Your #1 favorite wood?

This is just a thread for conversation I suppose. More so than for useful info I guess. If you guy had to choose just one wood to call your overall favorite, which would you have to say it is? Feel free to mention your second if you like.
I personally would have to say Cocobolo for #1

If I could only use one wood in my cues it would be Maple. If I could only use two woods in my cues I would choose Maple and Ebony.
 
I like the smell of cocobolo, the looks of alves and padauk, and I like how ebony cuts. On the other hand, I don't like working with lacewood. It seems to splinter like fiberglass.

I'm a big fan of BEM as evidenced by the amount I use in the majority of the cues I build.

However, as of late, I've taken an interest in the Rosewoods.
To that end though, I've been very fond of Kingwood for many years which is a true Rosewood. The hit is extraordinary. IMHO, one of the best hitting woods known. Some say it surpasses even Brazilian Rose.

I seen that kingwood cue you built for Mike D. Has a nice hit to it. My favorite wood is bubinga, you can get straight grained, figured or the crazy looking pommele bubinga which I love the looks of and it too hits nice and great toned.

Favorite wood is Madrone Burl...favorite cue combination would be Madrone Burl with Ebony points and Ivory inlays.
 
If I had to pick one, it would be maple.
After that it would be in order, rosewoods, coco and ebony.
 
I love well seasoned maples. Really like most rosewoods. Still have yet to meet a bocote cue that I did not love the play of! Gabon ebony may be my least fav from a purely asthetic standpoint, simply because I find it kinda boring. Like Macassor ebony much more.

Yes I have one I use often. FIREWOOD! lol:smile:

I am having a cue built by Dave Kikel.

I originally told him I wanted Macassor Ebony, and the "grainer" the better. He suggested African Blackwood, because of my desire to see grain and interesting wood.

I will post pictures when I get the cue, but expect it be outstanding.

I plan on the Kikel to be my new "player".
