I'm posting this here instead of the main forum because the AZ members who visit here would be more likely to run across this scenario. Let me tell you folks what happened and let me know if I have any recourse....

I was friends with this girl for a short time. I went in to visit her a few nights ago (platonic, Ktown :)), and it was cold and raining outside. I brought my cues inside so they wouldn't be left in my cold, damp truck.

I left kinda in a hurry and left my cues there at her apartment. I know that for a fact. Of course when I called her the next day to go by and pick them up, she told me that I was mistaken, and I hadn't left them there. She obviously doesn't play seriously or she would know that players keep exact tabs on their weapons. She said that she looked good everywhere, and the case (with 3 cues inside) was nowhere in the apartment. She wouldn't let me come back to the apartment and look for myself. I have found out since that she has very shady friends, and one of them is the son of one of the most notorious pool hustlers ever to live in these parts.

Knowing that I left the cues there, I visited the local pawn shops. One of the shops said that a person matching her description was just in trying to pawn cues, but that their particular shop didn't take cues in on pawn. That owner told me of another pawn shop, but warned that the owner was a crook who asked few questions, and thats where every druggie and crack head took everything that they could steal. I went by there. The owner told me that he couldn't legally tell me what he had taken in on pawn and it would be 60 - 90 days before it would be put out for sale. He told me that if I thought something was stolen, that I could file a police report. I may have made a mistake even going there, tho, because he told me that it had been quite a while since he had taken in any cues, and that he didn't have any cues at the present time. I personally saw 3 cheap cues leaning in the corner behind the counter.

I went to file a police report, and this is my luck. The police station in the small town where I moved was closed for Christmas. How about that. Now it is a small town, but I've never heard of that. The doors were locked tight and there was a note on the doors that if anyone had an emergency, they should dial 911. The note said the police department would reopen Monday.

I was leaving for Chattanooga for a few days later that afternoon, so I rode on over here to see some friends. I plan on heading back Thursday or Friday. I don't know what to do. I have all the players in the county on the lookout, and there are only 2 small rooms in the area.

Help me out. Do I have legal recourse since I left the cues there and they went missing? I am filing a police report for sure, but since I'm out of state I guess I should wait till I get back into town.

Help me out folks..... What is my best course of action?

Thanks in Advance,
Mike

I am very sorry for your bro- in my opinion almost no way to get your babies back on legally way- and that i would do....i d better do not post here- think talkin about *broken knees by accident* would be wrong- or do we have a *emergency-room section here , too?:o

I hope you will have luck mate,

dont know the law. id file a report maybe call local rooms tell them be on the lookout. offer a reward if returned. also maybe post pcs in the stolen cue section here

I know she won't get over $100 at a Pawn Shop. I'd love to buy them back for that and just chalk it up to experience.

I don't know what to tell you about your legal aspects but I will tell you this , I would get a couple of my friends together and I would be going through her door no matter what with whatever I had to use to get in. And who ever or whatever was in the way would be taken down. She knows what she did, she probably figured you were f-up or something and wouldn't remember ,, (if you were) Im just saying Im sorry if you weren't but I heard stories like this before. A friend of mine's ex girl friend did the same stuff, she was hooked on crack and we knew who had them and we went knocking on the dealers door. Then he had a accident and fell face first down his steps if you know what I mean. He got his cue's and case back but Cops were more interested in arresting us then the crack dealer. It's bad when it's right in front of the cops and they cant do nothing but if you do something they will be all over you. But I would want my cue's back and I would be over there going through that door ... Good luck buddy I hope it works out for you <<ED

When you file your police report, go into as much detail as you can on the description. Sometimes police get copies of everything that is taken in at pawn shops (at least they do in our area). You don't really have any recourse right now (unless they turn up and someone hocks them or tries to sell them and the police get wind of it.) In small towns, the police usually know who is doing most of the thefts. After you file your report, call every now and then, and see if anyone has heard anything.

I feel your pain. Unfortunutly it's your word against hers. and without proof all you can do is file the report and keep an eye out. if you have some pictures of the case and the cues you could post them up on here and we all can keep a look out for anything in the sale sections and Fleabay. Sadly, I think you are SOL unless you can catch her with the cues on hand. Just my opinion as this has happened to me. Not with cues, but a Bike when I was younger.

