Toothpaste Tip

Ok, so a few days ago I was cleaning my ferrule with toothpaste and a toothbrush. I took my cue out of the case to play that evening, and I was terrified by what I saw. The tip was white, dried out, and hard. I accidentally got it on the tip while scrubbing it. Careless mistake. It is a Le pro med-hard tip. I tried lightly sanding it and perforating it with my tip-pik, but after only a couple games, it starts to harden and turn shiny. Anyone ever have something like this happen? Any advice. I'm thinking I will just have to replace the tip, but not sure. Thanks.

Try a toothpaste with less whitener next time.

I never knew you could clean the ferrule with toothpaste. Any preference on what's better? Colgate, Crest, whitening? I want my ferrule to glow.

Okay ... the time for 'gentle' sanding is past. Get some 220 or 300 grain sandpaper and remove ALL of the white stuff. Be sure the tip is dry. Then, Shape and burnish.

Then .... Next time, use Magic Eraser to clean your ferrule .... no ugly white residue!

Ok thanks I'll try that. Yeah, you can clean it with toothpaste, you're just supposed to be careful not to get it on the tip. It works like a charm. Poolhatur, any of those toothpastes will work, but dont forget to dip the whole tip in listerine for a good 30 seconds.

Pearl Drops works better then toothpaste.

hell maybe you can wrap one of those teeth whitening strips around the ferrule...they are about the right size and are supposed to take out stains lol

guy loves his cue so much he's brushing its teeth:p

REPLACE THE TIP.... FLORIDE AND LEATHER DON'T MIX WELL.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO USE TOOTHPASTE TO CLEAN A FERRULE, YOU NEED TO PROTECT THE TIP FROM CONTACT. MAGIC ERASER WORKS, AS MENTIONED ABOVE, BUT THAT TAKES MATERIAL OFF.

THEY BOTH CLEAN WELL, JUST BE CAREFUL WHEN USING EITHER.

what are pearl drops?
That greatly depends on if we're talking about teeth or something else.

Seriously tho, with so many tried and true ways of cleaning and maintaining a playing shaft, why do people have to dick around with obscure remedies.
Acetone, Draino, whats next? Really, acetone was an answer someone gave as a way to clean a shaft.
I know, put one of those Sani Flush cubes in the water closet, stick the end of your shaft in the bowl and flush.
I'm just teasin but you know what I mean.
I cleaned 2 shafts for a guy, 13mm tips and just under the ferrule was measuring 12.60 to .50 and an hour glass figure.
I knew he was using something abrasive like a green pot scrubber. When I gave him his shafts back, I asked him what he was using.
His answer: Steel wool. Steel wool will take my ex wifes burnt cooking off of a stainless steel pot so why do you want to use that on wood?

no anthrax....its provides the smoothest recondition, but you must wear a hazmat suit and wear ass weights when using it.

I've never heard of using toothpaste to clean your ferrule. Durning my travels around the globe, I have used many different things to clean my ferrule:

1. African Elephant urine. Only African because of the acidic quality. Don't get this in your eyes, trust me, I know.
2. The sweat from the underbelly of a sumo wrestler. Hard to get, but very effective.
3. Mucus from a Madagascar cockroach. Another hard one to get.
4. Juice from a corpse flower. Rare and stinky but it works.
5. Rest of the time I use spit and an index card, most effective tool we all have. It also burnishes the tip. :)

I always used 'Soft Scrub'. Make sure you use only a small dot and keep it off the wood. It has chlorine in it which, over time, harms the wood fibres. A dab of high-quality spit on the end of your finger is all you need to rinse. Wipe it off and burnish with a paper towel. If you happen to get a little on the tip just wipe it off, let it dry, then do a quick number with your Willard shaper. You do have a Willard shaper, don't you. ;)

What is a Willard shaper? I shape my tip with my shoe.

Any time Jake. We're here for you Brother. Ask any question you want and one of us will come up with an answer. Even if we have to lie like a cheap rug.
