A sellers responsibility.........?

Jun, sounds good. Hopefully the cue gets returned to sender and I'll just refund the payment minus my costs and we'll play some.QUOTE]

You still don't quite get it yet? If that cue comes back to you, it is not okay for you to keep any of the shipping costs incurred. Right or wrong you are equally to blame for the transaction going sour. Part of that responsibility is you refunding him the exact same amount he gave you. If you really wanted to take the high road this would be standard for you.

I think you are digging yourself a bigger and bigger hole. We do cue deals here in the multiple thousand dollar range. I've done deals where I sent a Money Orders for over $2k over night and got the cue the next day. How do you think that happens? It comes from people having stellar reputations and being able to trust the person they are doing business with.

People will remember as much about you as youd like them to remember about gatorjoe. My advice would be to send him a decent PM, give him your number or something and try to talk this out like gentlemen. I doubt he wants the money anymore than you want that cue at this point. Find that middle ground and have him post in this thread when the situation gets resolved. This will get your credibility back where it needs to be and his as well. Work it out like gentlemen.

yes there is, it's actually common sense. the tracking number is proof that u shipped it. u have a responsibility to the buyer to prove that u shipped it. simply saying that u did is not enough.

just like u didnt trust him enough to ship the cue immediately, he has no reason to trust u enough to just take ur word for it that it's shipped. u made it worse by not providing the tracking number when asked...that just makes the transaction fishy.

also consider that by ur own admission this is ur first sale so obviously the guy is a bit skittish about it.

please stop saying that u never got a tracking number for anything u bought on the board, that has nothing to do with anything. just cuz u didnt want one doesnt mean other people dont.

I agree, I should have just given him the tracking number. I blatently did not give it to him out of spite.

And that my man is the whole crux to this.I send sellers my personal check and they ship me whatever with a tracking #.They know I'm good and i know they are also.Even if someone doesn't ask for the tracking # it is just a courtesy and the right thing to do.You should apologize to buyer and so called friend. This whole mess could of been avoided.

You made a poor choice.

Is there an unwritten rule saying the seller MUST provide the tracking number?

If there is, Ive never gotten a tracking number for a single item Ive bought on here.

Thank you for your post.
YES THERE IS AN UNWRITTEN RULE.
TRACKING NUMBER IS FOR THE BENEFIT OF BOTH PARTIES. :yeah:
Remember he put up the money for you to provide tracking and secured delivery as well as the purchase. It is part of the selling process for you to do so.
He might have wanted to try and be home to accept delivery.
What's so hard about sending him the #.
I can not believe you come to us crying when you acted in such an unreasonable fashion by not providing the number when he first ask for it.:(
You came on here trying to flame and discredit him. IMHO you have done a better job of doing that to yourself. Good Luck, you will need it now that you have caused yourself to be engulfed in a paypal dispute. :sorry:

Duhhhhhh

I agree, I should have just given him the tracking number. I blatently did not give it to him out of spite.

Dan, If you're coming to London this weekend, I'll look you up and give you a slap on the back of your head cause I think you need it for this one LOL

Walter

PS I'll give you an introduction to CANADA POST 101

There is no way you can spin not giving the Tracking Number as correct. Whatever falls from that is 100% on you imho.

I think I will be there next week but not this weekend.

I do not need a slap on the back of the head. I was furious with the constant harassment and I didnt send him the tracking number because of it. I admitted that openly.

If ANYONE has ever had to deal with literally 100 PMs over $275 and put up with it without getting frustrated or irritated, kudos to you. I couldnt do it.

Thank your for your post,

I agree 100% that I could have sent the tracking number as soon as I had it, I was frustrated and fed up at that point and really just wanted the cue to arrive (which it probably did today) and be done with it all.

I am glad your selling/buying future is now safer that you dont have to deal with me since I am OBVIOUSLY bad business. ;) I guess paying all the time, on time is not the right thing to do.

Well since you asked...

Alexander Graham Bell.

At whatever point you could no longer stand the relentless pressure
of unsolicitated PMs, you could have sent him your telephone info
and/or asked for his phone number.

ALL this could have been cleared up in a 5 min, or less conversation.

Why did you not give him the tracking number again?

Dale

You asked for feedback so don't get upset when I say that it seems to me that you are at fault:

- Didn't ship to a verified Paypal address (if they used a friend's account, you should have had them add their friend's address to their Paypal account or shipped to them)

- Waited to ship to see if buyer renigged on Paypal payment (shouldn't have sold it to him if you distrusted him this much -- I always pay immediately and it would have pi$$ed me off if you did that to me).

- Didn't EVER provide buyer with tracking number (a courtesy to do so immediately after shipping and VERY bad after being requested to do so).

--------------------------------------------------

For yucks let me tell you about my last cue purchase last month:

- Purchased a cue listed on the AZ for sale section

- Paid full asking price and sent Paypal payment within minutes

- Sent a PM asking them to ship either to my PO Box (if by USPS) or to my home address (if by UPS/FedEX, etc. -- since we do NOT get USPS mail delivery at home)

- Cue sent to my home address by USPS (and subsequently returned). Note, seller did NOT send the cue to the address specified in my verified Paypal address (it includes both my PO Box AND home address as two separate line items so that regardless of how sent it will get to me).

- Seller PMs me with my home address only and asks why returned?

