I played Danny Barouti and he was made aware that I would be writing the results and some match reporting online and was fine with it.

On that note here we go.

First things first I once again won the lag. I am thinking this year at Valley Forge of including a lag challenge as well as a 14.1 challenge. This is something I think everyone could get into and is quick and easy but enough of that for now especially because if I enter I dont think anyone else will.

Danny broke and left me a shot which i made and ran a total of three whole balls lol. Its funny too because I felt great shooting my first two shots but unfortunately made a bad choice to play a combo and simply took it for granted.

Danny then went on a 131 ball tear. It was incredible to watch. One of the things that truly amazed me was his speed. He knew what he had to do and simply did it. If a pattern got messed up after a little grumble he was over it and adapted. You can honestly see the years of experience in his game and the confidence in which he pockets balls. Halfway through as he got closer and closer to the hundred even as his opponent (and friend) I had to root for him. You could audibly here me urging balls to roll that extra inch to give him a shot or better shot. It was a great thing to watch Danny shoot and I feel honored to have seen it in person. It is the first time I have ever had over a hundred ball run put on me and it felt fantastic.

Final Score - Danny-150 Charlie - 16
On another note Chris Lynch was on hand as well as Jerry Tarantola and DR9Ball himself Rufus although he didnt get to stay for the match.

**Disclaimer number 2 **

Chris Lynch was looking sharp tonight in his brown suit ensemble and you know what Im not telling him im posting this !!!! lol lol.

Guys I can not tell you the rush it is to play with these greats. Although Steve Lipsky last week clearly ducked me. Birthday Schmirthday lol lol lol.

It really is an honor and I look forward to grabbing the rack each time they get out in the hopes that I can show them "What I Got" as well. It is extremely humbling to play with these guys and a hell of a lot of fun to see them in a more social atmosphere than at rip your throat out tournaments.

See you all again next week and as for Danny great shooting my friend it truly was an honor.

Sounds like you had a good time. Congrats to Danny on the 131, at the pace he plays it should have only took about 35 minutes. lol. I know what you mean about routing for him to keep going, I felt the same when when Ortmann ran 100 and out on me.

Good luck next week and keep having fun.

That's incredible !!!!

I would have loved Danny to have me glued in the electric chair for that run.

Keep the write ups coming !

I really look forward to joining you next week.for Amsterdam week 3 !

Steve

When they are running balls like that, all you can do is watch and learn. Great experience for you.

Hello Charlie, I was playing on the next table over from you last night as as you were practicing. I was too engrossed in my match to realize that you were none other than the real ForumGhost516. Consider this an informal introduction. Hopefully next time, I'll get to sweat a little of "what you've got".

Brian

***Edit: Oh, and welcome to the ABC 14.1 league.***

Hey Brian great watching you play man you have some game !!! And as for sweating what I got lol it ain't much lol.

Either way it was great being there in that atmosphere and in truth I was just trying to not get in your way on that awesome run you had last night man.

See you back there on Monday !!

Charlie

Thanks for sharing. When you play Danny, it's a good idea to have a comfortable chair handy, as you're going to spend quite a bit of time in it.

For years, I played in the handicapped Straight pool league in that same room years ago and, of course, had to contend with Danny Barouty's brilliant game. I recall that he got to 200 in just three innings once against me, but that's the chance you take when you match up with him.

Even though I only had to make about half as many balls as him to win any given match, it was always a challenge, and I'd guess Danny beat me more than I beat him over the years, even with the spot.

Remarkably, Danny and I once met in the final of the league playoffs. I believe it was in 1997. It was one of my better efforts, and I beat him about 100-160. Yes, he was the one with 160, but I was the winner because of the handicap!

It was a gratifying moment for me, for my parents had come to watch the play that evening, and after seeing me win my semifinal, got to see me win the final over Danny. It was the first time, and remains the only time, that my mother has ever watched me play pool, and I was glad to show her my best effort.

I recall that, after the match, Danny was very generous in the comments he made about my play to my parents, and it meant the world to me.

To sum, Danny's excellence extends far beyond his extraordinary playing skills, for he is a great ambassador for our game and inspires and offers encouragement to so many players, as he did for me on that improbable night in which I bested him in the league final.

Here in New York, we know just how lucky we are to have Danny Barouty in our midst. In so many respects, he is the very pulse of 14.1 in New York City.

Yes, Danny is an enduring symbol of excellence in 14.1.

Thanks for noticing and thanks again for trying not to get in my way! I fell into the zone and didn't even realize the number of people standing around watching until I missed a combo that I feel I'm a favorite to make. Oh well, back to the drawing board...

playing in this bracket you will have to think of some ingenious sharking methods. have you tried eating three cans of beans before the match and timing gaseous expulsions on critical opponent shots? how bout a big wet, sloppy sneeze on the balls right after your rack them? lol...

Sharp in comparison to guys in shorts and flip flops maybe. Know anyone fitting that description?

Charlie,

Don't give up. On the bright side, come league playoff time you're going to end up with an insane handicap.

In all honesty if I was to play again next season I would not want to be in another division. These guys are incredible and I have no problem paying my dues and taking my lumps to get the chance to learn !!!

Hmm, perhaps for next season Danny should advertise the masters division as 14 week course on advance 14.1 pool. Each week, you may get one on one instruction in the form of a match to 150 points with a different instructor of 14.1 such as Danny Barouty, Chris Lynch, and Steve Lipsky.

I didn't have enough time to ask for permission to post. :D

On a different note, its a testament to Danny's league that a notable number league players qualify and compete in the World 14.1 Championship.
