Maybe Jonny iz done with the B.S. stories N iz trying to improve his game by playing 4 real? :confused::rolleyes:
 
Challenges of this type have trouble written all over them.

I have heard dozens of different discriptions of what a "B" player actually is.......

I consider myself a B player, but most everyone I play with would describe me as an "A" player. Ive strung up 4-5packs of nine ball on a Diamond BB on several occasions. If you make a ball on the break.and have a shot on the one, you damn well better get out on a BB.

While im sure he is just trying to find an even game, the sets are going to end up like this:

If Johnnyt wins, then his opponent will accuse him of being an "A" player and lying about his ability.

If Johnnyt loses, he will accuse his opponent of being an "A" player and lying about his ability.

This is disaster just waiting to happen.

Howdy from Orlando.

I'm an "APA 7" in 8-ball, and just made "SL 8" in 9-ball. That's verifiable, not bragging or sandbagging.

I don't know where that puts us, but I am guessing it's in the ball park.

I've never played any serious sets on a bar table, only some horsing around $5-10 a game.

Like everyone else these days, I don't have cash to spray all over the pool scene, but I am looking for experience and battles instead of stealing like most folks.

If you think we're close enough to make a fair game, I'm happy to try.

I play at Clicks North on a league, and at Corner Pocket on Mondays. Both those have 9'ers.

Decent bar tables are harder to come by. I know of a place in Cassleberry that will open up the bar tables, I think it's Wednesday or Thursday night for free pool.

Anyway, lemme know...

I have NEVER put up a 4 or 5 on a BB, like I said, never played more than a few $5 or $10 games on a BB. I play mostly on 8' (League 8-ball) or 9' tables (practice when I can and local tournaments).

As stated, my "skill level" according to APA is demonstrable and consistent. If I were a 7/9, well I'm topping out, so there's no telling how good I might be. But being a shade under that, there's definitely room above me.

I agree with you, the "rating system" for players is too subjective; even against the 9-ball ghost on a 4" pocketed 9' diamond is a world apart from even against the ghost on a 5.5" pocketed bar bucket, but for now, it's what we got.

In another thread (one I started BTW:confused:) I noticed JohhnyT said he was playing the ghost even WITHOUT BIH on his BB, and if that's the case, that's pretty frickin' strong in my book.

How outta line am I?

Thats about as honest as you can get.

I am also a 7 in APA 8 ball, and until about 4 months ago I was a 8 in APA 9 ball. I was raised to a 9.

I figure a good B player should be able to compete with the ghost on a good Diamond BB.

As far as 4-5 packs on a BB, it all comes down to the break and a little luck. Its not something I can do consistently, but ive done it a few times.


Like you said, rating is very subjective. At least with the APA handicap you have a measurable number to make a comparison. It doesnt start getting hazy again till you hit the 9 level.

Im a 9, but then again, so is Dan LaVoie (the owner of hammerheads,) and I wont get on the table with him without the 7, or 10-6/7 in 1-hole :grin-square: If i remember correctly Dan plays Richie Richieson and Ron Wiseman getting 10-8/7.


If Johnnyt's beating the ghost without ball in hand, thats awful effing strong...........

Johnnyt has a high run of 96 in straight pool this year. I have never heard of a B player running 96. That type of run is about 50 times harder than a 5 pack on a BB.

If he ran 96 in straight pool he is no B player.... no way, no how....

I ran 50 one time, although I do not play the game much.

Agreed, running 96 is a ton more difficult than a 5 pack on a BB.

Yeah, once they are rated the highest the system goes, it quit being accurate.

I am a GM in USPSA (Grand Master), pistol matches, and a competitive one. That's the top level, and makes me one of about 100 worldwide, and I should place at the top 20 of our nationals or the Worlds.

That's roughly like being a no-BS pro in pool. But I don't kid myself there are GM's I don't want none of, just like there are pros that have no interest in gambling heads up with the top ten guys.

There are layers above layers... you just run out of ways to measure them.

Yes I did run 96 on my 7' Valley when it had 4 3/4" corner pockets. I haven't run over 45 since then. Johnnyt
