My guess is that the thread was locked (rather than deleted) so that it can be used to prove that Dave was guilty of stealing the truck that he sold Scott. Had it been deleted, the evidence would be gone.

The thread was moved. The mods moved it instead of deleting it. That's why it now needs a password to "open it." It wasn't deleted and that means all the rep comments can still be seen (good and bad). If it was deleted, then all the rep comments would also be deleted. And we all know people ***** and complained in the past when that happened.
Only mods can retrieve it with their special mod password. Most of the time the thread is never even opened again. It's just kinda "there."

This is what thought of too. Wouldn't surprise me now that the vult...er...attorneys are involved.
Interesting enough some threads are visible and closed, while some are not visible but "there with a password". I agree, it is still in AZ...just moved to where the mods can get to it.
