What is Borana Andoni's speed?

I also have a big problem with people like Wedge saying that KOD has done more to promote the sport than people such as the TAR crew and Mark Griffin have done. That is just asinine. I don't doubt that KOD has helped to promote the sport as much as they can, but TAR and Mark Griffin (as well as the others I've mentioned in this thread such as Greg Sullivan, Shannon Daulton and Jay Helfert) and light years ahead of any other group or organization when it comes to promoting pool. Mr. Nova

Demonstrates you're a member of what keeps holding pool back: little brains. I view Mark Griffin as the current hope to drag pool out of the mud but everything else you mention is pretty much crap. That is unless you think pool has in any way shape or form been successful in the slightest at becoming a popular sport to the mainstream in this country. Or a financially successful one. Or even one that can get on the lowest common denominator: cable television.

It's been a complete failure on both counts and has gone backwards from the days of even wide world of sports. So if that's successful promotion maybe you need to check in with some definitions of success.

Good stories are what can help pool. This is a good story. You should be thanking these people instead of belittling them. What has been called promotion of pool has not worked. It's now getting better with Mr. Griffin but to dismiss these women pool players as you have is about the stupidest thing you can do for pool. But then you're a legend.

The guy that obviously can't even figure out how to use the quote function on the forums is saying I have "little brains". Yeah, that makes sense.

Oh, and more people have agreed with me when it comes to this thread than have disagreed, so I guess we all have little brains.

And by the way, pool is on ESPN and ESPN2 quite often. Last time I checked, that was a cable network.

Great argument comeback Mr. Nova. You're not the sharpest crayon in the box are you?

You're the kind of person that makes me giggle. I throw out valid information and since you can't dispute the information you comeback at me with childish insults.

Thanks for the laughs!

I have never faulted anyone on KOD for anything. If you read all of my posts and really think about the premise of them they are all about the promotion that a league team is getting that no other league team has. I have complimented the entire team for winning the open team division last year more than once in this thread. I just don't get where you're team is so much more deserving than the teams that have won the exact same event in the many, many years before last. Or what about all the teams that have won the masters division? Shouldn't they get the same promotion that KOD has?

There are women that play just as good as JL. Are they making nearly half the money that she is?
That answers it all.

I have to ask. What have you done for our sport? Take all the time you want.

Exactly Jay.

Plus why care what a person's speed is? What does it matter? If you really want to know then ask them to play and find out on your own. As far as people saying they riding out their victory.... who cares? They won and people want to use that to drum up some publicity then so be it. Good for the game no matter how they play.

Sarah Rousey has been cut

After doin some thinking, I came to the conclusion that having Sarah, a WPBA pro, on our team might be a lil too much considering the Kiss Of Death girls have no idea how I play, let alone BillyChips/Fatboy/Watchez. Rest assure that the 4 of us are horrible. My new team of disco all stars would like to play team KOD. Big table, small table, 8 ball or nine ball, we will let you guys pick.

Without further adieu, the 2 newest members of Team disco!

Therapy bro, seek it!! lol

What an epic battle this will be! Even more hype than the legendary OMGWTF vs CubC match!

Let's get ready to rumbleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That really doesn't answer anything, but OK.

Good luck in Vegas.

It actually does answer something. If you market/promote yourself as JL did then it can be financially beneficial. There are women that play better than JL (AF) but who don't make nearly the money JL does in appearance fee's alone.

I've been in situations as far from pool as possible (NASCAR race for instance) where the topic of "what do you like to do" came up as small talk and when I mention that I enjoy playing pool, the response I get more times than not is "do you know the black widow?". The older gentleman at the race track worked for Mobil1 oil and the company had paid JL to come to a company party. The reason Mobil1 knew about JL was from the marketing & promotion she has done of herself.

But Jeanette Lee would never have been able to promote herself the way she does without winning all the title she has. She was on TV getting attention because of her play BEFORE she was on TV getting attention for anything else. I also guarantee she didn't make a magazine cover based on her looks alone before she made one for winning a pro tournament. Team KOD is doing everything backwards IN MY OPINION. From what I've gathered from this thread, none of them are above a mid-level amateur player but because a couple of them are above average looking they seem to think they should be getting all the attention that top level players do. Maybe they should work more on their pool game so that they can get recognized for their playing ability and not just their looks. Maybe instead of taking time out of their day to be part of a silly web series, or to get their picture taken, or to sign autographs, or host "challenge" matches when they are at tournaments, maybe they should spend that time practicing.

Again, I wish KOD nothing but success, but I am a strong believer that pool is a sport that respect should be earned based on how you play, not how you look and they should really take that into consideration.

Oh Jeanette was out there putting rubber to the road promoting herself long before she won an event. I was there.

If the pool world as a whole worked 1/4 as hard as Jeanette does to promote the game then we would be doing fine. If the BCA had worked 1/8 as much then we'd be much better off.

Every sport should be about performance first and looks second. But we all know that the "good looking" players in any sport get more attention.

Anna Kournikova need I say more?

These women however have done something, they have a title that belongs to them forever.

If they get on the cover of some mags then so be it. If they get publicity out of it then so be it.

If it was all about titles then the Luther Lassiter story would be playing on cable. Earl Strickland would be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. When it comes to pool the only thing that it's good for in the media world is filler and the more interesting the better. NYC Women Win - great for filler - five women five stories.....milk it.....some of them are "hot" - great even better milk it some more......

