I have been going over to a friends house that I’ve known from childhood in NY. He has a 9’ GC2. After playing for about 20 hours in the last 3 weeks it has become apparent that I’ll never be any good on a 9’ table again. His Dad, a very good shortstop in his day, that I’ve known for years also said that I try playing the 9 like I play the BB. He said he never saw anyone play so good on a BB and so horrible on a 9’ table. Ouch, that hurt my ego lol. He said I get away with using all kinds of spin on a BB but can’t get away with that on a 9’. I do alright playing 14.1 on the 9’ but the rotation games I’m no more than a “C” player.

So I’m finished with the big tables for good. I’m not ruining my BB game to try and switch to big tables at almost 70 years old. Hurts a little because at one time I could play on both well. Johnnyt

Oh well, at least you have a barbox game. I pretty much suck at pool no matter what size the table :o. You ought to feel good that you have any kind of game at all at your age. Most people are lucky to be able to do anything that requires deep thought process coupled with physical agility at age 70.

Stay fit, stay "young", and the best of shootin' to ya Johnnyt !!!

Johnny, I think your comfort zone has just shrunk a little, that's all. I know how discouraging it can be - it's not like you've given up pool. You just haven't had a lot of time on 9-footers recently. The mind can play funny tricks on you at times and if you stick with it, I'm certain it'll come back.

I went through a bad transition a year or so ago when I started playing 14.1 again. For the longest time, I simply struggled with shots that were 100% routine in 9ball. Eventually, things clicked and although I haven't done anything monumental yet (by my standards), I'm certain I'll set new personal records in the near future.

How does Dad play?

You gonna let a 90 year old shortstop fad you.

Tell his Dad to post up!:bash: :D:D

Johnnyt how did your buddy do against you on your bar box? Johnnyt I have never meet you but I bet you could hold your own on that bar box with just about any body. Man that would mean allot to me. An by the way I bet if you had a 9ft. table you in time would become superman. Skip :)

im a bar box player myself. others who've seen me play on a 9 footer seem to think my game is strong there but i totally disagree. i live an hour from the nearest public 9 foot table and get no practice time on them. (have a 8 foot at home).

on a bar box, you get used to not moving the cue very far. a lot less important to play 3 and 4 rail position shots too.

Shorten the table in your mind--unless it is a long shot just play the cue ball to the object ball works for me and I'm 66--- think about it the direction really doesn't change.

Thank you for the kind words. I'd probably choke to death playing real good BB players for anything over a $100 a set now. Not the way I want it all to end...choking on the cash. Johnnyt

Every now and then I'll go down the road and play on the 9 foot Gold Crown 3 and I'll admit I have a little bit of trouble playing on them but I've found that I never give up .

Now I play on a 8 ft at home and have no troubles but when I get that extra foot of play I have to adjust . You'll get the hang of if JohnnyT .

Johnnyt I'm a fan of your posts , in reading them I get the sense that you would never choke. An really we could get a great debate going on what is choking. Ya,Ya, Ya. An Johnnyt I'm 65 a c player but I tell people when they come to kick my butt on my oversize 8ft. they better bring there A game. Your friend in Lou. Ky. Skip :)

9ft table

I too am a BB player.MY best game is BB 8B but I very much enjoy 1P on the big table.

I would not completely give up playing on the 9' tables.I once went nearly 2 years without playing on a 9' and even my small table game suffered.IMO playing on a 7ft table won't help your 9ft table game but playing on the 9s does help the small table game.

I like to play in a weekly 9B tourney on the 9 footers just for practice.Once in a while I will donate and play in a larger tourney on 9' tables.I never match up 9B on the 9ft-er but I might try some 10B if the spot is right.

Johny from your past posts I gather your 8B strategy game needs a bit of work.Have you ever tried 1 pocket on a big table?

old people're funny.

I can feel your pain im a bb player to the max. Just because the closest public 9' table is 2 and a half hours away lol. When i do get the oppertunity to play on the big tables i notice my high english game is really lacking. On 7' tables i play a ton of low and stun shots. On the big tables there is more room for playing to the rails for position. Not to mention all the bb's around here use the cheap slow cloth, and all the 9's i go play on have samonis 860. Gl and hit'em straight
