Jason, I do like your system out there in Arizona. I'm quite envious of it in fact since my area is deader than Elvis. It's a shame that immoral a$$es like Mike occassionally slip through with success to the demise of the locals. At least, thanks to you, he's now been outted and hopefully won't be able to get away with the same move again.

Hmmmm, Arizona...cool scenery...good pool scene...I'm gettin' layed off come October 3rd...know of any available jobs out there? :thumbup:

what kind of work you lookin for? we have it pretty good in az. i am trying to keep it that way. we have more pool tournys than that guy mike has chins.

What you can't see behind this POS is the sign behind him actually says, "Welcome to Sweet Tooth Billiards! We are open till 7 a.m. everyday and cater to both pool and poker players alike. We have added $3500 to weekly tournaments in the month of July alone."

The trash bag full of pudding is exactly what it looked like, now I have to throw up again.

lmao one mo time in honor of TSP

Jason,

This is definately NOT the "Little Mikey" I know from PA. At first look, I thought it might be Will "Cecil" Paye (Payton) et al. His eyes are way too normal appearing. Cecil's go in two different directions and no inch thick glasses.

Lyn

yeah when you said little i knew we werent talking bout the same guy lol

we normally make em play as a "10" but he fooled a nice person trying to be fair with what he saw. its not hard to fool someone into rating you low.

I'm not familiar with the way AZ works but there should be a system in place to make sure no one is "fooled" into anything. Most places I know would start everyone (with the exception of known players/pros) in the middle of the field (5) with the explanation that their handicap would be changed accordingly, at any time during the tournament if the TD deemed the person to be a stronger or weaker player.

This guy is like many out there - a POS for stealing by working the system but whoever is responsible for rating him and then allowing him to play that well, for that long without bumping him up should be getting a lot of the blame here.

crawfish will have to get a bigger blade. it wasnt the guy who rated him's fault. we cant just kick people out of tourny at the first thought of sand bagging. we would have no players left. the room owner has added 3500 just to weekly tourny's in july so it's not like he pulled a major heist. i do second the vote to get the crawfish in az though!!!!

It WAS the rater's fault. There would have to be no 'kicking out', you just rate people high to start out and if they want to donate their way down, they go for it week by week.

there are plenty of cliches that are applicable:
Management by objective;
Garbage in, Garbage out;

I'm confused on whether they're saying he was underated and that was reason he easily won, (handicapped tourn?) or that he shouldn't have been allowed in this tourny at his true speed at all since he mowed through them all with ease.

The system of ratings are defined here: www.azpoolscene.com/Ratings.aspx

Most tournaments rate a player at the top rating of that tournament and will adjust as they play. Other ways to get rated are to go into a supporting room that has a member on the committtee. Usually players are still rated on the high side. It's not uncommon to have a new player play in the tournament and then get bumped up a rating mid tournament, or even given their entry back and told they are too good for this tournament.

The way this POS worked the system will not happen again. He went to a small bar and laid down trying to get rated lower. The Committee Member did the right thing in saying, sorry I can't rate you on your 2 matches. Some people you can do this, but he didn't feel comfortable as it was suspicious. Roger stepped up and rated this player at another room, although Roger is not part of the rating committee. He knows a lot about the game and is a good judge of skills. The player got rated really low based on a Statistical based system and the entire committtee has it's doubts about this time of rating.

Thanks for the support of the pool community, and with multiple forums, text messages, emails, etc. We were able to spread these guys pictures all over town.

he layed down to get his rating. he won tourny and we raised him and he showed more of his true speed. he then dumped the finals to steal the calcutta money because his friend had all of himself in the calcutta.he didnt have himself because a regular watched him practice and knew that it was gonna be a robbery so he outbid him. which part dont you get again?

I understand everything until this part. That's okay though, you all seem pretty upset about this guy :angry: I was just looking for some clarification.

At Kolby's we have people who come in like Gene did, he was automatically a 10 and raised up after he showed he played stronger. As for players who come in and say they are a 6 and we cant find them in the book we let them know we will raise if they are playing above that based on player input and a watchful eye. :cool:

Jason-

Dude after seeing this douche bags' face I think I've seen him before. I'm not sure but when I was there in June I played at Metro Sportz on friday night in the 8's and under 8-ball. There was this big guy that came up to Jaz and said he hadn't been in AZ for years but he remembers being like a 6. Jaz asked him his name and found him in the book as a 9. He said that wasn't him and he'll play as an 8. Jaz said your in the book as a 9 you're rated too high for this tournament. He said it was someone else with the same name. Then he started with the obsenities. Called Jaz a f-ing idiot. And demanded to talk to the manager. Jaz went and got the manager and he basically said whatever Jaz says goes. Then he told Jaz he'd spot everyone a game and still win. After that Jaz said well then you're definatly not playing - see ya.

I'm not positave it's the same guy. I told my buddy to go check it out he'll remember. If it was the guys a total doucher!

I have read a bit about the Arizona rating system via AZ Poolscene and I think it works out very well for the most part. What I'd like to know is who the GENIUS is that let this lowdown scumsuckin' hustla wannabe beznitch get rated as a 5 in the first place. Yeah, he got bumped to a 6 after sucking a few hundred out of your local scene, but it is still far beneath his apparent skill level. Therefore....

I'm nominating ol' Mike McCune to the "Needin' a stabbin'" club, along with the initial rater who let Mr. Runout in as a 5! Crawfish, send 'em the blade! :D Death to the sandbaggers of the world!

I am the "GENIUS" in question.

Roger

I have to say. If being underranked is frowned upon this bad, how can you guys lift up people that lay down for a month to take off $20,000? Hell, I'd better not mention some of the lay down stuff we have done in the past.

Roger!!!

Your a knowledgable instructor Roger and an intelligent man from what I've gathered by your previous posts, so I guess this guy must have layed it down pretty good to get by you. That's a shame that he couldn't have been exposed for what he was before now though. I know it's hard to catch all the creeps, but at least he won't be welcomed back in... for ice cream or pool! :thumbup:

Laying down to hustle a guy later is one thing but laying down to play in a six and under tournament is just plain lame! I could see if this guy was not showing his full speed so that he could break some guy for a few bucks. That's the fault of the person being hustled he should have seen that the guy was stalling. But when you fool one person into rating you low and then you make the whole tournament suffer and on top of taht lay down in the finals to make more $ off the calcutta. I'm sorry but that's a bunch of bullshenanigans!!!!!
