Hi everyone, this is Emily Duddy from KOD.
I want to thank everyone for any feedback they've posted. All publicity is good publicity. I speak for myself, although I'm sure my teammates agree, that we truly appreciate those that know us and have stood up for us during this discussion.
The fact is we are all 110% dedicated to the sport we love and on improving our games. We are all heavily involved in the pool scene, ranging from running leagues and pool tours, to running websites, writing articles and blogs, giving lessons to children, and promoting charity events. On top of these things we compete nonstop in NYC and a number of other places. In the end we love pool, play well and are just being ourselves.
We all practice diligently and whenever we have the time between working our busy jobs. We put our money and energy into playing and travelling to as many tournaments as possible.
To respond to BET'S last post (forgive me as this is one of my first posts and don't know how to pull quotes)- All of us our working to improve our games regularly, compete on the JPNEWT (one of the toughest Women's Regional Tours in the country) and have beaten tough WPBA pros along the way.
Personally, I've worked hard for the past 6 years travelling to qualify for the WPBA. I've worked in 4 different pool halls, managed one full-time where I ran tournaments and leagues, and I have countless dollars invested in my game. I moved from Northern California to NYC in 2007, after graduating college, because of the level of competition in the pool scene and with the hopes of improving my game enough to compete with the best.
I'm proud to say I qualified for the WPBA this past February 2010 at Hard Times Billiards through the Regional Tour Championship. I finished 5th-8th out of the top 64 regional tour players and earned my Pro Tour card for the Classic Tour of this year. I played in the San Diego Classic finishing 33rd-48th, being my first Pro event it was a tremendous learning experience and I feel I will only get stronger. I've been practicing non-stop and hope to continue to do well and improve my game while on tour.
You have no idea how much heart, diligence, class, and determination each member of KOD possesses. That is why we are getting attention, because we work hard and are graceful doing it. For all of us on KOD it is about playing the best pool we can. If we happen to be marketable, that is who we are.
I might be the first on KOD to get on the WPBA, but the rest of my team work hard and have more heart and natural talent than you can imagine. They all play close in speed with many women on tour. I have played dozens of WPBA players over the last 6 years, and have watched the rest play, and have known the games of KOD for the past 3 years. Their games are progressing everyday cause of time they sacrifice, I cannot speak of the desire of my friends, but if their goal is to make it on Pro Tour they will succeed.
I suggest BET to do your homework before you make broad statements about mid-level amateurs and practice regimens.
Again for those of you who contributed positivity, thank you for your words of encouragement and hopes for success. We will focus on being ourselves, continuing to work hard, but most importantly enjoying the game we adore.
For the rest of the feedback, thanks for your opinion and interest!
I wish you all the best as well!
Hi Emily,
Thanks for joining our community.
There are a couple things I need to address in your post. First, you say all the KOD girls show class and are graceful when they play. I'm from Wisconsin and I've been to a few tournaments that Alison has been at. I also know the vast majority of player in Wisconsin and many of them have been to tournaments she's been at, and even played in on a team with her, and I'm curious if when she's been seen storming off crying and throwing chalk after she loses counts towards the class and gracefulness?
Also, I appreciate the fact that you come here stating how well the other members of KOD play. It's great to see a team that is so tight that they are happy to speak highly of each other's games. What I want to know though is why are there people, with very highly regarded opinions, stating that KOD plays at a mid-level amateur speed? Hmm, maybe you need to step outside the KOD box and look at how well each girl really plays and now how you seem them due to their being your friends and teammates? I'm not saying that none of you have any talent or can't play, I'm just saying that when the majority of people say one thing and then you say something different, I'm going to go with the people in the majority that don't have a biased opinion.
Again, I wish you great success and I appreciate you joining the AZ family.
Take care,
Patrick
