Red Cloth @ Hollywood Billiards !!!

Wait until that red chalk works its way into the wood grain on your cues! T_T

Yup .. we have one local pool room with red clothes and red chalk and it's very easy to spot the players who play there regularly just by looking at their cue.

I played there once or twice and noticed that my shafts got red very fast and it ain't easy to get 'em out.

I hit balls on them this morning between work. its not all that bad. plays faster than IPT cloth, its worsted, so it runs fairly smooth. The pockets are still the same. And Jeff is approaching the more nightclub crowd.

To be honest, I love the tables. Just not the red so much. But the speed is slower. Makes the game tougher. Jeff didnt know they made red simonis, so next time we do it, were going with simonis. Anyways, thats the story.

But yea, all 15 tables downstairs will be burgundy after tonite. Private room will have a grey felt. See ya'll down there.

Peace. OD.

If he wants a nightclub, take out all the tables. Ill bet in the furture, the Seminoles will add one more thing to the list of 'musts' in order to hold an event. They respect pool. If my hotel wasn't prepaid, i d already be flying home.

Its sad really. Bey has hired or gone partners with some guys and they have apparently decided to make the place more of a nightclub and less of a pool hall. It seems a little silly to have triple shimmed tables that are covered in a way no player will want to play on. I'm not quite sure I understand the logic, but they are certainly not looking to satisfy serious pool players and are thinking their business will hopefully come from a different crowd. It seems like a poorly thought out plan considering the tables are still triple shimmed. The bangers they are looking to somehow better attract with their maroon tables (and I don't quite see how the color change will attract more clubby folks but good luck with that) already take 3 hours to play one game of 8 ball on those super tight pockets and that can't be much fun. I asked one of the new operators (who doesn't play pool) if they were going to take the pockets back to standard when he was proudly telling me about the new "merlot" felt they were going to install and he looked at me like I was speaking Swahili, so I don't think he knows the tables were altered to be tougher for players.

I think Jeff Bey is having a tough go of it financially. The place is either losing money or not making enough, and frankly, as much as I used to hang out in that place, I never had a conversation with the guy where I didn't feel like I was talking to an idiot. I do know, right or wrong, that he has decided that pool players aren't his meal ticket and he has absolutely no interest in catering to that crowd. I can't play on those tables, Ernie Gutierrez won't play on them, so we will be taking our business elsewhere. I've never seen the place full enough that getting rid of players to make way for bangers would be a good business move, but good luck to those idiots, I hope they make a million dollars a minute because of their ridiculous colored tables. They won't make another dime off of me.

Eric, if you convince Jeff to change the tables back, let me know, because as it stands, I'll never be in that place again. Its a shame, that was one of the most beautiful rooms I've ever been in and the equipment used to be excellent.

Bummer.

Thanks

Kevin

I loved those tables too. You and your father did such an excellent job on those tables. They were, in my opinion, the toughest, fairest and most consistent tables I've ever played on. I'll never play on the new felt and I wish them all the luck they deserve. You and your dad did a great job on the equipment at Plush Pockets and I'm sure those guys will be getting some of the business I used to give to Hollywood. Ernie and I were talking about where we are going to play and I guess that's going to be HOB in the Valley.

Good luck in this weekends tournament man. Play well.

Thanks

Kevin

Good lord - DON'T THEY KNOW WHO YOU ARE? ;)

You know, they do sort of know who Jay is, they just don't figure the opinion of a pool player is very important. It seems silly to have a pool room that doesn't have an interest in pool players, but good luck with that boys. Now they've got tables that bangers can't make a ball on and players won't want to play on. I hope they all get rich with that.

Thanks

Kevin

I might add that having all triple shimmed tables is equally as dumb as the red cloth, maybe dumber.

Well, I'm not a fan of the red cloth, but I bet the winner of the 8,500 added tournament has a positive attitude and adapts to whatever comes their way.

In Texas ALL the "pool halls" are club oriented. Any of them that used cloth other than Green or Blue switched back asap. Time will tell.

Meantime, the Seminole Tribe marches on and keeps supporting pool with another event that will certainly be a memorable one.

See ya'll there or on the stream.

Ray

Don't get me started on Jeff Bey's business acumen. I've had countless conversations with Jeff where he was basically telling me that he really didn't want pool players business and I could keep on saying to the guy is "hey, you know this is a pool room you own right?". I wish him all the success he deserves. It doesn't amaze me that he would need to hire guys to run his business for him and I wish them all all the luck they deserve.

Thanks

Sounds like the new owners want to chase the pool players out. That's what you do when you put red cloth on. Johnnyt

Wow!!!!

That is crazy....people were talking about how tough the conditions were at hardtimes, now were going to be playing on tight tables (not as tight as table 6 at hardtimes but tight) AND slow cloth, this is going to be insane....

I'll still do it, but damn I"m not sure what the hell Jeff was thinking...of course if he leased out the business to some non pool playing morons, then that would explain it.

Of course, like has been mentioned, keeping the tables shimmed for players and merlot??? for a clubby atmosphere is a ridiculous combination and can only lead to disaster....

Hopefully it doesnt take long for them to realize this...

Luckily I grew up on slow cloth, tight tables and various colors...I guess that being color blind would be an advantage here...

Forgive them Lord, for they know not what they do. They tore down paradise and put up a parking lot..... the dumb bastards.

I'm not a happy camper either guys. I don't like surprises and I got a big one this week. But I have a job to do and many players who are coming in for this event. As always I will do the best job I can and try to keep everyone happy. I do have one question. Do you think sunglasses would help me? :o

I'll take burgundy over pink any time.

I used to play here during my lunch break 2-4 times a week. The Pink Galleon *warning: worst website... ever. They're really trying to help keep pool going, but man... those pink tables/chalk are brutal.

As for getting chalk in your shafts... just be sure to wipe off your hands frequently and buy some extra magic erasers. :)

Wow really ????? right before a decent sized tournament you change the cloth to burgundy? that is unreal.......oh well I guess thats almost as absurd as flying from tampa to Lax for a race to 7 tourney......lol

Im still gonna have a good time and my gf is coming with me to visit her grandparents, plus Im gonnna try a new approach to tourneys. Im not gonna complain about anything.....wish me luck :)

Snookers in RI, before they moved, had red cloth. And I'm pretty sure some Joss Tour stops where played there at the time.

I don't remember if it was slow or not though. Did not much like the place.

Not trying to hijack, but I gotta ask if anyone else thats played on darker colored cloth struggles with lack of contrast of the pockets and shadowing?

I made the mistake and put ROYAL BLUE Simonis on my GCI.

IT SUCKS!!!!!!

Even with a Diamond light, it is too dark at the far end of the table. I have purchased Tournament Blue and will have it installed soon.

Russ.....

I know of one person who cancelled their entry due to the cloth and i haven't sopken to more than a few. Ive never been a fan of the place. No parking, crappy house cues, crazy $$ for table time. Keep it.

HB is a great place, parking aside. Nice tables, clean place, good food, etc..

I wouldn't imagine that too many people who are playing there are going to use a house cue!!!!! lol

You'd look perfect in sunglasses and, as always, you are flawless. Good luck with your event and I hope it goes off big. I'm sad to kiss that place goodbye.
I was *in love* with at least 3 waitresses, not to mention the tables.

Have a good tourney I can't even bring myself to go in there for that I'm too heartbroken.
