i know i made a deal and i can't retract, but...
i sincerely as one human being to another can be, i hope to add [but i will not change the deal as i have already stated] that you will be here to witness what i am sure will be a wonderful sight to see...
and to John and Danny, pls my friends let's do this; not for me, not for you, but for pool [all of us].
and i just want to add:
John, you are in my opinion a very nice man.
but to Danny, your apology was PERFECT. and to the poster with Danny's mug shot - we are all big boys here and that was not necessary so Danny, i apologize for that.
i hope the powers at AZ move this, but even if not, i hope to see it.

Hi John , I was at Q-Masters when you ran i think it was 406 with an OB 1 ,i believe it was the 2006 U.S. Open . Anyway I was fortunate enough to catch a ride back to the Convention Center that nite with you...still waiting for the autobiography.

John is a true champion
John Schmidt is and has been the best pocket billiard player alive for at least the last 5 years or so. He's also a real nice guy who has to operate in a world with very few nice guys but he's tough enough to survive. It's a real shame that 400 goons in the NBA are getting millions for dunking basketballs and someone with skills like John have to exist on peanuts when their skills are so much superior to today's multi millionaire
players in most sports. Oh well, maybe some day it will change, but I wouldn't bet on it.

so in case this never comes to fruition John, maybe we can set something up with another 14.1 player, how about Blackjack we all know, maybe Engert i think a great 14.1'er; i'm open to any idea that will help pool and especially 14.1.

actually i called my backer and he said he will stake the game.
if danny will play at garys poolroom in victorville and tar will still do what they say they will do ill play.
again thats a lot of ifs and danny has to agree to all that. that shouldnt be a problem because hes always been such a piece of cake to deal with lol. long story short ill play and your offer is what made me decide to play. thanks again smokey

I did run into Danny tonight, in fact he beat me out of the tournament I played. Race to two, he broke and ran - then I broke and failed to pocket a ball as well as looping the CB into the side pocket. That break proved to be the only shot I was to have. I told Danny that at least he showed me the respect of not allowing me a shot. (Danny well remembers how I once played).
But he knew nothing of the changes proposed here so I suggested he should look at the thread Saturday. I believe he will.

I hope you just avoid the whole thing.
It would get ugly and the prospect of a few bucks or some ego points just aint worth it... imo.
I wish you would just put Danny out of your life and refuse to let him back in.... no matter what.

I've been reading this thread now from the beginning . I started to read it because of the title. High Praise for John Schimidt. I was attracted to the fact that there are many people that share this opinion. I have had the pleasure of many times of watching this man work. It is truly a work of art.
I have also witnessed what looked to be pure jealousy after John made a run that to me was unequaled to anything I've witnessed.
A pro player watching LN who is by all rights one of the top dogs made the statement insinuating that " that's no big deal anybody could have done that." Which was so ludicrous to begin with but nevertheless infuriated John who just played his heart out.
I understand what it feels like to want to put these types of people in their places, but there are not enough places to put them. They will always be replaced by new ones.
You can never win against these types...you can beat him everyday till no days left and you will never win.

This was a great apology - I have said this before and will say it again, Danny has a true love for pool and desire to win and yes, he does sometimes get carried away, but only because he cares. I have dealt with Danny when it comes to money and my money, and this is where you can tell 99% of the people what their true character, and Danny Harriman is 100% above board. You can't say that about many people and even less about many a pool player.
Now where is John Schmidt's and 'Sausage' with their apology. And an explanation of what good it did to bring up Danny's past, which they actually have no knowledge about?
Also, sausage - do you have a real name as I would like to look up your past?
I think all that crap and related comments need to be forgotten and we should all just try to help as we can in seeing another great match - one where the playing field, the setting, the ref, the rules, and the money arrangements are fair,equal, and totally above board for both players.
In that way, something of value would come from all this. How could anyone justify asking for something else? Any other way and there will be more of the same nonsense.

I stopped reading this thread about Valley Forge time so I missed Smokey's most generous offer to get these two to play. Hell of an offer Smokey. It is very cool to see someone put their money where their mouth is when things like this come up.
I spoke with John yesterday and instead of making 20 phone calls I am just going to put it out here. If Smokey will post his end with us we will commit to the offer we made of a $1000 each, airfare and hotel for both players. This is only if they play the same all-around format as the first two matches. In my experience lots of people talk about 14.1 and how much they want to see it but our numbers don't agree with that. During past all arounds the 14.1 was the lowest selling day by a large margin so before we commit close to $4000 to this thing we need at least a prayer of getting even. That means an all around.
I would prefer to do it in Vegas like Smokey but I know John's backer Gary and he has traveled all over the country to put John in three of our matches so if he wants it in his room that is good for me. Sometime in the middle or end of June would be good as we are completely booked for the month of May and will be wrecked for the couple of weeks after Nationals. Plus it will give us time to promote it.
I will write up a contract detailing what we are offering, what the players receive, rules and code of conduct if all parties say they are interested.
Just like Smokey I would like an answer on this in a fairly short time frame. Lets say by next Friday. So far we have Smokey and us committing what will add up to about $6000 to see this match with Smokey doing it just for the love of the game and us gambling we can make something on it on the back end. If it doesn't go this time I am over it.
