how long to heal after surgery?

I was just wondering how many AZers have had their gall bladders taken out, and how long it took them to get back to shooting pool. I gotta get mine cut out tomorrow, so Im just curious how long I should expect to be down. Thanks.

Really, you should ask your doctor not us. If it was Chuck Norris of course he'd be playing an hour or two later.

Something to think about......
 
I've seen people who just had thier gall bladder out and cruising the hallways shortly after. I have an ultra sound wed, kinda thinking I have a stone as well.

They found mine with a CT scan, but had me go get an ultra-sound to make sure. Im lucky it didnt pass somewhere else, lol. I didnt even know I had one! Let us know what you find out Terry.

It depends on what type of surgery. If its laparoscopic, which it should be, about 1 week. I had mine removed two years ago and was up puttin around the halls a few hours later. Don't let them cut you open, go somewhere that does laparoscopic.

I went back to work less than a week later. Of course I took it easy and was careful. After two weeks its full stem ahead. LOL At the time I was not playing but if I was I easily could have in 3 or 4 days.

Are you kidding? Chuck Norris wouldn't mess with a doctor or a hospital...he'd perform the operation himself..with a survival knife. :grin:

Seriously, better ask the surgeon...you don't want to open any wounds by pushing for too much too soon.
 
i had pancreatitis and the only way to fix me was by taking my gall bladder out. I had to stay in the hospital for 3 days b4 i had my operation. on the 4th day got my operation. on the 5th day i was home. and four days after my operation i played billiards not pool because i didnt have to strain myself. lol and on the 7th & 8th day i won the local 8 and 9 ball tournys.

now i aint saying that its going to go all that great for you but just play when your doc says your good. your gonna feel light headed when you go back into the room with all the smoke but youll get the hang of it again. g0od luck and welcome to the club :thumbup:
 
Well im groggy as hell, but the surgery went good. They say I can play again in a few days if there is no pain. Ive got 3 cuts about an inch long and thats allther was, but damn it does hurt a little. Thanks for all the info and well wishes.

Congrats Joe, but I still contend that you should not have swallowed that 8 ball and called it a gall stone :)
 
I had mine done laparoscopically on a Friday morning, and never skipped a beat. I was up and hanging out at home that afternoon. Went back to work the next Wednesday (actually took a day more than I wanted to just to play it safe).

Pool should be fine in 4-5 days. Your break shots are what will kill you. Be careful of those stitches in the stomach muscles. If you move in such a way that it stretches those, it can hurt a little. ;)

After a couple of weeks you'll feel pretty good, but there will still be tenderness at those stitches if you overdo it. In 3-4 weeks, you'll be good as new!

Oh quit whining, of course its going to hurt a little with additional holes!:D Ask if they will let you go out for a walk. If its ok it really does help to start moving. Course you'll have to push that pole around where ever you go. LOL They let me out late the next day so no matter you won't be in there very long.

Get well soon and you'll be up running racks in no time. Hey those bandages are something, mine stayed on several days except the one that had a leak. Yes you may start dripping.:D

LOL, I apologize for the whining, lol. I was only at the hospital for a few hours. It was an oupatient surgery, so I went home about an hour after the cuts. I am pleasantly surprised that it was so quick and easy. Thanks for the drip warning, lol.

My younger brother, (fellow AZer Chronos) had his gall bladder taken out late last year, and he and I went to play pool the next day.

I warned him to take it easy, and if he wanted to go home, we could. He kicked my ass that day, as I recall....:D :(

The kid DOES have some heart, though, apparently...:thumbup:
