These are some quotes from a posting by qbilder on the Thread titled : "What is fair?"

"Handicapping is a something for nothing fix for the something for nothing kind of people."

"Now any hack can be competent, without the time and practice. & Most of the field is full of "something for nothings"

"They suck and they want the chance to get paid for it."

"Handicapping straights sucks. Simply."

"I don't check PM's, please email me instead: sugartreecue@gmail.com"

I personally don't get it. Is this posterboy really connected to Sugartree?
Frankly we less capable players are just looking for competition with our contemporaries. If the really good players want to play down to our level
they are going to have to handicap us. Otherwise play by yourselves.
I know that most upper level players understand this. I just don't know where posterboy is coming from or how he expects to sell his sticks.

He just wants to do it his way I suppose....His cues are extremely hard to get and command a nice price. I currently have 3 and they all hit great. I have owned alot of really nice cues, and his hit as good as some of the best. And alot of people if they are being honest will say that. But...if you dont like a stiff hit, you may not like his cues. They have a very stiff, crisp hit. He may come off as an abrasive person, but I assure you, he is a really good guy.

And, if you have not figured this out, he will definately speak his mind. If he is wrong though, I know he will admit to his mistakes.

Alot of people like Bluegrass cues, but I have bought 6 on here, and I have sold each and every one of them, I just do not like them. I like my ST cues because Eric really has some tricked out wood in his cues, and thats what I like.

Understand or not, he certainly sells his sticks and gets a nice price for them too.

Everything I've heard and read says his sticks are among the best. I don't doubt it. That's why I titled my thread as I did. He's obviously an artist. I guess because he is an artist he is entitled to his chickenschit attitude.:nanner:

People may not like the way he said it, but there is some truth in what he said.

I have been around pool on and off for only 20 yrs, but I can still say it aint like it used to be. We didnt have handicap tournaments, if you wanted to play you paid and you played. If you didnt want to keep losing you tried to learn new things and you practiced. To me it was a no brainer, for the price of a cheap tournament I was able to gain experience playing better players, for much less than they would want to get on the table normally.

Many of todays players dont want to pay for lessons, read books, study tapes, or god forbid practice. They prefer to be able to show up, get a handicap, and have a chance at cashing.

To me its a double edge sword, the leagues that have made handicaping popular have brought a lot of new players to the game and thats great. But too many have become dependant on handicaping and are not willing to pay the price to improve. And this in many areas has all but killed scratch tournaments.

Pool can be tough, and it is hard for someone with a full time job to get in and compete with the guys that do nothing but play pool. But through learning and initial practice they can reach a level to compete with most if not all local players.

Heck Donnie even showed that a working stiff can compete with top pros! But he worked hard to get there.

i understand:
the man doesnt like handicapping
the man doesnt like something for nothings
and he doesnt check pms, likes to use email instead...
i know:
he builds one hell of a cue.

I don't see a "chickenschit" attitude. Looks like he spoke his mind. I wouldn't call that "chickenschit". Seems like he doesn't like handicap systems. I can't blame him, I played APA and that system sucked. As the old timers that whipped me used to say "If you don't want to take your lumps as you get better, maybe you can take up needlepoint".

This is why some people prefer to remain anonymous.

Its nice to be able to post opinions without dragging your business into it.

There is nothing "chickenschit" about his attitude. He speaks his mind and does not seem to care about comments from the peanut gallery .... good for him. Why do you care so much about how Eric conducts himself ? Did he refuse to sell you a cue ? :rotflmao1:

I have never like handicapped tournaments. There is just too much room for screwing around. A hall I worked at as a kid ran two 9 ball tourneys a week. One was a B&C tourney and the other was the A tourney. I like this format much better.

