New cues - Who made these?

I'm gonna guess he's short, extremely opinionated, hated by many, loved by few, and has been noted as being an 'ass hole' on a bunch of t-shirts.

Your mother thinks you are ugly.

Could these be 1pRoscoe early cues with the help of a cuebuilder in the Northwest? Looks like his points and finish, but not his logo. These are too good for a beginner without a Masters training.

I think you pretty much hit it....

I built these cues with the help of Scott Gracio. Over the past few months I've made the trek out to his place several times to work on these from start to finish. While it was a joint effort, Scott made me do each step of the process, from gluing the veneers to sanding/making the rings to buffing/polish, and even doing the wrap. The only thing I needed him to do was the finish, as his method is a bit different than most.

There are methods that I used in this process that were what I wanted to do rather than what his method is. The whole point to this was the fact that I thought I could make a cue and I did. I did need a few pointers on how to do a couple of things, but I built this cue. I will say I couldn't have done it without Scott. He was adamant about me building it myself but didn't want me to screw it up, either..... (which I did in several places and throughout the process a few times, but I won't point them out :) ).

Thanks for the compliments, all. I'm BEYOND happy with the way this turned out, and honestly - will probably be the only 2 cues I ever make. I applaud all cuemakers that do this for the love of the hobby because this definitely won't pay my bills. I have a greater respect for what is involved in this process now.

Here's my logo:

The figure on this one is absolutely nuts as well... Thanks again to Scott Gracio for allowing me to use his wood.. He actually let me pick what I wanted to use from his stock... instead of giving me chunks of yellowheart, goncalo alves, and bem..... ;)

Hell of a job, Ross! I really like the EIR, and the colored index rings you put in it.

Congrats... you got to do something a lot of people would like to try and you got a better appreciation of the craft. As long as you still got 10 fingers you're doing good.

Now show us the first thing you made..... you know, the birdseye step stool to get to the lathe. :)

Nice work!!! Did I read in another thread, that you are moving to N. Dallas? You should fit right in. Where I have been playing Sat. tournaments, about 1 in 4 players shoot with a cue they made.

Welcome to the addiction!

All finger still in tact..... It was easier just to bring my own stool...

Thanks! That I am, by the end of this month... I know exactly where you are, I used to frequent Whitewright when I lived in Austin. Where do you usually play?
nice cues ross, but those are the weirdest looking hoppe rings i've ever seen!!

guy

HAHA! I showed those pics to another cuemaker who said the exact same thing... My response was that I feared I couldn't live up to even my own standards so I didn't do one.

.................

It was a learning experience for both of us. I had no idea how hard it is to show somebody how to build a cue. If any builders are thinking about doing this for somebody it's not easy.
He had his ups and downs. I laughed each time he pulled out the drill bit and it was hot to the fingers. Each time he stated he wouldn't do that again. When I say state I mean he yelled words I shouldn't post.

I did a few things that were time sensitive that weren't worth driving 300 miles to do. He got to do the important steps and did a great job. He was attentive to the little things that made me feel comfortable working on my machines. I didn't break out the power feed or routers. I think more practice is better before using those tools. He was lucky I sit in a chair and my lathe is lower. Standing worked just fine for him. If he wanted to use the chair I could of loaned him a phonebook.
Watching him made me think all pool players need a lathe to play with.

The only thing he complained about was getting dirty and the nice car he drove up in. I should of taken pictures of him in his ride.

Working in the shop with him was an experience.

I HAD NO IDEA WHAT I WAS GETTING INTO!!

He woke me up before I was ready, drank my beer, talked shit on the tables, brought over every cue he owned for repairs, and gave me a hard time about it all.

!!!!!!GLAD IT'S OVER!!!!!! LOL

To be honest I had a great time working with him. I will do this again with more people but not until my 2nd lathe is ready.

The guy in the glasses is Dan Glenn/Cueballdg on AZ.

That's a good pictures of Ross. Standing with Dan is talling. Oops my mistake. That saying is thinning.

Great, now my photos are out........

(for the record, I brought beer twice and I only brought 11 cues to do repairs on, not ALL of them.....)

pps - Wow, I just noticed I never have a bad hair day...

It looks like one of the Keebler Elves is a part of a job retraining program.

So do your part.... Buy some cookies so elves have a job.

Ross seriously great opportunity and I'm glad you enjoyed yourself.

Scott thank you for giving an elf a chance to make an honest days pay.
