Are you still in search of the Magic Cue, or Perfect Cue? I ask this question because some members here seem to get these GREAT Cues, post them in the Cue Gallery, or Review Section, tell how great the cues are, and the NEXT THING I see is they are in the For Sale Section of AZB:confused:

But honestly in my years of playing this game I have sold a few Cues for many reasons, like a Meucci that was like playing with over cooked PASTA, :banghead:but honestly I do not think there is a Magic Cue.

I normally like to take Two P Cue with me, or have one in my locker that is Lighter, or Heavier in Total Weight, as some days one Cue feels just right, and the next day I want something heavier or lighter in total weight.

Yes I have a small collection that sit in a Gun Safe, most of those Cues are NSF (not for sale), yes there are still a few Cues from a few builder I would love to own, but if that DREAM COMES DOESN'T COME TRUE. IT ISNO BIG DEAL.:thumbup2:

Honestly I think most well built Cue have the potential to Play, better than the people holding them.

Yes I like a Certain Weight Butt Section, a Certain Weight Taper Shaft Section, with a Quality Tip. BIMHO....

there is no MAGIC STICK, or should I say Cue Stick!!!:shocked2:

Actually ... and I'm not nearly the cue expert of many here ... I have a bar cue I used to love so much I bought it and converted it into a 2 piece.

Feeling Einsteinian ... I cut the ferrule length in half and installed a Triangle tip.

It plays essentially identical to my Predator sneaky. Itried it with a different bar cue for a friend and didn't get near the results.

What was different? ho knows.

To make a short story long ... it doesn't impress anyone to look at it and I'm not out more than $25.00 if I forget it somewhere.

I here ya on the review & gallery section. I`ve sold cues & traded cues that someday I will probably regret getting rid of but I also like to try different cues made by different cue makers. Thats why I sell & trade cues on AZB. And with todays economy today you have a job & 5 custom cues, next week you have no job so why hold the cues when they can help you pay some bills. Thats just my 2 cents worth. Everybody is different.

It is because the perfect cue does not exist, Cowboy. It is an illusion. A myth created by humankind that only serves to exemplify our feeble attempt at finding truth and beauty in the mundane and pedantic existence we call life. A far flung hope that there is more to our fate than the coldness of an eternal sleep, nevermore to taste the sweet nectar of youth, or dwell in the richness of old age.
Other than that, I like most of Tim Scrugg's stuff.

It is easier to buy a cue than practice.

I think it is crazy when someone posts that the feed back is fantastic. ie I can feel how much spin I put on the CB and where I hit it.

It is mostly hype to help with a future sale.

I had the cue bug for a few years, but the cue cycle got old. These days, I'm happy with my old plain jane that feels perfect to me. I just want a second shaft for it (prefer an old shaft to getting a new one made), then I'm probably done. I'll eventually upgrade my case to one that has the improvements I'd like to see in my current case.

Perfect Cue ?

Many years ago in a land far, far away I played pool( fairly well). I found that I could play with just about any cue. It would take me about 5-10 min. to get used to it and I was good to go, as long as the tip was like I wanted it. That ment more than how straight it was or balance or what kind of inlays it had. The cue does not pocket balls and get shape, YOU do.Your personel cue is important for one reason, consistency! When you pick up your cue you should know how it is going to react in a given situation. So Play Pool And Which Ever Cue You Choose To Be Yours Will Be Magic!

I think your sorta missing the point as far as why we passionately search & dig for cues....

CUES ARE FUXING AWESOME!!!!

I LOVE THEM, THEY RULE!!! LIKE A GREASY HAMBURGER TO A FAT MAN, LIKE SPLIT TAIL TO TIGER WOODS, I HAVE TO HAVE THEM. I OBSESS ABOUT THEM, I NEED THEM, I WANT THEM. EVERY SIZE, EVERY SHAPE.

YES, I'M SICK. NO, I WOULDN'T CHANGE THAT IF I COULD.

Diogenes (sp?)...you can put that lamp out now. Finally, the truth! I'm happy with my Josey as far as playability goes. Why do I still visit cue websites? Because cues are cool...yeah, they are.

There is no Magic cue...but there are cues that play like magic...if that makes any sense.

To me, the cue is more about instilling confidence. If it feels really natural to you in your hand, you are no longer thinking about it, but are more focused as to the task at hand.

I know that I am actually pretty happy with the cues I currently have...and none that broke the bank to acquire. I feel comfortable with them all...so it's more as the mood I'm in as to which cue I grab for the evening.

I am trying to acquire cues of similar style, but in different woods...because each has a slightly different character, with regards to feedback.

I can honestly say that unless something really dire happens in my personal reality, I will be carrying these cues for a long time to come...as each has it's own 'story' that makes them intrinsically important to me. Besides, I find that selling cues can be very stressful...am I gonna get what I need out of a sale?...is it gonna get to the buyer okay?...is the buyer gonna be happy with their purchase?...etc.

