Ì am not sure if there has been a thread about this subject, if there has, I apologise foir starting another.

I am wondering if any of the winners of prize money in the 2009 event have been paid out yet?

I ask, because David Alcaide of Spain who finished third, has yet to receive any communication from the promoters of this event, Raya Sports.

Last year, the forum was full of comments about this same situation.

David wrote to Raya on the 10th Decmebr and his e-mail did not attract a reply.

My thoughts are that this company should be barred by the world governing body from promoting international events as their record is not one to be admired.

I was the one who made a lot of noise about this event and the payouts a year ago, warning players and friends before the event, and I got a lot of beating on here from some because I said the players wouldn't get paid within a month after the event.

I have heard nothing prior to the event this year, so I thought they had learnt and that there would be no issue.

Last year NO players got paid the first 5 weeks, then they paid the Americans so AZBilliards could post a press-release saying players got paid to calm down all the posts and e-mails, then a few weeks later the Europeans were paid after some more e-mails back and forth.

In January I published the news that Chia Ching Wu was still unpaid, 4 months after the event. He then got paid.

I thought the WPA and Raya had settled these issues by now

What is the point of sanctioning events if it is not to guarantee that the players get paid?

Have you contacted WPA about this issue? Try to send a PM to Jerry Forsyth, he is boardmember of the WPA and also a friend of Yen Makabenta, the promotor of the event.

I totally agree with you that Raya should be barred from doing events if the same thing has happened again.

I also think that it is about time that the PLAYERS get their own organization so they can get some influence in the world of pool....
 
I hope the silence means that everyone else got paid, and that there hopefully is a good explanation for why David Alcaide is the only one who hasn't been paid... Perhaps his unanswered e-mail went to the spam/junk box...

Or maybe Yen put it in his spambox, since he knows from last year that the WPA doesn't care about late payments, so he can stall a little more. Who cares about a poolplayer anyway, huh?
 
Lets not forget also the political pool wars surrounding the feuding entities in the Philippines were also the cause of Bandido's murder.

There are probably people who were still not paid from the 2008 event.

Efren, Busty, Alex, and crew are right in boycotting these events.

If I were a pro pool player, I would NEVER EVER EVER go play in a WPC event produced by the same entity, after two years in a row it didn't or slow-played its players, and caused the death of a person.
 
They owe us as well Roy (pops n me 2000 total). Im waiting patiently for that money so I can sidebet with you at World team championships :D

LOL, you probably guys need to research the meaning of "Filipino Time."

But it sucks regardless specially that the promoter is using the name of the country.

I know the concept Filipino time perfectly well, but there are NO excuse for delayed payments. This is a World Championship SANCTIONED by the WPA.

Players shouldn't need to worry about when they are going (if) to be paid, and the promotor should atleast as a minimum reply to e-mails.

I know many Filipinos and they have never failed to give me a good and quick answer when I have sent e-mails to them, so using Filipino time as an excuse is ridicilous at best.

And Raya knows perfectly well how to use e-mail, it took only a few hours after I started a negative thread about them a year ago till I had an e-mail from them...

The big questin here is however, why do the WPA keep looking in another direction?

The CEP should write the WPA on David's behalf. I guess this is such a serious dilema that it warrants the attention of the CEP and WPA. David Alcaide should not be left alone on this issue.
 
More players confirmed today that they have got no payment and no reply on their e-mails.

So this is how a World Championship is being run?

This is how the WPA and Raya are showing their respect to the players?

I won't bump this thread more though, seems like people don't care any more, since delayed payments, non payment and cutting in guaranteed added money seems to be the norm these days.

A year ago a thread like this would have had hundreds of posts by now...

So how can the WPA announce the World 9 Ball Event when the World 10 Ball Event still owes money to the players? It really doesn't make sense to me what this organization true function is.
 
Raya is holding an event in April, the Philippine Open 10-ball. It is WPA-sanctioned, and is a ranking event.

Still, the player I talked to today has not been paid yet.

Thought that deserved a bump of this thread
 
Is it because Raya is broke and doesn't have the means to pay? The magnitude of this event is too big to be a case of Tournament Organizers being corrupt. just wondering..

I have no idea - all I know is that they have hosted 2 World Ten Ball Championships.

It took them 4 months to finally pay Chia Ching Wu his $ 20,000 last year. I believe he was the last person paid then.

It's now been more than 2 months since the tournament ended (November 30, 2009), and there are still unpaid players.

Seems like Raya doesn't care about the players at all. 100 % of the championships they have organized have treated the players very disrespectful, imo.

How can the WPA sanction events that are run like this? I really can't believe it.

Shouldn't the WPA be there to PROTECT THE PLAYERS???
 
Barry Behrman still owes Mika Immonen 90% of his money from US Open.

Yen/Raya owes Mika and nearly all the players from World10ball

Efren is still owed by IPT from his 500k win years ago

Some players ar still owed money by Raya from one of its events 2 years ago, one of its national tour stops

People are owed money that bet on the Reyes/Chao match with the company JBET online

There are alot of new big events , but Unfortunaetly there are less than a handful of promoters I can think of that produce big events and pay on time with no problems.

I appreciate this information, and only recently found it while trying to confirm if the Philippine Open will even be played this year. Months ago, I posted here on AZ trying to get info on the Subic-Olongapo Open, which is also promoted by Raya. I e-mailed him many times, no response. No one here on AZ, the greatest billiard information source on the planet, has any info on this tournament that is listed on the WPA website for begeezus sakes! It should start next week (smile), so I will finally learn something one way or the other. Now, I am looking at the Philippine Open, but there is no info for this tournament either. It is listed on the WPA website as a go, but who really knows? The Ladies Tournament in April may be the only sure thing in Manila until November comes around. I must confess that a certain Pro player from the Philippines (to remain nameless) warned me about this guy two years ago. I was told that none of the top players would play in his tournaments. Stick with Puyat Sports (I was told), and you will be fine. Puyat still carries a lot of respect in Asia, and they have the weight to back their events.

A new entity needs to be created. With the proper people at the helm, (people without money needs) maybe players could at least be guaranteed to receive the payouts advertised.

It is truly a travesty that the players continue to get the short end of the stick.

I've got to hand it to you Roy. You are a consistent, reasonable voice in these affairs. I would hope that if an entity such as this is ever created that you might have some input or participation in it.

World 10-ball Women moved...

I've tried to find info about Philippines Open and the World 8-ball in Fujareh, but even boardmembers of WPA or world champions know nothing about these events, and are basically waiting for more info.

The World 8-ball starts supposedly in 3,5 week or so...