Man up, kid. Put your nuts in the action fire & you'll get good enough that you'll not need a handicap anymore. You obviously know nothing about me. Look around. Do you see me advertising? Do you see me in the for sale section trying to dump cues? What exactly makes you think i'm here trying to sell cues? Am I not allowed to participate in a public forum without being hassled? I'm not going to cherry cream puff things because you or anybody else might get their panties in a bunch. Life's to short to pussyfoot around. I'm not diplomatic nor tactful. I'm square. If that's too much for you to grasp, then it's your issue, not mine.

Didn't your daddy ever teach you about being a man? You have your opinions, everybody else has their's. And everybody gets along. We don't have to agree. Nothing else to say. It seems you spent too much time with mommy watching the love boat & now want to dramatize everything that doesn't fit your mold. Here you are starting a wussy thread looking for support for your protest. Everybody else has the same opportunity to read the same crap you read, and do you see them starting a new bash thread? No. The men & women can respect that everybody is entitled to their own opinions. Get a grip on yourself, seriously.

Honestly, you must be pretty new. You are kicking a dead horse & clearly understand very little about it. I'm not Mr.Popular around here, and don't try to be. If you didn't know that, then you haven't been around long. My cues & my personality are two separate entities. Nobody's buying my cues because i'm their bestest freind in the whole world. Seriously, i piss a lot of people off. This is, after all, a public forum for conversation. I use it for that purpose, not for advertising. I love pool & love talking about it. In fact, if I were not a cuemaker, would you have even started this thread? I seriously doubt it. Are you slaying your metaphorical dragon? Are you probing the world for support of your noble quest? What exactly is your purpose of this thread?

Edit: i'm being sarcastic & taking some fun pokes at you. no need to be alarmed. i don't hate you or think badly of you. i don't know your daddy or mommy or you, for that matter. just having fun with you

Sugartree Cues

Eric calls it like he sees it and does things his way.

I have a couple of his cues and one under heavy construction, hard hat area only.

He is obviously doing something right because he's still young and has orders until the day he chooses to stop.
I've never read any of his non-cue related posts but since this is an open forum I'm sure he has an opinion.
It's just good to have people like him posting because some cue builders shy away from posting on AZB.

so you think handicaps in tournaments and league is the way it should be? Personally I dislike them, I've always believed its my choice not to practice as much and shouldn't punish those that work harder than me.

And yes, Eric's cues are great.

he is a great friend and is very polite, nothing like his posts.

He doesent build cues for a living, it his passion. So he builds what he wants to build.

best
eric

And yes he builds GREAT cues, and is a geniuos with his knowlege of woods.

All I can say on this subject is, if you don't like handicap tournaments don't play in them. There are plenty of open tourneys around so don't feel like you have to play in a handicap. Why piss and moan about them?

I am exactly what I post. The problem with internet forums is lack of 3 dimensional conversation. You cannot hear my tone of voice. You cannot see my facial expressions. You can take my words & make them mean anything you want them to mean. Most likely, unless you know me personally & can relate my words with my personality, you'll take me at a total different value than I meant to offer in my words. This is why I do not get serious about these forums. I don't judge anybody on here because of the things they write. The reason is because I don't know them & totally understand that what they are writing may hurt my feelings down in my gut, but if I were hearing the words & watching the body language, I may actually be laughing my ass off instead of hurting. That's a character trait often not seen in publiuc forums and most generally why things often become a fight.

I do appreciate the kind words from those who understand.

This is well said & too seldom considered...

Methinks I misjudged

Kudos to you for having so many supporters. Overwhelmingly they consider
you a good man as well as an artist. I defer to their judgement. While I don't take issue with your opinion about handicaps and , frankly , never experienced them before moving to Arizona, I ,because,as you said, the forum is not 3-dimensional, got my panties in a bunch because of your term
something for nothings. I don't consider myself that.
I appreciate and enjoyed your comments because they helped me get my head on straight about where you are coming from. I apologize to your supporters for underestimating your character. You have my apologies if you want them but from what I have learned about you very quickly is that you will live on happily without them. I only wish that I could afford one of your cues some day.:withstupid:
