I don't get it.

got to give Matt and Jay some weight

I have to give Matt and Jay's opinions considerable weight but I have to admit I'm just against the idea of adding anything to the playing surface, I don't like the stick-on dots.

Can somebody with a Magic Rack and a set of calipers or a mike tell us how thick it is? How does the finish on it compare to playing cloth?

I still think adding anything to the playing surface is evil but I hate all of the racking game playing as much as anybody too.

When Jay types, people listen (or sumtin like that).

I love it. I've been using the same magic rack for @ 8 months. In all my games not one opponent has come to dislike it. In the 3% of breaks where a ball remains on it, we always mark the ball and remove the rack. IT'S CAKE and it's second nature. Not an issue.

Seems the overwhelming # of detractors on this thread have never even tried it. Regardless of your initial impressions, I'd suggest you try it for a couple hour session and then offer a fully informed review.

Sorry, but just watch the 16 tables at the US Open at any given time. Someone said "learn how to rack" - well it's not that simple. There's so much time burned racking and bit*hing over racking, it's tiresome and takes away from the game.

And the mechanics that gain an unfair advantage be damned.
Magic Rack = a more honest game

10 ball is the game and magic rack is the bomb IMO. 9 ball is great too, but it IS so predictable. It's good to use if you like packages and have a good seat.

Please, just try it, pool will be better for it IMO. (and no, I don't sell or gain from my thumbs up on what I believe is the best pool invention of the decade).

ps: they used it for the World 10 ball in the Phillipines this year and on numerous other non-US tour stops. Seems the US is behind on this one. I have an opinion as to why, but that's a different controversial topic.

been said about the nine and ten

It sounds like it would be a good thing. But, I have a few questions... It has been stated that the 9 ball seldom even moves, and that 93% of the time there is no ball left on the rack. Which is it?? If the 9 doesn't move, it's still in the rack, right???

2nd- And, this has already been asked and not answered, how do you transport a piece of paper without wrecking it??

Neil,

I note that it has been said that the money ball rarely moves playing nine or ten ball. That means that either you have to mark and move the rack nearly every game or you had just as well glue it down to the table like a spot because it will be on the table until the money ball is shot.

The magic rack is .004 inch thick and is nothing more than a piece of paper. It is very rare to have a ball come to rest on it too. I think its the double nutz when it comes to racking becasue it makes a good rack every time.

The magic rack is hollow, its a triangle with holes punched into the middle of the 1/2 inch wide triangle. So when the 10 doesn't move its not resting on the rack.

We keep ours at the bar. I think you could roll it up into a plastic cylender.

How can both of these statements be true?

Look at the video I posted a couple posts ago. The MR's 9 ball rack is a diamond shape that has film like thin paper along the PERIMETER only (the interior space is open), with notched holes in it. The 10 ball rack is similarly "open", just a different shape.

Thanks for the info.

Neil, I'd be interested to hear your review of it if you do play one.

Also Patrick Johnson, genomachino, Hu, Schmidt, Mills and other afficienados ;)

Seems Magic Rack has not reached a ton of pool halls yet, at least in the US.

Google is our friend.

Here's a video of a 9 ball break and a 10 ball. Neil, your question will be answered in it (btw, in 10 ball the 10 ball rarely moves much unless it's kicked. In 9 ball, that is not the case, the predictability is mainly in the same side wing ball and 1 ball.)

Thanks for posting these videos. The only thing is getting used to putting the balls in place.

The second video is our buddy Brandon Crockett making that nice run out.

Is it true that you are now a "promoter" of Magic Ball Rack?
Do you get the racks free for life? (of course, the way they last, you may only get a couple!)

Ha Ha! ;)

BTW, Wayne is the guy that gave the regulars at Breakers his only Magic Rack. He didn't know he wouldn't be getting anymore for a while and that someone else would get exclusive rights to sell 'em in our area. Thanks Wayne. Better luck next time. :) ;)

Sob...., but it is a pleasure to see you and your buddies enjoying the Magic Ball Rack !

4 breaks, 2 9 ball and one ball made, 2 10 ball and 1 ball made. Plus having to move the "rack" from under a ball at times. No thanks. I'll stick with my Delta 13. Not worth the impending arguments during cash matches.

I will do a video later and post. They are not hitting the ball good and way to hard with this rack. I can make a ball most of time. I will see if I can do a 3 or 4 pack and post it.

Another thumbs down from someone that doesn't seem willing to even try it. Hey, that's your right and you echo the sentiment of many.

But how many people that have tried it for a good number of racks have given a thumbs down?

crickets...
