What's your 14.1 resolution for 2010

I think my biggest resolutions for 2010 would have to be the following.

1. Practice better and by this I mean not getting involved on stupid games with people I don't want to play with but have a tough time saying no to when they ask. These are the games that you basically just throw your cue at the ball to get the game over with. Also by practicing better I mean doing drills and practicing putting break and key balls on the table and finding the possible patterns.

2. Become a better student of the game and instead of looking away or getting frustrated that my opponent is at the table figure out why it happened move on from that singular moment and focus on what is happening on the table. Also by being a better student I mean devouring any and all reference materials, magazines books DVDs etc.

3. This is actually a big one for me but to write more about this insane game we are all so passionate about I mean after all the pen is mightier than the cue or is it sword? I like my way better. In all seriousness there could be a possible book in the works. Never wrote one before but have been contacted by some interesting people who would be interested if something was to be put on paper.

4. Beat Stevekur1 more. LOL sorry Steve.

5. Play in any and all 14.1 events as possible to the point where I might move to the state of Virginia for the month of February just to qualify for the state championships.

6. This the biggest one of all and I'm hoping I can make it happen again to play in the 2010 world straight pool championships. There was nothing better pool wise in my year. Hanging out with Dennis and Marop was amazing as it really did ease some of the nerves knowing some fellow azers were there. Even if marop did tell me schmidty was watching my match with mika which made me nervous as he'll. LOL

7. World peace?

To everyone on this incredible forum I thank you it is because of your knowledge and support that I ambecoming the player slowly but surely I want to be. And of course a special thank you to my brother Steve through thick and thin my mentor and the best friend a guy could have.

Of coures I would like to run a 43, I think you all know that.

I would like to shoot 300 (serious) balls a day at least 3 times a week.

Continue to work on and improve my fundamentals.

Develop a process to quickly read the table, select a sequence, identify the final cue ball position, implement this consistently in my match play.

ID BB, KB and KB2KB early, develop more basic 14.1 knowledge.

Play more with people, especially players who run 50 more frequently.

Beat WBM in my challenge for King of Indiana, that will be coming up ext year hopefuly we can get it in at the Derby.

World Peace for Dessert.

1) Play 14-1 (haven't played it once in 2009)

2) Play more pool (have had arm injuries so have played pool less than 20 times total this year)

3) Make a 50+

4) If I have a good feeling, I might embarrass myself in public at Bob Jewett's 14-1 Challenge at DCC

EDIT: I lied, I played a couple of racks of 14-1 in 2009 at DCC with SJM

i vow to:

trust my aim.

feel the game.

and realize that it's just a game.

we're all going to be dead one day and sooner than we realize. enjoy the moments that we have, weather they are playing pool or visiting friends. these ARE the good old days.

@realizm

i could bet and swear:if the ppl would see the point of view you ve shown up, their game would increase much more- just to be glad to spend time on your hobby and JUST ENJOYING this helps you to play with more confidence. Sure everyone wanna win if he s playin in a league etc.
But the most of the playes i know even are afraid in training to loose or something stupid like that........not very helpful^^

again, merry x-mas and always a smooth stroke^^

Ingo

Tap, tap, tap......It's great to hear everyones goals for the upcoming year

Charlie I believe I like tour upcoming goals the best...

And as far as what you about playing in the worlds being your highlight for the year, I tend to dissagree . It's more like a highlight for a lifetime. You should embrace that, it's not every player that gets that chance.
As for me, I will see you there next year. Because that is my ultaye goal for 2010 and for my life-time.....

Steve

Happy holidays everyone.

My resolution for 2010 is to run in the 30's.

That is, unless I get there tonight!

The pool hall opened at 5, and I'm off for some Xmas straight pool!

play smarter 14.1

Great thread,I just want to reach 50 then move on to ???. I got to 44 as a freshman in 1968.against my father,he was happier than me.My high in league is 39.a year ago.I am playing better than ever now but can't get things going.I am wearing the pages off of Phil Capelle"s Play your best straight pool.I've been watching Mike Davis run racks here at strokers in Palm Harbor fl. Makes it look so easy.Any day in 2010 I can feel it.HEY wait a minute! Its still 2009. I still have time LOL.Have a wonderfull new year filled with lots of high runs and good health. SINCERELY HANK:smile:

Hank:

A froshman in 1968? You must be from my era. Had I not taken time off to hitchhike around the country and "find myself", I would have been a froshman in 1969.

Back in the 70s when I played a little bit, I luckily got into the 20 somethings a couple of times. I picked the game up again about 5 or so years ago and finally reached my 50 in 2009. I think my high run in a league match is a 42 or 43. My brother played more and ran a 53 in the 1970s. He picked it up again and though he doesn't play as much as me, ran a 70 in 2009.

There is still time for us old guys to improve. I'm still working on things that hopefully will result in me playing a better 14.1 game. Good luck in your journey!

Hank, I can tell your a good man. I enjoy reading your posts. Keep playing 14.1 and let us know how you are coming along.
Dmgwalsh: we are the same age. It is good to talk to people that know times of history as we do.

Lou: I have that run on video. Do you want a dvd of it?

Dennis, just saw this (I've been busy elsewhere lately :-)

Would love to have it if it isn't too troublesome. Will be happy to pay whatever.

Thanks for the offer

Lou Figueroa

Am working with a professional friend on 2010 goals (we set them out on paper each year; then re-hash at the end of the year). Here are the ones that apply to straight pool.

1. Run 75 (current high run = 61, I only have a witness for 57).

2. Memorize everything in Mark Wilson's as yet unpublished book (I've had an in-depth look at it; reading is fun, but master it and you should rain 100's).

3. Beat my professional practice partner enough to adjust the handicap down to 200 to 100. We play at 260 to 100 now; with 2 wins in a row I subtract 10 from the handicap, if I lose 2 in a row I add 10 to the handicap. The games are hard fought, and losses are hard to take with that large of a spot.

4. Run a 50 against my professional practice partner (I've run 41 twice, but it's an extremely unforgiving Diamond table).

5. Get to the final 16 in the Maryland Straight Pool Championship (shoulda/coulda done it this year, but overall somewhat unrealistic without an extremely lucky draw...maybe I should practice more...this stupid day job is interfering with my pool addiction).

P.S. - I'm adding another after reading this thread. #6. Trounce elvicash at every opportunity. My instructor is insisting that I start keeping track of each match (mainly good and bad things about performance, but also wins and losses), so I would rather report victories....I hope EC stops practicing very soon.

My goal is to run 50-60 balls a day in practice (no one plays the game around here so 97% of the 14.1 I play is in practice). Currently I usually finish the day out with a 40sumthin, rarely less than 30.

I need to work on my patterns (specifically my end patterns) and thought process (I sometimes get straight in on some balls simply because I don't take the time check to see where I want be).

I'll also be trying to improve my stroke timing for snooker, so I have to imagine it can't hurt my 14.1 any.