- I resend a copy of my original PM with all correct info specifically stating that if sent by USPS to send to my PO Box. If I had gotton a tracking number and the address it was sent to, I would have let them know of immediately of the screwup and to expect the package to be returned.

- Seller reships to my PO Box (and still doesn't provide a tracking number)

- Cue does not arrive in a reasonable time

- I ask seller for tracking number

- Finally get a tracking number along with comment that this transaction has been more trouble to him than all others

- Go to post office with tracking number. Seller had shipped to wrong PO Box (i.e., 543 and not 643 as I provided).

- Fortunately the other PO Box holder had not yet signed for the package (in which case we would have had no idea as to what had happened and I assume seller would have become disgusted with me at this point in time). Fortunately, ours is a small post office and the clerk was able to find the package given my description of what I thought it should look like.

BOTTOM LINE:

(1) If the seller had promptly provided me with tracking info (including the address that they shipped to) either time they shipped it, I could have immediately let them know that there was a problem. Instead, I pay immediately and am told that my transaction is the most problematic one that they have had. Furthermore, seller neglects to ever give me any positive iTrader feedback (either for immediate payment or for being very patient and putting up with all the delays and screwups and not saying anything negative to the seller at any time through out the whole process).

(2) I didn't leave negative iTrader feedback for the above transaction that I had because the seller promptly communicated with me when I PMed them, I'm a patient person and I understand that inadvertent errors do happen. But, D_Lewis, if you had treated me the way you did your seller I would have given you my first negative rep/iTrader ever.

D-Lewis, I apologize for being overly direct. I should have written in terms of best practices for future sales. Please reconsider my post in that light.

The buyer has the tracking number and has yet to contact me back. He has been online today as well as yesterday after the tracking number was posted.

Thanks for all the comments, I understand that I was in the wrong with not sending the tracking number and I can admit that. I did it 100% out of spite and frustration with the previous messages.

I am not overly sensitive, I knew you meant to use the shipping/selling tips for future sales.

Thanks again for your posts.

From payPal:

What if the buyer asks me to ship to an address other than the address on the transaction details page?

If you ship to a different address, you will not be eligible for coverage. If the buyer wants you to ship to a different address, we recommend that you ask the buyer to resubmit the payment with the new shipping address.

Curious, in the three iTrader feedbacks that you have so far. How many of those sellers sent you the tracking number after you paid? Totally curious.

Ive bought from probably the biggest seller on here, paid and waited. There was a tracking number on the package, I didnt ask for it and they didnt bother sending it. Its called trust.

Just stating a fact, not looking for aything. I trusted my sellers enough to wait for my item to arrive, I didnt send them countless private messages, I didnt get my friends to harass them also and when my item didnt arrive within less than two weeks on an international shipment, I didnt file a claim with paypal.

oh so now i see. you being in the wrong is corrected because i only have three itrader records. as i stated before - every one gave me the number. and of the 300 tansactions i've done on ebay every one of those as well. giving that number is standard operating procedeure. look i told you i'm pretty much on your side - i think the only thing you did wrong was not give the tracking number. if you had done that half of this wouldn't have happened. and the heart of the matter....you flat out said you thought this guy was shady. now you are on here looking for some sort of validation. sorry, but that's how this all looks. oh and lastly, that thing you called trust......i don't give that shit out to anyone that hasn't earned it. especially not when my money is involved

if i paid you for something, then after more than two weeks, you wouldnt even give me a tracking number of the shipment, i would assume you were ripping me off.

there is no reason NOT to give the buyer the shipping number.

Trust, but verify! Dan Lewis was upset due to all the PM's he received from the buyer. I wonder how many he would have received if he had been forthcoming with the tracking information. Like so many others on here, I would immediately become suspicious if someone refused to give me a tracking number on a supposedly shipped item that I had already paid for. I guess that's just human nature. It only took Mr. Lewis 40 odd posts to finally realize that.

I have shipped dozens of books to Canada and it normally takes 8-10 days to arrive. About like shipping to Europe. Of course my books are only a $20 item, so if one were to get lost it wouldn't be the end of the world. But close :grin-square:

One trick I have learned to expedite the process of getting through Canadian customs is to list the item as a "gift". Somehow this one simple thing makes the whole process go more smoothly and much faster. Probably saves 2-3 days on the Canadian side of the border.

Do I HAVE to give the buyer the tracking number? Ive bought a great number of things from the board and never once asked for it.
Do I HAVE to put up with constant harassment?
Do I HAVE to continue communication after the item has shipped when there is nothing I can do from my end to speed or delay shipment?
Do I HAVE to put up with 'friends' messaging me even though Ive already shipped the item?

Please help!

Were you also the one who turned the mans rep to red?
Remind me to never expect you to be a responsible seller and provide proof that the item was mailed.
You owe the man an apology for soiling his rep.
The chargeback is your own fault.

First I want to thank hangemhigh for the red Rep and then I want to say at the moment I am playing pool so I will post all the pm's between me and him when I get to a computer but until then ask your selves would I post all of them if I was hiding something or trying to scam some one and if I was scaming some one y wouldn't I go for something more than 275 I make that in a day and a half its not the amount that I was scared of losing it was the principal I asked for a tracking number he refused so I told him that if I didn't get one I would contact paypal he told me if I felt I needed to do that then to go ahead I waited 3 days no tracking number so I did what I said that's when all this started so if any one wants to. See the pm's I. Will gladly post all starting with first contact
