Billiards Ball Cleaner

Anyone had any experience with the 5 gal bucket idea on Utube using a 10 inch buffing wheel in the bottom as a ball cleaner?

Yes, I built one for less than $40 and it works pretty well. The bucket is $2-3 from Home Depot. Its pretty noisy and the whole unit shakes because of the random orbiter buffing wheel.

Does it work, yes. Is it elegent, no. Is it worthwhile if you can't afford to spend $600 on a Diamond Ball polisher, yes!

What sort of solution/cleaner/product do you use in your home-made cleaner?

Have you tried it with any really 'nasty' dirty balls?

One of the regulars at the pool hall I used to work at built us one of those home made ball cleaners. All in all it worked really well. As for cleaner we use the "Aramith billiard ball cleaner". I found if you ran it on carpet and or put some weight on the top while it was running it cut down on the nosie

peace vince

I made one as well for about $40. It's noisy, but who cares. Works great.
Probably the wrong thing to use, but I spray some liquid pet stain remover on the balls. They sparkle.

Ya, I threw one together over the past week. Had an old buffer, cut the 5 gallon pail to accomodate. Bought some Turtle wax Express Shine. I saw that the guy on the YouTube video used Turtle Wax Express Shine. Took it to the pool hall. Worked fine. A bit noisy. A timer would be helpful. But, for the price ......

I decided to use spring clamps to hold the carpet in place. Easier to change, rotate, move around.

I'd like to get some Aramith Ball Cleaner and see if there is a significant difference.

looks good i made mine with a motor out of a 2hp router with a threaded steel rod attached to a wooden platter that is carpeted and all controlled by a speed control switch for a fan that video of mine is with it on low lol...now i just have to find something other than a piece of a bucket to make them spin around bc it has the power to do all 16 at once the bucket just isnt big enough

psmith - try a concrete form tube. That's what I was going to use before I realized that I was just too lazy to build a polisher.

This method works like a charm. As others have stated, it is noisy. I fashioned a separater for the balls to keep each ball segregeted. It works well. If you use the search function of this site, you can find the detailed instructions to make one. One thing that I noticed was that mine vibrated like hell on my cement floor and moved around a bit. I placed two bricks in the bottom of the contraption (and it is most certainly a contraption) and it cut down on the vibration quite a bit. In all, an excellet $45 investment. Oh yeah, I have found that Novus 1 plastic cleaner does the trick quite nicely and is quite a bit cheaper than aramith's cleaning solution. Others on this site have tried brillianize with success as well. Cheers...

billiard ball buffer

I also made one of those machines. Noisy? Yes but it works great! For
that Xtra shine i also use a hand held drill with a 5" buffing pad that I used on my (mini buffer). Place it on top of the spinning balls and they take off like a jet as the machine spins them one way while you speed up the process with the drill and pad. Just a drop of Aramith ball cleaner on each ball and spin them for two to three minutes, 8 balls at a time. Great Idea!! I made mine for just under $36.00:)

Just give Matty a rag and some ball cleaner. A whole set will be clean in about 15 seconds.:happydance:

I built one also for $40. If you put it on a piece of thick carpet or a thick door mat and put some weight on it it's not that noisy. It works great. I've had mine for about 9 months and nothing has had to be replaced on it. Took me all of abuot an hour to build. I use it twice a week at least. Johnnyt

I used a high speed buffer that I got from Harbor Frieght for $30. I cut out a 16" round piece of wood, attached it to the buffer and stapled three microfiber towels to it. Here are some pics of the inside. Sorry, I don't know how to post pics.
