Women in the open.. Other side of the coin

I think its awsome if they let women in the US OPEN.
Because it would only be fair to start letting men into the women events.
Finally I won't have to get a sex change operation to get some T.V. exposer
or make some cash
Whats good for the goose is good for the GANDER
Lawyers from across the country will be signing men up for WPBA events after they play in the open or face discrimination lawsuits

ain't life grand

Participants should always be able to grade up, not down.

Just like all those successful lawsuits in golf, tennis, bowling, etc.?

I see you have some angst about this, but the "weaker sex" sports precedence has been set over and over.

KK9 <-- doesn't see SVB entering womens events anytime soon, but maybe Bartram will consider it? J/K!:wink:

I agree, I have thought about this myself since more mens tourneys are allowing the ladies to play why won't they let the men play in theirs. Also some of these events even give a bonus tothe top female player. So just a crazy example of why I don't like this is if all the ladies but one get knocked out in the first round and then the last lady gets knocked out in the 2nd round she may get a $1,000 bonus. Lets say Silver gets knocked out in the 3rd round after beating the last female standing she will make more money than him.

So I can beat out out of a tourney and you still make more money than me??? If the ladies want to play in these events and the promoters want them to play in the events why not just let them play their way into the cash like everyone else? I know if by some miracle the WPBA let the men play in one of their events they would not offer a bonus to us.

Just my opinion and I am sure it will piss a couple of people off but if its equal rights an all that then let it all be equal. I am not a sexist just fair.

Are you OK with the ladies playing as long as they don't get different payouts?

KK, Yes if they have the same payouts as the men then I am ok with it. However, I still think that the ladies should in turn let the men play in a couple of their big events.

Also I am not a bigtime promoter like Berhman or Griffin and I am sure there is a very good reason for the way they are doing things as far as the ladies getting a bonus. Obviously it will increase the spectators and probably sponorships etc. If this is going to help the sport in ANY way then I should be quiet and wish all good luck. Just seems a little unfair.

The bonus(es) are what will motivate more women to sign up for the open events. But the bonus shouldn't be overly excessive, maybe entry fee back or 2x the entry fee. (Actually for the US Open, $1K would be 2x the entry.) And some women will have a chance to go far since Barry said he will seed the top 4 WPBA pros who sign up.

A $1k bonus for high female at the Open is essentially entry & hotel for the week & from my experience double the entry fee seems like the standard bonus for high female.

I agree that to some this practice seems unfair, but most of those folks also say that women have no shot in hell of snapping of the Open. So I will say to all those who don't like this, start playing better & cash.

Well it never fails. Men in every sport immediately make this case when there's any woman wanting to play in a men's event. NEVER FAILS. Hard to find a word that correctly describes the phehistoric level of thought involved here.

When Annika played in the men's event you'd thought the world was going to end according to some sexist or fearful men. Ratings shot through the roof, Annika conducted herself with great dignity knowing that really she was set up for failure. the current structures of men and women golf was not ruined or altered forever. The mainstream loved the story.

It was a positive result for what is already a successful sport.

Luckily men's pool doesn't need any help. It's already wildly successful and cutting edge.

One of the big arguments from the players against Annika: She was going to take the bread out of some poor man's mouth who is trying to support a family. OMG. When men feel threatened they're apparently willing to say almost anything no matter how ....

I can remember years ago in NY when bars started letting women sit at the bar instead of having to sit at a table. Wow, you would have thought someone was taking their.....umm , manhood away. Johnnyt

I have no problem with the women playing if you read my post properly.

However since you seem to have a very lop sided opinion here. jusyt answer me this.

1) Why can Men not compete in top ladies events? Do you think it wil ruin the sport?

2) Do you think it fair to pay any competitor differently than everyone else based on their race or sex?

Again, I think its great that the ladies get to play in the mens events. just should not be treated any differently that everyone else in the tourney.

I can't wait to hear your answers to this.

Do you think any of the top male pros would actually want to enter a women's event? IF they were to win it, people would just say they should have.....but if they lose to a bunch of women??????????????

Nothing to gain and everything to lose....I don't think we will be seeing SVB or Johnny on the WPBA tour any time soon.

Your questions don't warrant answers in my opinion. They miss the point by such a great distance.
I figured that you would say that. What if they said women can play in this Mens event but they will get less money than the men do? Would that be fair?? cos essentially thats what we are talking about here. If lets say Allison wins the US Open in Va she will end up winning more than if a man wins it. So the men are getting paid less. Oh to go back to my original point. Iknow why you chose not to answerthe questions and I think most others reading this thread know.

I will say it again. I think its awesome that the ladies are able to play in these events, I just don't think they should get a different payout or bonus.

1) Why can Men not compete in top ladies events? Do you think it wil ruin the sport? Because they are undertaking a harder event

2) Do you think it fair to pay any competitor differently than everyone else based on their race or sex? As a means to encourage participation of an under-represented population, yes.
Again, I think its great that the ladies get to play in the mens events. just should not be treated any differently that everyone else in the tourney. Hopefully the disparity in skill and prize is temporary

Do you want women in our sport at all? If so, let them have both their own events + be able to join the mens.

There are atleast 100 guys for each girl playing pool. That number would increase by far if you don't let them recruit players for their own tournaments.

I know that Jasmin can win a major one day, but most of the women can't. Yet. Let them play in both kind of events, and they will recruit more players. In time there will be more girls able to knock the men, and who knows, maybe only 50 men per woman in 10 years or so.

If you force all girls to play only open events, there will be no more women pool.

I agree, I have thought about this myself since more mens tourneys are allowing the ladies to play why won't they let the men play in theirs. I would equate a bonus for Highest Female to the award/recognition the major golf tournaments give to the highest finishing amateur. Same concept, a bonus/award given to a member of a group of competitors not likely to win that event.

I happily stand by my opinion. You apparently think you've won the day with your arguments. Good luck with that.