No sense to hate on them because they are getting some attention. It's not like they are lying about their ability and making shit up like some people out there who are promoting themselves as professional players.

I hope they manage to parlay their win into bigger and better things. Isn't that what we all dream of? Catching the wave and riding it all the way to the beach?

Will no one bet me that the team finals of the league events WILL NOT be broadcast this year. I bet that they won't for the 30th year. Any takers?

I have to ask. What have you done for our sport? Take all the time you want. Jay

Clever argument Jay. I have personally had no impact on pool if that's what you wanted to know. (I"ve spent a lifetime making impacts in other segments of the economy.) Although neither has 99 percent of the people here on this forum. Jay, that's because it's a forum and people get to express their opinion. If you have an argument make it.

I understand that you're one of the pool/gambling insiders and have worked hard at your job. I appreciate hard work. And that all the insiders spend a lot of time congratulating each other on how much they've helped the sport of pool. And all get together to slap down people who have opinions that don't agree with theirs. Or jump to the defense of another that someone may offer constructive criticism to. The main argument being What Have You Done? That really moves the state of pool forward.

I think you deserve credit for where pool is now as a sport.

Is your next argument going to be I can give you the 7. Maybe you all should spend less time defending your legacy and look at ways to get out of the basement. Again Mr. Griffin's actions sees to show he works hard at moving forward, not looking backward.

Thank you for thoughts

Hi everyone, this is Emily Duddy from KOD.

I want to thank everyone for any feedback they've posted. All publicity is good publicity. I speak for myself, although I'm sure my teammates agree, that we truly appreciate those that know us and have stood up for us during this discussion.

The fact is we are all 110% dedicated to the sport we love and on improving our games. We are all heavily involved in the pool scene, ranging from running leagues and pool tours, to running websites, writing articles and blogs, giving lessons to children, and promoting charity events. On top of these things we compete nonstop in NYC and a number of other places. In the end we love pool, play well and are just being ourselves.

We all practice diligently and whenever we have the time between working our busy jobs. We put our money and energy into playing and travelling to as many tournaments as possible.

To respond to BET'S last post (forgive me as this is one of my first posts and don't know how to pull quotes)- All of us our working to improve our games regularly, compete on the JPNEWT (one of the toughest Women's Regional Tours in the country) and have beaten tough WPBA pros along the way.

Personally, I've worked hard for the past 6 years travelling to qualify for the WPBA. I've worked in 4 different pool halls, managed one full-time where I ran tournaments and leagues, and I have countless dollars invested in my game. I moved from Northern California to NYC in 2007, after graduating college, because of the level of competition in the pool scene and with the hopes of improving my game enough to compete with the best.

I'm proud to say I qualified for the WPBA this past February 2010 at Hard Times Billiards through the Regional Tour Championship. I finished 5th-8th out of the top 64 regional tour players and earned my Pro Tour card for the Classic Tour of this year. I played in the San Diego Classic finishing 33rd-48th, being my first Pro event it was a tremendous learning experience and I feel I will only get stronger. I've been practicing non-stop and hope to continue to do well and improve my game while on tour.

You have no idea how much heart, diligence, class, and determination each member of KOD possesses. That is why we are getting attention, because we work hard and are graceful doing it. For all of us on KOD it is about playing the best pool we can. If we happen to be marketable, that is who we are.

I might be the first on KOD to get on the WPBA, but the rest of my team work hard and have more heart and natural talent than you can imagine. They all play close in speed with many women on tour. I have played dozens of WPBA players over the last 6 years, and have watched the rest play, and have known the games of KOD for the past 3 years. Their games are progressing everyday cause of time they sacrifice, I cannot speak of the desire of my friends, but if their goal is to make it on Pro Tour they will succeed.

I suggest BET to do your homework before you make broad statements about mid-level amateurs and practice regimens.

Again for those of you who contributed positivity, thank you for your words of encouragement and hopes for success. We will focus on being ourselves, continuing to work hard, but most importantly enjoying the game we adore.

For the rest of the feedback, thanks for your opinion and interest!

I wish you all the best as well!

There is one big thing that I think many people are missing about these girls. They are not just pretty and happen to have won a team championship. They are all very educated and smart business women, that is really what sets them apart. All of them have professional jobs and are very articulate women.

NYGrind promotes their team because NYCGrind covers everything in pool around NYC and these girls happen to be a big part of the NYC pool scene. Gail helps run the Predator Tour, all the girls play on the WPBA regional tours out there and one earned her Q card for the WPBA this year. You will notice that a lot of what you see on NYCGrind that is about KOD is SPONSOR stuff, not just articles about them. Advertisements or episodes that sponsors created and NYCGrind is displaying.

I can't speak to all of the promotions and deals these girls are getting but I can speak about the Poison KOD episodes. All of the girls are heavily involved with the Predator/Poison brands either through the Predator Tour and/or at big events like SBE and BCA Vegas. They volunteer to help at the booths and play challenge matches, etc. which draws business to their booth. Poison decided to do this video project with the girls, they sought out KOD for this, not the other way around.

None of these girls are out there claiming to be better than anyone else or barking at people so it really irritates me when people start talking about how they don't deserve this because they don't play better than this person or that person. They are all incredible women that ALL pool players should be happy to have involved in the pool industry and should be proud to have them represent our sport in mainstream media.

Kudos to Borana for stepping up and playing. Borana is pretty feisty too so don't take her for granted in this one.
