Guess it's true where there is a will there is a way. After seeing Lee's Hi-tech shop, it's kinda embarrasing to show what I build a stick on, but I have spent less than $200 modifing tools I already had to do it.

Modified a 20" china made lathe to hold a 36" piece with part of a KW frame rail and some I beams I had laying around.

Not to bad to make Ragu cues on!

....the mother of invention

Nice mods Larry. I'm just curious about one thing. Extending the bed is one thing, but it doesn't appear that you have the carriage travel to cut the full length of the cue. Did you extend the lead screw as well? It's hard to make out in the first picture.

I do everything the hard way. I can only work on 20" at a time. Then I turn the part around and finish. Not exactly something you would want in a production shop. I started out just to see if I could make a cue for myself. I always like to say " I did it myself".Then my brother wanted one. Then a good friend wanted one. Then my daughter wanted one. Now I have people who I don't even know want one. I used to paint cars in my spare time and gave that up so I could have some spare time. Looks like cue building is the samething.

Very ingenious!

Now that's something I never would have thought of doing:thumbup:

Who says you can't use a short lathe to make a pool cue:D

Well since this is shop pictures and I have showed yall my junk, guess I will show the rest of my shop.

Here's my cnc taperer project.
I just received the slide.
I'm drawing the mounting plates tonite .
Both are ball screw driven and have covers.
They are so smooth you can push them by hand with little effort.
Both are THK brank and cost about 3K combined if bought from a store.

I like people share photos of your store, where our creations are born, but always missing photos of coated and finished area (spray booths...)

I love the set up you have there. It is very well organized. But be prepared to mess up some cues or fingers if you leave that TV running while working.
It reminds me of what my little league baseball coach told me: Never take your eye off of the ball.

But Chris, don't you recognize the image on the screen? I believe it is your "Advanced Points and Inlays" vid. Surely you can't mess up with a "how-to" playing in the background? (Love the idea, but yeah.. keep your eyes on the ball)!

you missed something

well, we sort of watch chris a little bit, then try it ourself....screw up, then go back and try it again..Cant you guys remember when you 1st started out? You missed chris's cue building book by the tv...
How about my card board taper machine....LOL:D
I was gonna make a short video of my shop...( i might still make one) Like me riding up on my 4 wheeler with my sunglasses on, then touring my shop with my right hand man corey...."Right Corey" "I don't advocate doing that, BUT, I'm Going to do it anyway"
That was an inside Joke...Some might get the connection!!!!
