud tips that I make. It takes a couple of weeks the way I do it, but I love the results.

Triangle med.

You have to make sure to match the tires to the wheeles, some cues need a hard tip others need soft tips, trial and error, expericenc and practice will lead you in the right direction,

Leather.

I really don't know. I never changed what came on my cues. My Tiger X shaft had a sniper (?) on it, it was fine.

I don't know what my Zachow came with, layered, medium to medium hard, sometimes miscued with it, but I'm blaming that on the big ol' fatty shafts (I need to get those turned down...).

My Ollivier has some kind of layered, as does my Stacey.

I really think I am going to rip all of them off and replace with LePro.

No, I am not joking.
you have a zachow? his is probably the coolest cue maker's website i've ever seen. any pics in the gallery?

I like hard tips. Started out with a Triangle, wandered over to Moori, Everest and Wizard but I don't primarily shoot with any of them anymore. Currently have either Triangle and Super Pro on all of my main playing shafts and I love 'em! I've been told that I might like WB too... I'll probably check those out soon.
