Just got the book with his life story and read about a place called Chicago billiards in West Haven Connecticut .

They said that place was a pool players dream and there was action 24/7
Just curious if any of yall have been there or have any stories about the place

Yes I have been there many times and yes it was a pool players paradise. Ralph (the owner) would not let a moment pass without some kind of action.

That place was nuts action all the time and the guys that got busted came down to the city looking for easy action . But no easy action in the City at Chelsea billiards he played there a lot and sometimes pop up at the Golden Q in Queens..

Really......I went to high school there....don't remember a pool hall...not surprising though, didn't start playing pool till I was in my 40's. Anyone know what street that is on?

great place

first time I went there felt like I was going back in time to the 60's. you had to go upstairs and when you opened the door all you SMELT was ACTION IN THE HOUSE. One nite we went there with the Lion Alex P. and his crew after he beat Larry Liscotti the night before for i think 3G'S. well Larry says to him I can't beat you playing 9 ball kid but if you want to play one handed for a 100 or 2 a game i'll play, and so they did. who would have thought the kid that look about 13 yrs old could play 1 handed, but he could run out and beat Larry for for a few more and that was that. Meanwhile there was action on another table that was better and we didn't know till later on. Wish that place was still there just to watch the action. sorry to say i didn't see Danny play there. READ THE BOOK and its as good as it gets, no B.S. just the way it is on the road.

Leehayes, all I know it was right off I-95N exit 40,turn rt. and a block up the street on the left in a small strip mall i guess you would say. I THINK!

The trait I admire most about Danny is that when you talk to him, he gives you his undivided attention, looking you in the eye. Sometimes a player might speak with a fan, but their mind is elsewhere. When you speak to Danny, he is actually listening intently on every word spoken. He's a great listener.

One more thing, he respects his peers and those who played pool before him. He'd never bad-mouth anybody to advance himself.

I miss seeing him on the tournament trail. I think his best year was 2004, but he got smashed with unfulfilled promises, and I know that had to be a blow to him emotionally. I hope he's happy today!

Yeah I heard him talking to the guys on the stream at Turning Stone as well; I loved the book and hope that Danny starts getting back into the tournaments again.

Having him around and playing definitely makes the sport better. I also like him because he's more of a slower, deliberate player, like myself.

i lived in CT until i was 20 and unfortunately never played there. i played mostly in milford at a place called milford rec and there was a good amount of action there - back then i sucked way worse than i do now so watching was all i did:( but back in the 80's you couldn't swing a dead cat and not hit a room in CT. we had the rec and cool breeze in milford, the cue and brea in branford, diamonds in bridgeport (my hometown) the felt forum in fairfield, there was a nice place in new haven i can't remember the name of where i got to see ct. johnny vivas play earl, there were a couple places we'd go in stamford and one place in danbury where i got watch allen hopkins play one night - i wish my memory didn't suck and i could remember all of the names of the rooms (back then there were let's just say indesrections that cloud my memory) and then of course we would go into the city and play at chelsea billiards. to this day i still miss that place and all the memories i have of playing there - i still have a chelsea billiards hat that i hang on the wall in my living room. and my parents have a place in newport ri. so we would go to providence and play at snookers. i wish i took pool more seriously back and sisn't stop playing for 13 years - christ i might actually be good now:eek:

Danny is still playing tournaments, I talked to him at the last predator tour stop. Very nice guy in person. And like you said, a good listener too. He was talking about his movie, and said thats why he had not been playing as much lately. Jack Black is playing dannys part. I wished Danny lots of luck with his project.

Naturally, I got knocked out early. So I also got a chance to watch Danny play. He didnt place, but he can still bring it. I heard he had a side arm stroke, but he does not.
