I know there have been a lot of comments and thoughts in the past about how women cannot hang with the men in pool... This may be NPR related, but today I watched on TV, the PBA (bowling) Tournament of Champions won by Kelly Kulick (a woman). She beat quite a few men champions all week, and today beat Chris Barnes (a PBA Hall of Famer) and by a score of 265-195. History was made in the sports world today, and I am glad to have witnessed it.

My Aunt Sophie was six-foot-three, weighed 287 pounds, and was as mean as a bucket of snakes. She used to beat Uncle Harry at least twice a week.
In an odd coincidence, they had a daughter who grew up to became a professional bowler. What's your point?

The point in this is the "FIRST" time a woman has "EVER" won a PBA Tournament...and it was the PBA Tournament of Champions in Las Vegas. Great day in Bowling and for the women in the sport!!!

Thanks for your input and validation. Yes, not only was it a men's PBA tournament, it was a major and prestigious tournament as well. I think it was also a great day for all women in sports, period.

Major accomplishment

Devils advocate here......this should not be cause for undue celebration, yes congratulations are in order, but this should be viewed as inevitable. Women can compete with men, and will be victorious over men in competition at an ever increasing pace.....parity of ability is becoming a reality.....perhaps even more so in pool.....just my $.02.......Dan

my mom beat up her first husband...lol. it's funny but %100 true

There you go, you've just proved my point, and that is, there is no point. You folks are all making a mountain out of a mole hill. The next thing you know dogs will be sleeping with cats and the entire civilized world will be in chaos. I'm going to go make me a sandwich.

When i used to argue with some pro bowlers that i knew about what game was harder to play . Bowling or pool . I could always end the discussion by telling the pin boys that " you can teach a monkey to bowl " they never had a rebuttal to that one .

the fact is that people underestimate these women. people keep thinking it's about girls playing pool but these aren't girls. they're women!

Yup.

Thanks

especially today i never underestimate the skill of women players. there are more playing and doing the right things - lessons, practice, tournaments. i know a lot of guys who are pissed quite often when my girlfriend beats them in a local tournament we go to. they treat her light and i've taught her well. step and play the same no matter who's on the other side.

A rose by any other name would smell as sweet; or is that a bit too condesending? I don't know why you all are so jammed up about this. It was bowling for crissakes. Now, if it was the Pillsbury Bake-off, then you'd have something.

You know, I 've just been thinking. I'm probably going to loose a buttload of reps on this deal, so hows about I say congratulations to the 'Lady' who won the bowling tournament and we call it a draw.

Just curious why is it that women are allowed in mens tournaments but men are not allowed in womens tournaments? Men and women being equal and all i dont understand the seperation.

I've played Karen Corr, Kelly Fisher and Julie Kelly. All three of these women can play on any level with men. Don't kid yourself thinking they can't play on that level.

so for the cash your telling me karen corr can beat django alex and co? I have taken a 10 year break from pool so not really that up on womens pool these days but i know 10 yrs ago it wasnt really close.
