Hey all,

Sorry if this isn't the spot, but I didn't know if intros were the thing to do here. So please feel free to delete mods if I screwed up.

The name is andy if you can't tell from my dumb name and I've been playing pool since I was a kid. my old man and I used to shoot a buch of 9ball on a bar table in my basement. A lower end brunswick, but still a blast.

Didn't play much othen than in bars for years until i joined an APA team and now I'm back amped on it. My goal is to start playing more 9 ball on full size tabes, but I need to play and leaarn more yet.

To be really honest, I've never been tought correctly and have a lot to learn. I'm rated a 4 in APA 8 ball and have my moments, but I'm sure you all know how that goes...

I'd like to learn more here and contribute when i can. I've just recently bought a Poison cue (after my cheep sneaky was broken over a dudes knee in a bar... ps... all i was doing was racking...) and it plays well (for what I know) but I can't stand how it looks... call me vein.

Anyways, I hope I'm not intruding and I hope I can add here more than I can hurt. Thanx,-a

Welcome to the Forum Andy. This is the correct spot for your intro.
Where in New York are you? I sent some Christmas greenies for you.

welcome Andy

Glad you found "the" site for all types of pool/billiards. Many knowledgeable folks on here so don't be shy about asking questions, even the simplest I have seen are meet with polite and informative answers. Keep practicing!

Vena Cava? Varicose?

Ok Vein! (You did say to call you "vein," right? And which one would you like this moniker to refer to -- Vena Cava, Varicose vein, ...? But I digress...)

Welcome to the forum, and as was already said, no question is a stupid question. FYI, there's a TON of information to be found here, and the "Search" feature (on the top menu of the each forum page) is your best friend.

Looking forward to seeing you on these boards,
-Sean

No dumb posting, Andy. The fact that you're conscientious about it speaks volumes -- you sound like a very courteous fellow!

I'm in Putnam County, not too far from you.

Yup, quite familiar with Gallery Billiards in Newburgh. Used to play a lot in their Thursday night 9-ball tournament (I'm in their books as a "9 +2"). I have Jack and Jill Billiards in Brewster, NY, about 2 mins from my house. Great nostalgic room; pictures of a young Allan Hopkins and many other greats playing there adorn the walls. Great folks (Steve P. is a great guy), and stiff competition as well.

I'm heading to Denver early tomorrow morning and won't be back until Jan 3rd, but yes -- definitely interested in shooting a few when I get back!

I welcome you with traditional Northumbrian welcome....

Welcome to the forum.

Having been in the same situation as you are I learned the hard way. A lot of bad info from players that thought they knew everything. Wasted a lot of years and learned a lot of bad habits.

If you are really serious I would recommend taking the 3 day course from one of the BCA pool schools. It will save you many years of bad pool playing. If nothing else you will learn the proper stance and the correct way to stroke. Once you have that you will be amazed at how much easier the game is.

again all, thanks for the warm welcom and happy holidays and merry christmas... and all that jazz....

bca pool schools? that's very interesting to me. does anyone have some info on that in NY. thanx book.

GO AWAY while you still have the chance, soon you will be addicted like us and can't do anything really meaningfull in life, just pressing F5 waiting for updates in the threads.

If you think you are strong enough to control it, forget about it. I know you think it won't happen to you, but trust me, in the end you will be an azholic too...

Still decided to stay? Welcome to the forum. It is fun to hang around here.

It's like a virtual poolhall. You have the pro players, the bangers, the railbirds, backers, poolhall owners, promotors and just fans of the game writing here, and even some real old guys telling stories about how it was in the good old days.

Something for everyone :)

Welcome to the Forum Andy. You will find the Search feature very helpful to look up what has been posted on various topics in the past. There is a wealth of information here on AZB and some wonderful people that also love the game.

into the lion's den

Yeah, everybody comes on all goody-goody, were like brothers here, you
can trust us, were family, tell us your story Huh, huh, huh.Well, these guys are just sittin' around waitin' for you to make your first dumb mistake or question. Then, BAM ! No mercy. They'll rip your heart out while it's still beating. You would be well off to keep a suicide hot line phone number close to your computer and put 911 on speed dial. Not me of course. I will always tell you the truth and be a nice guy. So watch your butt !

But beside all that, welcome to AZ and have a nice day.:angel2:

TheBook...I agree that there is no better gift you can give yourself (and your pool game), than to attend one of the 3-day intensive schools. There will be a BCA 3-day pool school, in the NYC metro area, over President's Day weekend (Feb. 13, 14 & 15). It will be held at Sandcastle Billiards, in Edison NJ. Anyone interested can PM me details.

To the OP...welcome to the forums Andy!
