Am I wrong????

So a week or two ago I was trying to buy a case. A guy that is supposed to be my friend sees me trying to get this case, and before I can finish the deal, he steps directly in front of me and buys it. I was pissed, and asked him about it, and he was very sorry, said he thought I wasnt goin to buy it, and I could have it for what I was trying to buy it for. Cool, its over, just a misunderstanding, heat of the moment type thing. So I keep trying to get it from him, and he keeps saying we will figure it out later. He fills it with his cues, and says nothing more about it. So I am pissed again. He asks why I am pissed (but he already knows why), and says that he told me something he didnt. He is just trying to smooth it over, I guess he was hoping Id forget about a cheap case. He also had an old cue that I wanted pretty bad, and he kept telling me he didnt want to sell it. Thats cool, I understand, then I find out that he made a secret deal and got rid of the cue. Hey, its his cue and he can sell it to whoever he wants, but we are supposed to be friends, good friends, but our friendship got trashed over a $50 case and an old cue. My thinking is, if he is willing to hose me on a cheap case, what will he do if I am trying to buy a higher priced cue? Maybe I am overreacting, but Ive been hosed by a lot of "friends", and its just not worth the fuss. So I ask you AZ, am I wrong for dropping this "friend" from my radar?

Joe
Either this person has a distorted view of friendship...or you overuse the word friend, and he never really was one to you.

Either way his actions are suspect. Consider how much this friendship is worth to you and act upon it. I would not let the cost of the items influence your judgement, it's the principle of the thing.

People have a choice, stick to their word, show that they truly have character and do what they say they will for no other reason than living up to their good name. When it comes time for you to make the choice, which way will you choose?

My word is all I really have, so I wont do anything to compromise it. I will also take it as a lesson learned. I made the right choice by dropping him from my short friends list. I cannot be friends with a guy like this, because in the back of my head, I will always wonder if he is trying to screw me.

Joe,

He's an absolute tool.....if I see my buddy trying to buy a case, it is absolutely off limits until he decides he doesn't want it....

If I offer to sell him a cue and he is interested, he gets first chance, even if someone else offers me more....

Friends come first, always.....this guys obviously doesn't value friendship....

AGREED! I wouldn't do this to BIG PERM, and I've never met him. I would however play him some on the golf course without strokes

Friends

someone told me that in a life time if you could count all your true friends on one hand your a very lucky and blessed person. he is not truly your friend he is a friendly aquaintance:grin-square:

LOL, I'll take 10+ strokes a side please....

You go out of your way to take care of your friends, plane and simple....if that guy did that to you, imagine if you were a guy he didn't know....you might have been stabbed for that case......or he might have just hired crawfish....

People are your friends when you cut them a deal, take care of them, give them options you would never give just anybody. Then they take you for granted, put you on the back burner when someone else has a better deal for them at the moment. They forget to be a man of their word, and act mightily offended when you grow sick of being jacked around and ask them to live up to their word. Then they try and use being offended by being asked to honor their agreement as a way to justify why they no longer have to live up to their word.

Yeah, this guy sounds like a douchebag. I can understand him stepping up and buying the case if he honestly thought you weren't going to but then he should at least follow through and sell it to you.

Are you sure this is a "friend" and not just someone that you are close to at the pool hall?
MULLY
why didn't the seller wait for your answer?

I'd of been pissed off...

now pm me and tell me who it is so I don't talk about any deals while they are there

and before I can finish the deal, he steps directly in front of me and buys it.
Joe

That shows no class at all. Zero, zilch, nada

Well my "friend" just did a cue deal with the seller of the case. I dont blame the seller, he did what most sellers would do, sell it for a higher price. As far as my "friend", he isnt even someone Im close with anymore, just another dude at the room, no more "friend" stuff between us.
