Ronnie Alcano's classless move !

People thought JA pulled a move on Ronnie Wiseman when Wiseman was about to shoot - anyway - the Euros tap places for the balls and rack by hand - there does not seem to be any complaints - I spoke to one at the world 14.1 at Comet for his opinion and he said there are not any problems -

Anybody that would wear that leopard print glove as a "lucky glove" is either a manly man and not worried about it or gay and proud of it! I think RA has a herd of kids so . . .

Hu

Although Ronnie did once rip me a new a$$ in an 8 ball event in Shanghai I'm pretty sure he's not gay

Hey he just mite like Leopard print , just remember he does get his nails done . And personaly I don't think he's gay at all because I worked with a guy that got his nails done and he was streight as an arrow plus he was a pretty boy and loved the ladys almost like a pimp but not .

Troy with your post, you assume a few things right off.

1. JA is a push over and would let another player bully him......NOT A CHANCE! the guy is a multi time world champ, triple smart player, and long time road dog.....come on, really?.

2. The ref, and or tourny director didn't have control of the match.....didn't look that way to me, and I heard no other issues with match problems during the week. BTW in the players meeting they said the opponent could inspect the rack, AND the match didn't start yet.

3. RA is some kind of bully, or needed to cheat in some fashion to win.......again....NOT, and thats a pretty strong accusation from you. I have never heard of any antics by RA.

4. The audience was stupid.......I'm sure JA had as many fans AND Pro fans sitting near by as RA.....if there was an issue IMO someone would have chimed in.

I rarely get into the sh*t here, but your post sounds like you lost a bet and are looking for a little revenge by smearing the name of a World Champ.

no need for a list of a,b ,c & d's..From the live stream it looked a lil out of line period//I thought I stated that I had bet the other way ? hmmm

That I'll agree with!

Not having sound or seeing what had went on before my jaw almost dropped when Ronnie raked the entire rack. I'd be tempted to knock somebody ass over teakettle for doing that if I was racking and it was rack your own. What we saw over the internet looked like total BS.

Without re-watching it, that's what I remember. It should have been a loss of game penalty imo.

there was more to the story

It seems there was more to the story. Somebody on the scene said that they actually timed Johnny at taking over seven minutes trying to rack. It seems the ref and Johnny welcomed the assistance. I was very surprised when neither the ref or Johnny landed on Ronnie like a ton of bricks but apparently his assistance was welcome in this case.

Speaking of cases, I think I'm going to get some of the center dots to put in my case for just such occasions. I favor just an ink dot on the felt but when the felt or original spot is damaged a new spot might help matters. I am sure we have all had to deal with racks that couldn't be racked exactly on the center of the spot or the one ball would roll.

Better take some kind of adhesive with you should you ever need to put a spot on a table. Most of the "stick-on" spots that I have used have an inferior glue on them. Coupled with the fact that most tables have a fair amount of chalk/talc dispersed into the cloth, this makes for an even tougher time getting the spots to stay put. I personally use a spray-on contact adhesive and lightly apply to the back of the spot before attempting to put it on the table. I guess you could keep a can in your vehicle.

FWIW, a fine tip Sharpie and a dime works well too!!!

Let me reiterate what I saw in person.

Johnny racked the balls. He was then getting ready to break. Alcano stepped up and said something about the rack looking off. He waved his hands over the balls to give it a shadow and saw that they weren't racked completely solid, or the one ball wasn't centered on the dot. Johnny struggled for several minutes trying to get the balls to become solid, with minimal success. Alcano stepped up and showed that, Hey, " I can get the one centered on the dot". So Johnny still had troubles racking and then gestured a shoulder shrug and a I don't know look at Alcano. Alcano, proceeded to try to rack himself just to prove that the balls could be racked successfully. He succeeded and pointed it out. Then Johnny reracked the balls and got it, then he broke and didn't make a ball.

