Who's the best you ever played for the cash???

Probably Buddy Dennis so far as anything significant. We quit at a draw after about 5 days of playing (not non-stop). But we're talking ancient history here. 20 years ago Danny Harriman and I played about even - but a lot of water has been under that bridge too.

Then there was that unknown barefooted kid from N. Carolina that was an absolute wizard. And Shannon Daulton kicked my butt once. None of those guys could have handled me at snooker though.

Keith!

I got a call one night in about 2000 that "Grady" from the COM was in Meridian playing one of the best bar table players in the south on the bar table even.. I couldnt wait to go see the match so I headed up there to see what was going on...At that time I was still "green" behind the ears and I didnt realize that the whole point of him being in MS period was to get me and I could have just waited a day or so and he would have come to my pool room but me being the action "junkie" that I was I just rolled out to sweat the match... I watched them play for hours with Keith coming out like 2 sets loser... The guy he was playing beat everybody that came through for years even for 200 a set on the bar table in his home pool room.. Well I asked Keith for the 7 on the bar table in Hburg and without hesitation he agreed... The next day we played with the 7 and I got absolutely robbed! I think I got beat like 35 ahead playing 100 a game in like 3 hours.. Keep in mind that the week before that I had just robbed Jesse Bowman a 2500 set getting the call 7 on the bar box and we thought he was the best at the time... Needless to say Keith never played safe and spun the cue ball unbelievable on the bar table.. If he got hooked he just kicked it in like it was straight in! He also played the carum shot from anywhere.. He really played good... I wanted to keep playing but I was finally figuring out that these guys all played on a different level and they could win giving a ball spot at anytime... Keith and I have become friends over the years and we have a mutual friend that we are both very tight with.... People may not have new it but for about 7 or 8 years there was a 200 mile stretch down south that really had and produced some great action... Lil John Macias

Keith is the absolute best to sweat the action on...I really wish that I could remember the funny crap that he spouted non stop when he played. One that springs to mind is when he called out a railbird that was woofing for a side bet a "Bullsh*tasarous", tossed him a bank roll said count out what you want, per shot or game or match and lets go...

Well back in the day.....I use to match up pretty good. But there was this one kid....Blake...we called him blizzz. He was just good enough to keep my noise open. I never wanted to beat someone as much as blizzz.
I was pretty messed up back then and I'd been up for a few days. Blizzz busted me...I was maybe 18-19 I called my mom (my poor mom), I told her I had a great game (I was so jacked up) and I needed some money.
She could hear in my voice I was high. She made me a deal, she said she would come and give me $40 to play if I lost I had to go to her house. Of course I said "done". She came down Blake beat me in seconds...and my mom took me home (I was out of the her house by then) and she fed me told me to take a hot bath...and of course when I did as she asked...I was ready to get back to the pool room. However my mom figured as much and told me to lie down for a little while she was washing my clothes.
What a mom, she did see my life turn around before she passed away thankfully.

Great story and a freat Mom. I had one too and she rarely told me no to which I am ashamed, but she stayed long enough to see me beat a fesw of the demons.

Lady yo have come a long long way in your life andmade a tremendous turn around, I have doubt he would be very, very proud.

heck lady, it aint' so much how we started as how we ended up!

you are a credit to the game! Congratulations!

You played Cliff Joyner getting 9-8 in one pocket races to 4 for 500? Well I would not take 9-8 from Cliff playing one pocket... but I will play you in one pocket and I barely play the game. I'll donate to you sir.

Yah. Pretty sporty, that 9-8 win.

You have matched up with quite a few world beaters.

Lil John, you gotta spill the beans about this trip to tucson. Was the pool hall called pockets? Are you hispanic by chance? Were you traveling with an older gentelman? Please tell the story cause I think if the above questions are true, I watched you play my buddy Travis in 9 ball and you were laying it down good from what I saw. Afterwords Travis told me to be careful if I played you, cause you play real good. If you want just PM me about it. If anyone else knows the full story please PM me.

Best I ever played, Scott Frost getting the orange crush and lost 500. To this day i am disgusted that I lost like that

Played Billy "Cecile" Peav getting the 7, 8 and the breaks. After about 8 or 9 sets I was only down 2 sets. I was playing real good and breaking very well.

Played Doug Young getting the 7, went back and forth all day and eventually he came out winner in the last set. The set before that one he was up 8 to 2 in a race to nine and I came back and won that set, after that I was exhausted and it showed in the final set.

George Rothrock plays real good for the cash. Surprised the crap out of me.

