hi JCIN...
First thing is I would never tell you go "x" yourself Smokey. Whether this thing goes off or not I commend you on trying to make something happen. It's a hell of a thing. Hat's off to you sir.
The reason why it would have to be an all around for us to commit about $4000 to this is several reasons with one being foremost: If they play again it will be the rubber match.
They have played 2 sets of each game and they are dead even. The one pocket is crazy if you look at it: 38 games of one pocket and the score is 19-19.
I am sure people will watch a rubber match. I am also sure most will not watch a super long race of just 14.1
If you are in for the all around so are we. If not I hope these guys come out and play a 14.1 set for you in Vegas I would pay admission to watch it if possible.
I am a bit confused as to if you will only post for the straight pool but not the all around. I understand if you only will pay for 14.1 cause that is all that interests you. If you say no you still have all the respect in the world from me.
So just to be perfectly clear if you will put up $2000 ($1000 to to go to each player) for them to play an all around in Victorville consisting of a race to 400 14.1, race to 10 one pocket, and race to 30 ten ball then we will commit the same plus pay airfare and hotel for both guys.
So I guess just say yes for the all around or no not interested.
If yes I will get the contract together and since Danny hasnt weighed in here, try to contact him ASAP.
Like I said. Much respect either way.
sri for my late reply today but i needed some extra time to clarify my thoughts; so here goes:
1st: in the below quote from me, please again read the 'blue' highlighted parts:
okay, here's the deal:
A] as soon as you have a contract with John and Danny, you can have a bank check, or, cash, or, a wire for 2 dimes. on contingency, if you need, i will post the money on this monday the 5th, or, thereafter as required, with the stipulation that you will have a completed contract within this month, or, if not, you will return the funds by months end
B] i will relinquish all my conditions and give you full authority to determine all [providing the match is within this summer, as contracted
so, now you can do as you see fit; and that is a done deal; spoken to and committed to; however, i just want to add my thoughts for your consideration:
Edit: balance deleted
and to me, the highlighted section above clearly indicates i'm in; did i state my intentions improperly?
and if i did, i will state again, i am in, regardless whether victorville or vegas, and what game/s.
but honesty, i feel that for my personal commitment, i would have thought i would get "some say" in the event, as examples:
i asked for vegas, but that's not best for John;
i asked for only 14.1, but that's not best for you.
the players will make money to the tune of 3 dimes each from us against a possible loss, but the other will hit some really serious dough
you will have at least the chance to make some money
me, well its all a direct loss, right?
so i will just reiterate my points and then just accept what you guys decide:
1. i think vegas will be a better venue, and is also more convenient for me, and i think you too...
2. i know you know much more about different pool games and what interests more folks than i do, and for sure, every time i go to the 14.1 forum there are only a handful of people there. but please let me tell you what i believe:
i find it very exciting to watch 'runs' in 14.1, there is such an excitement and thrill in seeing 'high runs', 50 balls, 100 balls, and more. its much more thrilling at least to me than a 8/9/10 ball run.
maybe incorrectly but i believe that if there were more 14.1 professional matches, it would be great for pool and more and more players would get involved in 14.1. [and be Great for TV too, imho, and that is what can really help the players and pool most, Big Money!]
i understand that for the casual player who goes to shoot pool and for leagues or fun, 14.1 is not the game both due to time and table cost. but that does not mean that more professional 14.1 would not be a major boost in interest in pool.
and just for an analogy; what if golf was just 2 holes? and they played those 2 holes over and over and over again; like 8/9/10 ball. [look at the interest in snooker as another example and look at the sponsorship, and Big Money]
anyway, just my thoughts.
and as you mentioned in an earlier post, "The Code of Conduct" must not allow any unprofessional, ungentlemanly incident, just 2 gentlemen playing a gentleman's game/s. and if otherwise they will forfeit my contribution, and that should be included and agreed to. please confirm.
i hope all from me is clear
Good Luck and all the best,
smokey
