They're kicking off the 1st Annual Chet Itow Memorial tournament today at California Billiards in Mtn. View, Cal. Chet was the prior owner of California Billiards and turned the place into the largest and nicest pool room in Northern California. He was a huge supporter of the sport and helped out a lot of players personally too. He was very well liked, appreciated, and respected.

I stopped by last night to check out the mini-tournament and the place was packed! A lot of great players in house. I have to work today but I'll swing by there and try and post up some pictures and match results. Should be a great tournament.

Just got here to check out the action. 153 players today. Good turn out! Chet would be happy. Max Eberle is getting ready to play. I'll post up some scores in a little while. It's going to be a long weekend trying to get this many players through in 2 days.

Wow! Great turnout!

I really did consider getting up there for this, but I am a bit pooped from my last trip.

Good luck everyone!

P.S. Hold on very tightly to your chair into the wee hours of the night - T.T. might get you!

Yeah, we miss you up here! But no fun trying to play when you're tired.
Oh, there is no defense from TT. You can only hope she is merciful.

Max is playing strong. Austin Murphy is has also been playing pretty strong. Man, he shot up to like 7' tall now! No Billy Palmer or George Michaels though.

Our own FlyingSnail is knee deep in action now.

Max won his match 8-6.

Thanks for posting some updates!!! We in AZB land appreciate it.
What other pros are there?

Ugh.. laptop died on me and it was so packed in the place I couldn't even sit anywhere near an outlet to charge it up.

They're wrapping up some matches tonight then 48 players will carry over until tomorrow at 11am. Deo Alpajora was playing strong when I left. Bryce Avila lost his first match to Gilbert but he was still hanging in there. For the women, Eleanor Collado had just won her last matchup and playing strong. I believe Mad Max is on for tomorrow as welll. Oddly, not very many pros. Just a lot of players.

Ok, I'm going out on a limb and taking the unknown Eberle. LOL. Not many pros, Max should take this one down.

Since he has to give up 5 games on 8 to some players, his odds go down some. This is a handicapped tournament using the USPPA system.

Bob Jewett-do you know Deo's rating?

Max giving 5 on the wire to 8 is pretty stout.

Any idea of Deo's rating and how he and Max would play?

Stay dry.

Thanks

I just swung by there. Max was still playing pretty damn strong despite the heavy weight he's giving up. He looks like he's stroking pretty nicely. Although the field is tightening up.

I'd like to give a big shout out to AZ's own ABall who is tearing it up! Last I saw he had Arturo Rivera parked in his seat and was about to close out that set. Great showing ABall! Also, got to give credit to Annigoni and his crew for running a pretty smooth tournament. No way can running 153 players, handicapped, double elimination in 2 days can be easy. They were all running.

And the employees at California Billiards were also doing a great job. They have a full kitchen there and serve up some really good food.

I'm guessing by the number of players still shooting that it's going to be running into the wee hours.

I just got the word that Max beat out Gilbert to get to the hot seat. Only a couple more matches to go. Go get em' Max!!

Bob,

Great pictures as always! Thanks. Saw many faces I know, but many I do not recognize.

Any updates? Did Max get it?

Max won the hot seat match case game against Gilbert giving him 4 games on the wire, but not sure what happened after that.

I ended up beating Arturo Rivera with a 2 game spot in a race to 8, 8-6. That got me into the 7/8th spot and I ended up losing my next match. Not to bad for a 153 player field!!

Just got word from TT that Max won the tourney. First set case game. He played great all weekend long and really deserved it.

Wild! The guy has the highest handicap in the event and snaps it off! Make him a 300!

Congrats to my amigo Max!