Played Larry Price and Jesse Middlebrooks in tournies.

What? You couldn't do any better than break even with those chumps! lol

Good Shooting Chris!

The best gambler I ever played was Coach (Kieth Morgan)the year his running mate Reid Pierce won the US Open, he offered me the 4 and 5 wild playing 6ball for $20 a game. He was drinking long island iced tea by the picture and looked $hitfaced he rattled the 4 ball one game and I won one, two games later I gave him a fifty and he gave me back 40 instead of 30 and told a local he gave me an extra ten so he could get the whole fifty. I had one shot at a money ball in $200 and quit so he gave me a $20 to get me a drink and said tell you what we'll play some more and if you make a ball you win, I said that was what we just played no thanks.--Leonard

SVB was my partner in a super cheap 1P doubles game, we broke out even.

Played Sylver Ocha super cheap it was Triggers B-Day party and I was in the mood to play, $20/game

Played in a ring game at the Derby for the experience against Alex,SVB, JS, Louie Ulrich as i remember.

Played JA 3 times but no $$$

Efren offered me the 6 playing 9 ball, Man I wish I played that good thst it eould be a real game. We didnt play.

I have never played any top players for any real $$$, but I have played 5 or 6 more for free to warm them up for matches, or just practice.

Played Max Eberly, like I was betting the world, with a fair spot but no $$$.

Last but not least the mighty Jay Helfert, and yes he is u $250 on me +/-$50 over the past 3 years.

I was gonna tell one that happened in South Padre island a few years ago, but thought better of it! lewis

Years ago still living in Denver I had intrest inthis bar out in Aurora. My partner and I were into all sorts of activities and life seemed pretty good as the cash was rolling in.

There were 2 bar table in there and iwould take a shot at most anyone.

one day this real clean cut looking guy comes in and finally asks me to pplay some. I say"sure" and we play some %$50 9 ball. I played well enough to keep it somewhat close with some and on this dy I was holding my own pretty well, but just culdn't get rid of the feeling tha tthe worst was to come.

I pushed out on a 7 ball and this jacked up and fired a 7 ball on me that remainsthe best shot evr hit on me. My cue made noise coming apart as if someone had unscrewed it with an air wrench!

I walked the parking lot and saw a car with nebraska plate on it and as I walked back in, I was told I had a call and the person {won't mention any names} was kent taylor warning me John Shuput, Omaha John was in town and described him as I was string at him. I thanked Kent and said I would keep an eye out. Hanging up I was all smile realizing I had escaped the bullit!

I walkedover to Hohn and asked him where he was from and and he replied, Grand Island nebaraska. I said, "oh, you ever get over and play that Omaha John?" He says I have and hea gave me the 8 and beat me! I replied, a"int that huy a real *****?? John absolutley lost it as he jhust cracked up laughing!

John was a great guy and a great talent. health reason forced him to give the game up far too young.

Danny Diliberto....

I had just finished 3rd in a bar table 9 ball event back in 1990. It was a race to 7 format, no handicaps. I lost my 2nd match in a field of 124 players and found myself storming through the losers side and got in "dead punch". My last few matches I beat some very respectable players from the Phoenix area. Finally, I was playing in the semis against Terry Osborne and he was a monster in those days on the bar box. Reality sunk in and I don't think I made more than 2 balls the whole match. I lost 7-0, Terry was running out from everywhere.
Anyhoo...........I didn't let that get me down. I was playing the best pool of my life at the time and wanted to play more. I saw Danny Diliberto hitting balls in "The Pit", his usual playing table. I asked if he wanted to play some 9 ball and he replied "I don't like to play 9 ball much, how about some 1 pocket?" Hmmmm......I never played 1 pocket very much. I had watched guys play some and thought it was a very boring game at the time. Long story short......Danny offered me the break and 10-5. DAMN.......how do you turn that down? So...he racks em and I break em up 1 pocket style. Danny plays me safe and stuck to the cluster on his side.I kick at a ball, miss and he runs a few balls and sticks me to the stack again. I miss a tough bank and he runs out. There goes the first $20. I had a pocket full of cash, like usual in those days and wanted to play more pool. He racks em up and the same process plays out. After 4 straight games of either getting stuck in the middle of the stack or glued to a rail, I saw the writing on the wall. The best I did in any of those 4 games was getting 4 balls in my hole. I did the math in about a nano-second and decided I was in a bad game, DUH.
Danny did not want to adjust, I'm sure if I would play for more he would have though. Anyway, in that 4 games and losing only $80, I got one of the best lessons of my life.
