New Reality Show....HUSTLIN!!!!

Just had a great concept for a new reality show. A show based on the on goings in the pool room to the small tournaments and especially the BIG ones. What if you could watch two players work out a match.....Have railbirds talking junk about the players and having guys like Bucktooth being all loud and talking shit with hundreds of cecils being waved around like a spotlight!! :lol: i think it would be a huge hit!!!

The only problem i see with it is the big black eye that the pool world has been trying to heal from the dawn of the hustling age. Im sure people that have put in so much time and effort to clean up the image of pool would be offened by it but for me.....I wouldn't miss an episode and i would have them all on Blu-Ray!!!!

What do you think???

I think LOTS of pool players would watch this.

Then again, I'm not sure 'pool players' is a large enough deomgraphic to aim for when trying to pitch a concept like this to any network. It just won't fly.

I'd watch if the play was good enough. Medicore play + obnoxious woofing = wouldn't watch it!! Good play + some (less) obnoxious woofing = would probably tolerate it. Great play + no other sounds whatsoever = wouldn't miss it!!! I think you can tell what part has me as a viewer vs. what part loses me.

I remember watching Fats and Mosconi on TV as a kid, and thinking (even at the age), "will the fat guy just shut up and let his play do the talking!!".
 
That's where heavy editing comes into play. Good action shots of runouts and close up's of players getting heated by it. It wouldn't be like watching the best player that ever lived and that loud mouth fats (god bless his soul) but more like watching the drama or the TENSION of a rack for $1000 being played out!!!

People probably wouldn't believe that the money was real :lol:
 
I think it would be an entertaining show for sure and I would watch as would most pool players . I'm just not sure that's enough to give it the ratings it needs to stay on tv .

At the same time in my opinion it does no good for the advancement of pool as a respected sport . We need bigger sponsors to get on board to get more money into pool tournaments and this show in my opinion would be counter productive .

Bikers and tattoo artists have been able to overcome the negative image and do quite well on tv, so i think that the old notion of hustlers and crooks in pool could be overcome with the right cast and writing/editing. i would watch and at least give it a shot

Right!!! If you show both sides (under belly so to speak and professional) of the equation it might actually get people out to the poolroom in excitement.

Sometimes bad publicity is good but like said above it could further hurt the game.

Color of MONEY anybody???

i think its a good idera, the cash not pool would be the reason ppl would watch it, like high Stakes Poker, or Poker After Dark, guys throwing bricks of $$$ around. The problem is getting them to bet it, they will at poker but not in pool. Your on the right track...

I think with the crap most people are into the days the show would be a highly rated show. The general public would eat it up as long as there is drama even if it pool drama it fricking drama. Drama is what fuels most of these shows. Do you not think there isnt any drama in a pool room?? :lol:

See that's the allure. Poker is just a bunch of chips but stacks of cash would definetly be better to see :cool:
 
Hustlin' TV Show

The problem being, I don't think most people understand the whole gambling lifestyle and it's influence in the pool community. I don't think most people would connect with the show.

I do appreciate your enthusiasm though.

100% correct - I LOVE playing. LOVE the artistry (kind of a mathmatics in motion). LOVE the competition. LOVE the personal challenge, and head to head nature of the game...etc. etc. etc. Couldn't care less about the gambling or money involved. I believe I "understand" it, but still, couldn't care less about it.

I also don't need to know how much Albert Puhols gets paid on average per at bat, or how much Tiger pulls down in endorsements per year to recognize their talents. Some LOVE knowing that stuff. I like the GAME or the competition.

You beat me to it. Yes "Color of Money" was much the same story line and Big Hit at the Box Office. Of course we couldn't get Tom Cruise to play the lead. I see it as a Road Hustler going from town to town and tonight he is in your town or neck of the woods. Of course this will have to be pure acting and no actual action. But the audience wouldn't know, if written right. Our Hero could lose a few bucks once in a while just to keep it interesting.

For the Politically Correct, the under tone would show nice family style pool rooms where Our Hustler is not welcome and a lot of reference to friendly league play. Yes Pool has it's under side but look how much fun it can be playing friendly leagues and tournaments. Hey we Gamble at Golf, Football Games, Poker etc etc.
 
It would be a great idea to have your particular person (an actually good pool player), go on the road with a film crew. There to capture the good and the bad of the gambler making a living.
 
yep people would watch to see the cash, but wouldn't have a F'N clue about what was going on...the pool hall and its gunslingers have their own language, it's not like amazon sells the pool sharks lingo for dummies handbook.

I still love it when someone asks "whats a NIT?", I just tell them nit's are to the game like zits to your face....
 
Blaiir Thein had the Hustle Bus idea where he was going to take Players on the road-not to hustle but to match up. He even did some taping a couple years back. Not sure where the project is now.