Lisa =====> not a flipper.

My mild sickness makes me more of a "flopper" it seems. I am lucky to break even in most cases when I purchase a cue & sell it. I usually lose a few bucks it seems.

But, everyday I lose a few bucks of cigs, or a beer or two, or even a cup of coffee & a donut in the morning and damn it, cues make me happy.

Oh hell, I build cues. I can, have & often do build a cue that is perfect for me, the magic cue. But like any cue nut, I get tired of it soon enough & get another. It's nothing for anybody else to ***** about or spectate the reasoning behind what I do with my own stuff.

Fact is, my mood is the dictator of whether a cue is perfect for me or not. If I love it for a while & then just aint feelin' it anymore, i'll diss it & build another that fits who I am & how I feel at the moment. It's nobody's business but mine. It was no different before I built cues, except for then I was buying & selling cues instead of building them.

I'm not sure why when people change cues that they previously loved is a big deal or confusing for anybody else. Being human is changing. It doesn't have to be justified & it doesn't need to be figured out. It is what it is. As was said, cues are cool & obviously people love them.

Threads like this are what confuse me. Why do people feel the need to understand & speculate the reason other people do the things they do, that has absolutely no bearing or concern to them? Not being a dick, just don't get it. Why can't things just be what they are?

I agree that there is a sort of "searching for a magic wand" or "quest for the sword in the stone" quality to cue hunters and traders, but focusing on just that is a little... mean.

Some people love cues- we're all a little guilty of that, but I mean some people really LOOOOOVE cues. The beauty, workmanship, rarity, quality... All by itself, you've got a quiet hoarder rubbing his hands together in glee over every acquisition. He has cues lined somewhere special with museum lighting on them.

And then some people LOOOOVE wheeling and dealing. All by itself, you've got a guy who will see just anything and mark it up and move it on. He loves Craigs list, thrift stores, garage sales, ebay, pawnshops, and cares the most for the profit on each widget moved- even if he had to hold on to the item for years to move it. This guy has a garage filled with crap waiting to turn a profit.

But put those two together and you've got bona fide collectors who are happy to spend hours discussing points, wood choices, ages, blue books, and who will get together for long learning and bartering sessions. Those guys will part with something to get something else to share and discuss, and on hard times or in big desire for something else, will trade yet again- totally enjoying every interaction and steamy- breathed daydream over the new item. And they'll have cue shows and make personal connections with the cuemakers and each other. Think gun collectors of the pool world.

Me, I just want a watery bink to lob a magic sword at me and I will never miss again (thinking Monty Python's Holy Grail here).

I'm sure that everyone tries to find the perfect cue, but I don't think that is possible. One day you might like it, one day you might not. Asides from a collection being a great investment, this allows that person the opportunity to mix things up a bit by bringing out a different playing cue to match how they're feeling.

You get a GREENIE!!!!!!

I also shoot traditional archery. I see guys who will drop $2K on a bow thinking it is going to make them a crack shot. I see the same thing in pool with cues. Some guys think they can buy themselves a better game.

Somewhere along the way, I picked up a OB1 in a 5/16-14. I have heard it was a pretty good shaft and I was shooting mostly with a 314 at the time. I have two cues it will fit (Falcon and Black Boar), so I tryed it on both cues. To my dismay, I didn't like how the cues hit with that shaft...at all. So back in the case it went. Sometime later, I run into a buddy who was playing with a Jacoby. I asked if I could try the OB1 on his cue...sure. One of the best hitting and playing cue I have ever had my dickbeaters on...bar non! Couldn't believe it! Everything I attemped on the table was executed to near perfection. He was heading to Texas for a training class for a couple months and told me to play with it while he was gone (we are pretty good buds and he knows I take care of my stuff...), that was a big mistake. I played with that cue as much as I could and knew it was the "perfect" combo for me. I have been playing for around 36 years or so. He played with it but didn't really get the same results I did. It killed me to hand it back to him. I offered to sell him the OB1 but he wasn't really interested in it. I did make him swear that if he ever decided to let the cue go, he was to contact me first, no if ands or buts.

It made me a firm believer in experimenting with different butts/shafts to see what you come up with, it sure can't hurt. If your like me and have quite a few cues, you may already own the "perfect" cue for you. You just haven't discovered the correct combo for you.

Once again I feel taken....

So I guess that cue I bought doesn't have any magic after all. I thought I was just using the wrong magic word? Man i spent alot of money on that cue for nothing.

Just like milk does a body good, I drunk enough milk I should be 8ft tall and 500lbs of solid rock...i should look like a bull, but I'm no bigger than a sheep. Strong like horse, but size of sheep.:p

WHY do these things happen to me?
