Ok, I know there are 15,923 posts using the term MOORI, and probably another 40-50 threads.

What I wanna know is which MOORI should I try.

I like the hit of a hard Le Pro, but I don't want it to glaze over.

I like the few SNIPERS I have test hit, but I have heard too many times that they shred and don't last.

I want a firm hit, but not one that will miscue all the time.

I am GUESSING I should try a MOORI medium.

Any hints or help???

if you want a tip that WON'T glaze over you should stay away from moori's. the new ones glaze over a lot
 
I had a Moori III Quick tip in my bag of tips and decided to give it a whirl. I started out with three and gave two away a few months ago and put it on one my shafts recently. I like the way it plays! I get good spin and control with it, but I do not like the way it holds chalk. I have to force myself to apply chalk on every shot or risk the dreaded miscue. The chalk seem to vanish quickly after striking the cue ball and the tip even looks like it is glazed, but it isnt. It just gets shiny after the chalk falls off the tip and requires more chalk.


As soon as I can get to the Post Office (tomorrow) to pick up my shipment of Talisman WB tips is when the Moori hits the round file. The Talisman WB is currently my favorite tip, but they are hard to get.

i like the normal talisman's myself. you're right about the moori's though. the old moori's almost didn't need chalk but the new ones need to be chalked every shot.

It's not necessarily a case of mechanics. Miscues are caused by making contact with the cue ball too far away from center. As long as you don't contact beyond half the distance between the center and the edge of the cue ball, you won't miscue. I've watched players shoot with a phonelic tip and never miscue. It's all about the point of contact on the cue ball.

sure it is. it has nothing to do with moori's glazing over. i guess that doesn't even matter
 
I don't have any problems with the moori med which comes stock on the McDermott I 2 shaft. Scuff before use and it's good to go.

You might try an everest medium or the tiger medium, both are good, I prefer the everest

I guess I have just been unlucky with Moori's. Never had one I really liked. Best tips for me were always those one in a hundred LePro's or Triangles that just seemed to hit perfect. Problem is finding one among all the bad ones.

I bought a cue last year with a sniper on it and really liked it. Since then I have had several installed on other cues and had great luck with them. I don't play much anymore but when I do I haven't noticed any issues about miscues with the ones I have.

Most all the Moori's I have hit with lately (friends putting them on mostly) have just hit waaaay too hard for me regardless of the speed they are supposed to be. The last medium I hit felt like a water buffalo tip.

All else fails get a LePro or Triangle, cut half of it off, play till it mushrooms , trim it and then you have a great tip. If you get a good one. If not, rinse repeat. LOL

My Sniper tips (3 shafts) were put on 2 years ago. There's plenty left and no problems.

There's some techniques to installing them different than most. Water and a new blade using a lathe will give you great results.

Moori's simply aren't what they used to be IMO. I used to love them but after putting on next generation Mooris 5 years ago I experience more miscues than ever before. I still own some Meds that will never see action.
 
IMHO Tiger Layered Tip are better than Morri, but if you have to have a Morri try the HARDER ONE, that is what I swithch off of to a Tiger Hard.

Thank you for correcting me.

I was trying to express an interest in a "forgiving" hit, firm like a hard tip, but without the enhanced miscue % of a hard, glazed over tip.

It sounds like I may be barking up the wrong tree with a Moori.

I'd go with the Sniper's..... I tried moori's off and on for a while and it was hit or miss if it was a good tip..... It was like at first they were great but if you scuffed them up, they wouldnt hold chalk at all, or glaze over after a game or two.....

So after doing the rounds with Le-pro and Triumph and Triangles, I tried a Sniper on my old Gilbert and loved it!!!!!!!

But when i sold my gilbert and bought a new cue, i got a I-3 McDermott shaft with the moori hard, which actually played pretty good for the first month, but then just would hold chalk or anything no matter how much i scuffed it up, so I then put a Tiger Soft on the shaft and it's been on there for about 2 yrs now....

Tiger does make good Tips so give them a try.....

I recently tried a Kamui medium and I like it a great deal. The medium does seem to be a little more firm than most tips medium speed.

I have never had a problem with Triangles but I hear what you're saying about the Le Pros. No matter which 'new' tips I try I usually wind up going back to a triangle. I do however like the Kamui SS I have on my Jim Buss.
 
I'm no instructor... and hell, I don't even know what I'm talking about other than what I've personally experienced... and that is...

I was going to go with a Moori MED.... but I also heard about Mooris hardening up ... , so...... I decided to go with a Moori Soft two months ago... now it plays like a medium... which is what I was looking for. I really like this tip.

I used to shoot with the McDermott I-2 also and liked it a lot. Then a super deal appeared on this site for a used I-3. That shaft comes with the Soft Moori. Boy, that's the ticket for me. Really had cue ball control. And the 11.75mm tip diameter gives the feel of geometric precision. I very rarely ever miscue so I didn't notice any difference between the soft and the medium tips. I have not experience any glazing over or mushrooming with the Moori. Just recently sent the shaft to McDermott for warranty cleaning, sealing and a new soft Moori tip at no charge. I only paid about $25 for shipping and handling. If you want a great cue, at a very modest price, McDermott's are hard to beat.
