Here we go again.

I am sure the World Team Championship is a great tournament and all.

BUT, the price money have been reduced from 400K to 300K, apparently since 18 teams cancelled and TV decided to drop out..

Guaranteed money anyone?

18 Teams canceled? That was probably after the rumors that the event was on shaky ground. If not why would they cancel out of huge money event?

BTW- Where are the brackets for this thing?

EDIT- Found them.

I have a bad feeling about how this one is going to end up. Just call it a hunch.

I thought about coming up with the money to finance this event. Then I remembered I'm broke.

Wouldn't they have a contract with TV? Maybe they did and it called for a minimum amout of teams. Johnnyt

Has a pool promotor ever been murdered or at least have the $hit beat out of him or her? Johnnyt

Don't forget they also schedualed the event to conflict with the DCC as well and caused alot of international players to skip the event all together and caused alot of people who "were" there to skip the 9-ball event.

A huge pile of awesome all the way around.

I wonder if the WPA realizes how NEGATIVE the publicity really is for them when they pull crap like this? I personally don't like what they did, knowing full well they were causing a conflict with the DCC and going right ahead anyhow. I simply become less and less interested in supporting anything they do when they decide to play these stupid and petty games that they should have grown out of after high school.

Heya WPA, your ignorant actions are counterproductive, you are not helping yourself with all the crap and when a viable alternative for international pool arises from a promotion with the proper support structure in place you are going to regret not having been a honorable and positive force in pool that worked with people for the betterment of the sport as a whole. In that case I and the thousands of others who actively support and discuss pool would have your back, instead you are simply ostrasizing yourself from the people you need to have on your side. Stupid move, seriously.

Eureka

Hey, we shouldnt say that WPA ignore the problem with lack of payments from the promoters. They have been very pro-active about this lately. The solution is simple:

They have now incorporated in the contract each player has to sign with them before the event the following:

"WPA cannot in any way be held legally responsible should the promoter fail to pay out parts of or all of the pricefunds scheduled".

Sign the contract or you are not allowed to play. See, no problem anymore!

Jay's Hunch

I have a bad feeling about how this one is going to end up. Just call it a hunch.
If Jay has a hunch about this, you can bet the events gonna fall flat!! I am sure Jay has had his dealings with the WPA,as I have in the past. Organizing an event on this scale and this format should have been set in place with the funds, and media contracts,at least 1-2 years in advance. How much did the TV provider pay the WPA and the Tournament organizer for withdrawing? If 400K was advertised and guaranteed, why now 300K?Mark Griffin voiced some concerns about an early rumor that the event was cancelled. An altered event can be worse than a cancelled event sometimes. This a question of whether or not the US Pool Players and Sponsor Businesses should even care about World Events. The World Team Format sounds like a marketing tool for the WPA and the Olympics. Forget that, let's concentrate on building an American foundation for developing pool. I feel bad for any of the Americans who traveled there, even though as pool players, they probably had a great time, when it should be financially lucrative along with being competitive.

18 teams pulled out? God how many teams were scheduled?

How many were left?

The banner on the WTC website says 50 nations. In fact 43 teams participated so this was only a 14% shortfall on the anticipated number.
So why was the prize fund cut by 25%.

Peter (CEP), do you know the answer?