Sorry,
Rob

I must first state that the comments about to be put in this thread are what I know a "friend" of mine would do. He would simply go over to the aforementioned apartment and stick a pistol in her face and simply ask her if her memory has gotten any better...
I'm sure her memory would clear up quite nicely...

I - for the record - am not saying I would condone such behavior,
but I wouldn't be in disagreement that it might work just fine...

I ain't saying...I'm just saying...

File the Police report, include the 1st. Pawn Shop's identification of Her trying to pawn some cues the day after. Maybe you will get lucky and get them back. Another question is positive identification, were they custom or production cues? Does the case have your name tooled on it, or do you have any photos of the cues that can be used to positively identify them?

While I don't condone this behavior either...I do know RackRunners "friend" and this is exactly what he'd do without doubt. He's the guy with the .45 tucked in his pants with the "I don't dial 911" t-shirt.

Definitely file the police report ASAP. Make sure you mention that the owner of the first pawn shop stated that someone matching the girl's description was in trying to pawn cues...they will go talk to him. Also make sure to mention that she denied you access to her apartment, when there had never been an issue before the cues went missing. Hopefully you have some pics available to provide for ID purposes, and to show proof of ownership.

This will all point it's way to her being the thief, which she apparently is...and she will very likely be arrested.

Many years ago, I had a room mate who developed a little coke problem, and he hocked my Canon FTB camera at a local pawn shop. I filed the police report, the pawn shop had the camera, and he was arrested. It was the last room mate I ever had. I did recover the camera.

Also, make up wanted posters of your cues and case...post them at every hall and bar in your local area...and even outside of the area, if possible. Put the heat on 'em.

Best of luck!

Lisa

I would suggest that you post pictures of your cues on this forum, before they are shown or discovered by someone else. That will establish a timeline & possibly a fact that you did have ownership.

Look at the situation, how would you get pictures of a cue or cues, that belonged to someone else, unless the new possessor allowed you to take pictures or you sold them or the cues were stolen... Just an idea.

Besides, there will be thousands of players helping you look for your possessions.

I don't care if the cops or anyone would condone it I for one would do just that, that girl knows whats up she knows what time it is. I don't think she would have a crack pipe in here mouth when I was done but I think it would be my GLOCK model 26 ... I guarantee she would remember .. But that just me , I wouldn't tell anyone to do it !!>>ED

I would have dialed 911 and asked what they wanted me to do,and if I could file a report with another station.I hope you have pictures. The faster you get the police on finding them the better chance for recovery.I believe they will check pawn shops and if they are there, you should get them back.I would tell police about her relative also as they can check him out also.Good luck

B4 this gets out of hand we all know what most of us would do. (In Reality) But, you need to keep in mind that these are shady people, and like he said a son of a huge Hustler. SO no doubt that they are big on the violence as well. Unless one is prepared for such recourse. you may just want to let it go and hope for the best. ANd as you so perfectly said it. Chalk it up to experience.

You might want to have a little discussion with the notorious pool hustler and his son. Make sure they are aware that a Police report is being filed.

I'm doing the cue repair at Gradys and Baileys here in Columbia. PM me with pics and specs and I'll keep a lookout for you. I would also like to know who the son of the hustler is.

in the mid-90s was playin in a pool-hall in a neighbourhood-town. There my Scruggs Sneaky-Pete was stolen while i was just gettin a drink.....2 minutes -_-
The owners of the pool-hall were just too afraid that *perhaps* might somethin terrible could happen (and i can tell you, it was close to..)- i was so upset and my 2 friends, too. But they let the 2 guy go out of the room and they saved them before i could catch em. I was 100 percent sure they stole it. Shit happens.....seems sometimes honor isn t like it was in earlier years

That sux  I would call the police and tell them what happened and see what they advise. Also, I might mention to the girl that it would be worth this $$$ amount to get the cues and case back, no questions asked. She might go for it. Other than that, maybe your homeowners insurance will cover the loss. But, I definitely would not do anything stupid such as violence or break into her apartment.
