BREAKING NEWS: Francisco Bustamante Inducted in BCA Hall of Fame

I was involved in a conversation at the Open last year and Parica said "I would love to be in the HOF, I only got one year left though" SO I am sure this news is a little dissapointing to him.

Busty is a great player and does deserve to be in the HOF but maybe they could have put him in next year and let Jose have what he deserves on time not some veterans commitee deal. AGAIN, this is not a slam on Busty he deserves it why not put them both in?

First of all, a hearty congratulations to Francisco. He's had a great career with many big wins and is a worthy addition to the Hall. Like many others, I feel Jose deserves to be in the HOF. Unfortunately this year (and last) I no longer have a vote.

I was part of a group known as "At Large Members" that are not included with the rest of the billiard media who are regular voting members. For several years I was one of the people casting a vote for new inductees. Two years ago the name of this group was changed to "friends of the game" and I was voted off this committee. So I am no longer a voting member for the HOF selection process.

There are approximately 30 people who vote for the HOF selections and to get in you need to be named on 75% of the ballots. I voted for Jose every year I was on the committee. I also voted for Buddy, Earl, Efren and others who did get in. Pretty obvious choices as is Ralf Souquet who will certainly get in soon.

If I ever get a chance to vote again, I will cast my vote for Jose once more, if I am part of the Veteran's committee. Which currently I am not. I would also vote for Danny Diliberto, another deserving player from the older generation. Those two are high on my list of veterans who deserve induction into the HOF.

Jay, I think you should be in the HOF for Some reason. Obviously not playing lol maybe there should be a catagory for Dedication to the game by little bald men or something. ;)

Jay,

I know you've voted for Jose in the past and it would appear some of the wrong people were taken off. Seems to me you should still be on the voting committee and those that don't really know pool should be taken off.

How can Parica NOT be named on 75% of the ballots by people that supposedly know pool?

Jay,

I don't know why the At Large voters are no longer on board. Jay needs needs to be on.

Jose' was fairly close last year, but this year he really dropped off in the voting. I don't know why. I think that him moving into the Veterans category might delay him even longer.

The voters are all part of the Billiard Media Association just like in major sports (e.g., the Baseball Writer's Association). That's a bunch of writers for all the major publications, the internet forum owners, etc. Next year at this time (say May), start your campaining with them. But, not all of them read this forum, so if a tree falls deep in the forest of the internet and nobody hears it, it most certainly makes no noise.

How can Parica NOT be named on 75% of the ballots by people that supposedly know pool?
Boggles my mind as well. Bustamante certainly deserves to be in. I just assumed that more people on the committee would have voted for Jose'.

Very good post JAM

I think many people feel the same way, Dave.

On a good note, though, Jose Parica was inducted into the One-Pocket Hall of Fame earlier this year, which is noteworthy. Jose is a proud man, and I know he appreciated that very much. :smiling-heart:

The BCA Hall of Fame selection process for the Hall of Fame is a political machine. There is no way to know what goes on behind the curtain. Sure, BCA-selected people, the majority consisting of industry members, can submit their votes. If the same names were submitted for a popular vote in the pool public, I am almost positive the outcome would be quite different.

Though I am happy as can be that Bustie got the nod this year, there are many pool greats that have been ignored and forgotten by the BCA, but, hey, that's pool politics for you. :(

While I am so happy for Francisco, I am equally sad for Parica. Credentials compared, it's no comparision! And when you factor Ralf's credentials in, it's almost a "No contest".

This is just one more reason why the BCA has such a low approval rating from the players and the people who really are into pool and it's history.
This is the same bunch who made Earl Strickland wait until his final year of eligibility before he was inducted. If a 6 time World 9 Ball Champ & a 5 time U.S. Open Champ is passed over 4 different times for somebody with far less credentials, how can anybody in their right mind not think "politics"???

Grady Mathews, Ronnie Allen, Danny DiLiberto, Bennie Allen, etc, etc will sadly never be inducted into the BCA H.O.F. It's the BCA's great loss....

Thankfully, Steve Booth at OnePocket.org has a REAL H.O.F., including banquet, for the great players that have been inducted into the 1P and Banks H.O.F.

Taking nothing away from Bustamante, who it seems everybody likes and is happy for, this is really so sad for Jose Parica.

Congratulations to Fransico!

Hoorah for Francisco! :) Like everybody else that has been around for a while, I can't see how Jose was over looked again.

It's kind of like the way the BCA overlooked Earl Strickland for so many, many years, the way they are overlooking Jose Parica.

There are quite a few pool players who are well-known legends. I see Jimmy Mataya's name was on the BCA Hall of Fame roster. I love Jimmy Mataya's spirit, and he's a hoot, but what about Cornbread Red?

Maybe Jimmy has friends in the right places. ;)
