Whats a good begginer cue?

Want a fairly inexpensive but solid cue to relearn the game.

Personally I like Joss cues, and if you pay attention you can get a nice one under 200 used. They used to have some new for 200, don't know if they do or not anymore.

Lucasi's play pretty good too. More bling the adams GB series plays pretty well.

Rat cues from Muellers would be my personal second choice behind a joss, actually would be my first choice now. Ryan posts here as Rat Cues I believe.

Depending on your budget a Meucci or a Predator Sneaky pete would be a good fit.

IMHO a step above K Mart yet still in the low end price range is the PLAYERS Cue. I bought a new Players Sneaky Pete For $ 40.00 to keep in the Car for Bar Box banging and ended up playing with it pretty much full time. BTW I have several cues that I could sell for over $ 500.

PS. Shop around because the same Cue I bought for $ 40 I have seen selling for up to a $ 100. Production made Cues have a big mark up.

Lucasi sneaky pete

IMO, i'd get one of the 80-90$ players cues. I've always liked them.

Go to a tournament or pool room hit with all the cues you can in your price range. Best way to find the one.

As far as quality in that price point I like McDermott's but for $200 you may be able to find some decent used sneaky's on here made by decent cuemakers. The problem is picking out the good deals if you are unfamiliar with them.

I got a Viking plain jane for around $125, and a schmelke sneaky pete for $95. Happy with them both. And I'm basically a beginner.

i agree. for the money, a players cues are pretty nice.

Everyone has mentioned all the usual suspects, and even some I didn't think of.

Another idea would be to support your local cuemaker and get a sneaky pete from him.

well i see no one mentioned the cuetec r360. it is a totally new shaft design for them. not the old fiberglass coated stuff. very reasonable prices and more than a beginners cue but a cue that is used by allison fisher and shane van boening. i recommend you try one out before you purchase anything else. after i got one to satisfy my curiosity i liked it so much my predator that i have been using for 10 years is collecting dust !

Thanks for the conformation. Maybe I can buy them a little cheaper at $ 40.00 because there is a importer near my area. I see no reason to buy a fancy design since it adds nothing to the Play of the stick. My attitude is So What If it gets Messed Up or Stolen.

I got caught up in the Fancy stick and case thing when I first started playing leagues. I now have a case that costs more than most peoples cues. But it never made my game better. So now I use the el cheapo cheapo case that I can throw around. I hate the idea of having to watch my cues like a hawk or getting mad because it falls on the floor.

true true, I always told people just learning to play to go grab a players sneaky pete or a cue-tek earl strickland series for a bill. They can do whatever a beginner needs and then some, but they don't have to spend all the dollars. Hell you never know 6months down the road they might not even want to try to learn anymore and paid 600 for a meucci they cant sell for half that. When you get a little bit of speed under you step up to a better cue, learn to play better with a cheaper more economical cue and then when you progress go reward yourself with a better piece of equipment. But the RAT cues, dufferins etc are all pretty descent cues, even the keisers and J&J are all great priced and well suited for the wallet and a novice.

I knock the K mart $ 29.95 cue but know of a few people who use and like them. But the point is that any of the low priced sticks under a buck will do well. Don't let "keeping up with the Jones" get you.