Johnny looked at Alcano and pretty much gestured that Alcano could try to fix it....and he did....It wasn't sharking because of that at all. I don't think Alcano ever intended to touch the rack at all, until Johnny gave him the go ahead.

My only issue was Alcano being as picky about that rack as he was. I thought that was in bad taste.

And to the comment about Archer fans not being in the crowd. There definitely was a lot of fans there (me included). Only one guy I heard mumble, quit being so damn picky.

This is 100% what happened. I saw it in person.

Racking in First Game

I was there as well.

Johnny Archer was taking some time to rack and re-rack while attempting to get the rack tight and in place. This was after the match started late. I do not think Johnny was deliberately taking too long racking to shark Ronnie, but wanted a tight rack for his break.

Ronnie pointed toward the rack and mentioned something, but also quickly mentioned the concern to the referee. It is not like he and Johnny were going at it without the referee involved quickly from the start and the referee was in a position of control if anything got out of hand or was inappropriate. Ronnie did talk to both the referee and Johnny before he touched the Racked balls.

What Ronnie did that was odd, was roll most of the rack back with his hands and placed the cue ball directly in the center of the spot. He seemed to be indicating to Johnny where the center of the spot was. (LOL - Like Johnny did not know )

The Referee took a hankerchief and tried to smooth out the spot.

Call it sharking or not, but I think the problem was with the table and spot conditions allowing a tight rack.

observation recall

No offense, but Johnny has many moves that the majority of ducks can't pick up and TD's ignore. If a man pretends to have trouble racking the balls and the other man gets up and racks them with no trouble-guess what? You think that picking at the table all the time is a move? How'd you like to sweat that for your money.

I was not there so only saw the stream and listened to Joey and Nick if I remember correctly. At any rate, when Ron moved the balls, both announcers exclaimed that that was not allowed and was told to the players before hand that the non-racker could inspect the rack and complain they were not allowed to touch any ball however. The announcers said that Ron had just committed a foul and were wondering what kind of penalty was forth coming. At least that is what I remember with out going back and watching over again.

That's correct and they made a point to mention it was brought up at the players meeting. That's probably why so much was made of the whole ordeal...

sharking

I haven't really played in 20 + years but I do believe that if something like this disturbs your mind set so much that you can't play up to your own level then you should have not played at all. It is a game to be played and enjoyed. Pool isn't like golf where everyone already knows you are not suppose to talk or anything. Look at all that goes on in a poolroom while you play. Now Earl gets mad at everyone and someone thinks Johnny was sharked because of the racking. Give me a break they are suppose to be pros play your game and shut up. If you hit them right you win and if you don't you lose. That is the way it is suppose to be. Don't blame it on someone else because your guy lost. I did not care who won in the match I just enjoyed it except Johnny being soooo Slooooow.

A top-pro player in an 8-ball match. He plays at about .950 at accu-stats in this match where he has 4 consecutive break & runs, wins the match 7-2 and is on the table the majority of the time.

Of course he seldom misses, but still the match lasted for more than 2 hours. INSANE.

THAT can get into the other players head more than anything else...

I can't believe that they didn't use a shot-clock... Unbelievable...

Johnny Archer is a stand-up guy, funny, plays great pool, well deserving of being a HOF now, but he is so incredible BORING TO WATCH. I can't stand it. I hate watching him play.

I will rather watch women playing soccer than watch Archer play pool...

Roy,

I would rather watch Johnny Archer play than watch Ralph Soquet. But not by much.

I did watch the beginning of the Archer Alcano match and was amazed when Ronnie just pushed the balls back.

IMO it wasn't a move. Words were exchanged that only RA JA and the Ref will know for sure. Until those words are know, it is just conjecture on everyone's part.

I think way too much has been made of this. But, then again, it is just IMO.

I almost agree with you :D

I prefer Ralf, but not by much. I have said many times on this forum that I love watching Ralf play when there is a shot-clock involved, and that I can't stand watching him play without a shot-clock...
