What wrap for "this cue"???

I have this cue's twin being delivered in teh next couple weeks and it's time to pick the wrap.



Old school, Titleist house cue, or whatever they call them, Hoppe style, steel joint.

I am sold on leather, I've had it on my last couple cues and I'm a convert.

I am 99% sold on Black, and I have narrowed the choices to:

Tiger's new black elephant ear (probably the front runner right now)

Old School Smooth I think it's called "Dull smooth Buffalo"

Tiger's Black Lizard

Tiger's Black Croc (least fav, but who knows...)

If white with green speck irish linen is out of the cards, then I'd opt for a garment smooth black leather or smooth black kangaroo hide....nothing brown imho....not on this classic of a style.
 
You should base your decision on what you like the feel of best, for me Elephant Ear is a little too rough so I like shiny lizard better. Just my 02 cents worth.

I gotta agree with Monto and the Cueaddicts. The old school wrap is best IMO.

Based on the options you listed, the smooth black leather would be second...but only because over time, it will wear, fade and look old too. Old school isn't usually pretty, matching or perfect.

Too bad the wraps can't talk, yours has some personality for sure
 
Green and white linen or smooth black leather. Old school is the way to go IMO.

I'd go with stack leather or kangaroo. after i got to hit some balls with DJkey's cues i've become a huge fan of kangaroo
 
Matte black veg tanned kangaroo...expertly installed of course!

A cognac lizard would look super killer on that cue. It would remind me a couple of Cantando hope's I've seen before.
 
I'd go with white with green spec linen. Or cortland if you can find it.

What do you mean by 'this cues twin'? Is this a bushka that another forum member posted?

Yes, the PIC is pilfered from another thread. Mine is NOT a bushka, but started life as a 26 1/2 Hoppe House cue, whatever the technical term is.

The sticker dates it to the 40's. It is done and being painted and wrapped this week. The only difference is mine will have silver rings in the black joint rings, so I can mix and match shafts from all my cues. Classic and simple.

I have tried to lay my hands on some courtland, but I can't swing $100 + install.

If Cortland is what you really want instead of leather, then $100 plus install would only be a little more than having the leather wrap put on and it would be less than having a Lizard wrap put on.

I have the leather, and the labor to install it has "already been paid for" so long as I supply the material. So the difference is $100+ if I go another way.
