American World Straight Pool Champion 2009?

i'm with ya on this one !

Lou...I think that's pretty unfair. Max is an expert player, a killer competitor, a good instructor, and very personable too. So what if he doesn't post here much? John Schmidt doesn't post much, if at all, about shooting tips, etc...and he came on here looking for sponsorship (and found it). Sarah Rousey is the same way (and I supported her trip to the far east)! I say more power to Max, and I hope he gets a chance to play in NJ, later this month. Many times, on this site, the posters have joined together, and sent players to major tournaments. It's not easy to be a pro, asking for help from strangers! I'm "in" for $50, Max...anybody else?

GO Max!

gotta agree with ya here scott. the guy is just trying to get in and LOU wantsta disect him for credability. wow!
fyi everyone, i looked at lou's profile and guess what. no friends not even cocobolacowboy has befriended him. go figure!
go max ! hope ya get there.

I can't get behind someone who just wants a free ride with no offer to let the generous backer in on some of the winnings.

Why would this be an exception to the standard backing principles?

Eric...I don't know if Max was looking for a 'sponsor' or a 'backer'. Personally, I don't care.

You missed the point.

There seems to be a lil discrepancy if Max was asking for a sponsor, with no expectations on cutting up the winnings, or a backer. Several ppl weren't sure.

I'm sure some people might be willing to donate, then again, there might be others that would want to be part of a corporation to be "in" with Max.

I don't think this is fair. In my opinion, Lou's point is a legitimate one to at least be discussed. If a player wants a backer, his past relationship to this board plays little role. But just a sponsor? I would say that is worthy of discussion. It's nothing against Max personally, at least in my case. And since it's as yet unclear which of these Max was soliciting, it's hard to even speak to this specific example yet. So I look at it as more of a general discussion.

As to the friends thing, I have like 3. I guess I'm useless too lol.

I want to help, but my reading comprehension is a lil lax on the phone screen...

I was thinking he needed $600 and I was in for $100.

Also, I would prefer to take a piece over making a donation, though I did not hear that opyion from Max.

Hopefully we will get some clarification on the issues raised thus far.

I am still in and will do the admin work, but gotta cap my financial contribution @ $100.

6 hunny is just the entry fee.

Max would certainly serve himself better in being part of this community.

Eric...I didn't miss the point. I just said I didn't care either way, for me personally. Like Steve Lipsky just said, if Max is looking for a backer, then his participation here probably doesn't matter too much. I just got off the phone with Max (for some reason he can't post, and is trying to get Mike to fix it right now). Max is certainly willing to have people go together (as Black-Balled suggested), and pool resources, as a 'group backer'. He would then share any winnings back to the group. He is sitting down right now, and penciling out exactly what his expenses will likely be, and either post them here, or get back to me, and I'll post them (I'm thinking that, entry fee, r/t airfare, hotel and food will run somewhere around $1500). I have no problem with Black-Balled spearheading this thing...as long as it's okay with Max. But, let's get this thing going, NOW! :D

BTW...for anyone interested, Max is currently visiting his folks, in Bonners Ferry, ID. He's been doing some lessons in MT, and is willing to work with folks in ID or WA, since he's in the region now. If you're looking for a top player to advance your game, and you're in the Pacific Northwest, here's a good opportunity. His cell # is listed in the first post here.

I agree with you Corey. Maybe this will be a catalyst that will spur Max to participate more here with us! He's certainly got lots of knowledge, stories, etc. to share! :D One thing to remember...Max, like most pros, doesn't have a salaried job (like you do), and therefore likely spends a lot of time working on (and worrying about) paying basic living expenses. That perhaps doesn't leave much time to spend on internet forums.

Sponsor

"With a sponsor, I could play this time around and give America an even better shot at taking this title...does anyone out there care?"

Max quoted Sponsor. Not backer, stakehorse..etc.....

A Sponsor to a Pro is someone who gives them "stuff" (money, equipment, pays expenses..etc..) in exchange for an endorsement of some type. In most cases this would be a billiards related business or manufacturer. The endorsement is usually obtained through use of the Sponsor's equipment, appearances, apparel...etc....

If there are some businesses on here looking for a spokesperson, this may be a good opportunity.

That is how I interpret the post.
I wish him luck,
Dom

I believe this thread is going from wishing for a sponser (best case scenario) to settling for a backer. (More realistic)

well you're right. i thuoght i was to be a backer he was looking for. this is yet to be determined.
useless in no way sir . i know you and we played a few years back in a joss event in glens falls. we both played very bad on those springy gandy's he usta have. he did get around to upgrading to gold crowns, but i think he went under. too bad.
i enjoyed watching you in the 14.1 event online and i wish you all the luck you can get in the world's. gary

Crazy

I myself wouldnt wont give to anyone who hasnt contributed to this forum period. It makes sense to suppourt John and Sarah as they have both posted several times. And have also added there insight here and there. So just to make sure I have this right. He sees no point in being active in the forums and posting here other than to one day ask for money. CRAZY!

I think that the amount of "e-friends" on some internet list has no bearing on a person.

that is so true sweets. i don't have that many myself and really don't want many as most of them treat people rudely ! maybe that is why max has stayed away from being involved here. :sorry:

Assuming that you are starting a list, please put me down for $300 (sponsor or backer - either way)

Does anyone know Kevin from the 14.1 league. They are listed as a contributor to the AZB "Pro Player Travel Fund". We might want to enlist his help ?? kbvidal@net1plus.com 413-743-7116

I'm waiting for a reply from Max as to whether it's sponsor or backer as well as his estimated costs and expected split. I will consider staking it pending the numbers.

I typed the post below before I finished reading the thread (always read the whole thread before posting, which I did) and while it has since been addressed, I'm still compelled to put my .02 in on this because I'm shocked that people would lend any creedence to this silly friends/popularity list.

fyi everyone, i looked at lou's profile and guess what. no friends not even cocobolacowboy has befriended him. go figure!

Some people don't even know about the friends thing, and most of us couldn't care less. It promotes childish, high school popularity contests that are rigged with inflated numbers. The only number on here that anyone should be lending any creedence to is the itrader. The others - Rep, friends list - is a farce.

I have one friend because that person sent me a request. I obliged out of common courtesy but I assure you it has no bearing as to what kind of person I am. It simply means that I don't give a rats arse about a silly, childish friends list and neither should anyone else.

Max wants to make this a "backer" arrangement

Corvette...and EVERYBODY ELSE...In post #25, I said I had just spoken with Max, and he's all for us forming a 'backer group', to help him get to the tournament, and is perfectly willing to share his winnings! This is settled, and now we can get on with raising the $$$! So far, it looks like we have about $450 committed...almost 1/3 of the way there!

Not sure if any of you know that Max is a SUUUPER GIFFFFTED artist....

Hey Max, can you send me something to hang up in my basement for a $100 donation? I know your stuff is thousands, but a little something that looks cool and signed by you would be well worth the donation.

Regards,
Dave

EDIT: Just read you guys are setting up a backer-group. My donation stands to Max for a little art to hang up--- if not, count my C towards the backer kitty.

storke...Nothing against JS or SR (I like and respect them both), but I have yet to see a post where John has contributed anything about stroke, pattern play, or anything about playing or learning to play. Max has posted here before...not much, but he has posted. Compare apples to apples. If you don't want to participate, fine...but don't spoil it for those of us that do!
