why am i -- a pool neophyte -- so taken with this strange, introverted sport?
when puzzled by significant life questions, i often revisit that renowned philosopher, fran lebowitz for guidance and enlightenment.
as always, doctor lebowitz came through with her observation that 'the outdoors is something you pass through between your apartment and a cab.'
bingo! (as they probably say wherever that game is played. by the by, whatever in the world is cow-tipping?)
pool is indoors! as are clubs, restaurants, dive bars, delis (speaking of which another great philosopher, damon runyon, observed, 'there are two kinds of people in the world, those who love delis and people you shouldn't associate with.') museums, bedrooms, galleries, libraries, bakeries, bookstores, coffee shops, jazz joints ... well, you get the idea!
everything good and natural and enjoyable -- such as pool -- takes place indoors.
now i know some people farm outside and there are probably other minor sunlit activities, but pool is where human people belong -- inside! is there any other sport that isn't played outdoors? (i don't consider bingo a sport!)
so, fellow albinos, in conclusion i am starting to realize that pool speaks to the natural heartbeat of humanity, that innate thrum of natural order which hums its subliminal message of healthful living ... don't go outside!
sunny
