Kevin Varney's cue construction Pictures

Banned
Here's pictures of the great construction job of the cues of the great " Kevin Varney"

This cue fell over at the pool hall and hit a chair. It broke at the forearm/handle joint. I was so mad after seeing how this P.O.S was put together that when I got home I took the butt sleeve section off. Low and behold. Flat faced and just a 3/8-10 screw holding it together..

This is just icing on the cake...

Has anyone actually contacted the Mods and asked why he isn't banned? maybe we should start a thread in the main section addressed to the mods and keep bumping it till we get an explaination.

Maybe you should just contact him instaed of throwing him under the bus why ask to ban him cause a cue broke? It looks like it would take a little more then falling off a chair to do that .id contact him first that would be the right thing to do.

Varney " The Cue Assembler"

Contact him... Are you kidding... Have you read the last 1,000,000 posts about Varney.
I'm guessing this is ok to build cues this way. Do you build your cues this way.

Maybe he made it to where you can break it down and put it in your back pocket. That way you wouldn't need to buy a new case for it. JK LOL

Thank you Lee, but save your breath. I really don't see the problem here to be honest. I missed the mandatory construction meeting. Cut up some more Varney's...you'll find some other crazy stuff too...I promise. Back before I built cues I was a cue fan & owned way too many...I learned what hit good & played good to me & developed a taste. Two cues not really meant to be "players" were the jump breaks by Gilbert & Howard. Both attached flat face at the A joint & play exceptional. I've tried every way possible to join a cue...and some that aren't possible...I assure you. Cuemakers really like the flatface hit and many are using that as their main joint...and everyone knows about how good it hits. The trick is to make it feel like a 1pc. So why not expand that a tad. Flat face the A joint & see how it hits. Too me the tenon method leaves to much to go wrong as in poor glued area or air pocket....and be easier to create an odd buzz. The flatface keeps it simple. Notice no air pockets in your pic. I've tried every senario...long pin for strength....shorter pin for hit so the metal doesn't break it up...G10 joint...its endless if you have the time. While I now do use a longer screw in the A joint....there was nothing wrong with the one in the pic & it would not of broken under normal use. Break a few more...you find lots & lots of experimental work...you'll find A joints made of tenons, wood screws, threaded G10, pins insulated by ABS & phenolic, radial pin connectors...trust me, I've used them all.
Are you even aware of some of the other cuemakers who use that very joint & have in the past? You may be shocked. You build yours your way & I'll build mine my way. When I get it perfect I'll let you know. Until then there may very well be some more experimentation as well.
Now Mr. Hoppefan...I have no clue who you are nor did you purchase that cue from me. And you've also tried your best attempt to ruin me here. While I have many friends & happy customers here on AZ...a few AZ'ers really amaze me. Did you ever even attempt to contact me before this thread? No. I will do this though...send me the cue & shaft back...and I'll replace it...no charge. Try not to break the next one in half.

Varney

OH NO.. I have revealed the "Varney" best hit in the wrold secret.
Are you kidding. Send it back to you. I think you chances are done here.

You revealed nothing...other than a bit about yourself. I'd wager some other cue makers may pass on you in the future. I good heartedly offered to make it right, even after you bash me. You refused...your choice. Sorry you feel that way.

Cue makers or cue assemblers? There is a big difference. Obviously you don't know that.

didn't you just get finished trying to bash that QP guy about a week ago.i think you kind of asked for this thread.

Not in any fashion whatsoever. You need to reread. Check my words. I merely showed one of his cues that had been hacked on a "previous refinish"...not by the original maker. I don't believe ANY maker would install 2 leather wraps together on one of their own cues.

I don't know about that..... the 2 cues in my avatar might disagree with your thoughts and methods on cue making..... This guy don't know his azz from a hole in the wall.

That's how I read the referenced thread (@ a cue Efren Reyes may have used, it's in this cue gallery forum). Actually, by Kevin starting that thread, it may end up unveiling some very shady crap. If another thief gets exposed, that's a good thing in my book. Kevin, have you made contact with Olive? (btw, good of you to offer to fix the cue in question here)

Regardless of the Kevin "this" and Kevin "that" stuff here.

The fact that the OP attacked Kevin without giving him the chance to make good speaks volumes about this guy.

He bought a cue second hand and Kevin offered to make good on it.

The guy refused and just keeps on bashing.

That's just rediculous.........

Russ
