Before & after of a home style Delmo 9ft.

Guys, that's an involved job in a well equipped shop.Notice that RKC is doing the work in the field on the customers driveway. That young man that's working with you sure is lucky. My hat is off to you again. You are a true craftsman.

That man working with me is Zach Jonas, from the Phoenix, AZ area. He's been working as a table mechanic for the last 7 years, is 25 years old and has been bugging me for the last couple of years to train under me....soooo...I told him that if he came up to Vegas before I left out on the road again he could travel with me for the next 4 to 6 weeks and work under my supervision...without pay, but I'd pay for all his food, laundry, hotels if we stay in some, and that he'd be working any where from 8 to 16 hours a day everyday...and that I was a grumpy old fart to work for because I demand paying attention to what I'm teaching...which means he can ask all the questions he wants while learning, but he has to forget everything he's ever learned in the past and learn to work on tables my way....and if he could agree to that then he could come along for a while.

He's in the pictures, so I guess you can see he agreed:D Phoenix, AZ needs a top table mechanic in that area because of all the Diamonds that have been shipped to that zone, as well as a top table mechanic for all those in that area to get real work done on their pool tables.

Zach is a real good kid, and a FAST learner...he's going to be a GREAT asset to Diamond because when his finished with me, he'll be the guy going to pick up the Diamonds for distribution to AZ, CO, NM as well as being a practicing top table mechanic for the AZ area;)

Might as well take that Delmo logo off that table.
Someone might play on that and expect Delmos to play like that.

I thought about that, since no table I rebuild plays like the manufacture made the table to play...but my name plate "Cobra" didn't fit the rail inlay:D

Great job Glenn and thanks for sharing your journey with everyone on the reconditioning of this table.

wow

The show should be a reality T.V. show called Pimp My Table. Seriously... Your work should be recorded and taught. With the show you get a new rig to live inn. My table is playing great. See you when you're in Vegas. I want to make the pockets BIGGER.

B.f.e.

Thanks again for coming out to the sticks to help a feller out... cant wait for the results, if you get to hot jump in the pool....

When have you EVER heard of me making pockets BIGGER???:rotflmao1:

I think at this point, I'd rather take everything I know about designing and building pool tables to Diamond, and help them create a line of King Cobra home style pool tables that play every bit as good as any commercial table built today by ANY manufacture. That way when the wife don't like the looks of having a commercial table in the home, the husband don't have to sacrafice quality play for looks, because there won't be any difference in the play of the tables;)

The big question is?????

How much would you charge to do that to another delmo???

If it were the same style as what I just worked on, with the same problems, around $1,750 for everything. I look at it this way, if a person already had the table, where are they ever going to find another table that will play as good as what I can build them on the spot for the same price?;) not a chance, as Greg Sullivan reminds me all the time:D I'm not rebuilding tables....I'm manufacturing them...on site:grin: and you can believe he jumps my ass for that all the time:grin::grin: but he also knows beyond any shadow of a doubt he and Diamond has my 100% support in anything I can do to help, be it my back or my brain...what's left of it:rotflmao1:

God that seems cheap for all that work . You said between 60 and 80 hours . so say 70 . That works out to be only $25 an hour. I think that's like stealing when you figure in the truck, tools ,gas , insurance etc.

It is a real pleasure to see true craftsmanship.

Everything I put into this table to build it up to play perfect, Diamond does on a daily basis. Diamond is the only table manufacture I know of that butcher-blocks Oak to use as the sub-rails. They have the only real slate leveling system in the world on a pool table. The pockets are great. But most of all, Diamond keeps looking to make an already great table better....
why?....Because they care, that's why.

I'm not trying to fit in a plug for Diamond here, I'm just trying to explain why I have such a strong bond with the Diamond people. When I tell them they need to change something about their tables and why...they listen. When I tell them NOT to change something....they listen as well. That relationship with Diamond makes me feel like I'm a part of Diamond even though I'm just a sub-contractor working for myself.

I have a lot of great ideas that I'd like Diamond to listen to when it comes to creating a great home style table because I think the home table market has gone straight down hill with everybody and their brother building what they think is a good home style table.

Diamond for once, has the commercial industry locked up, there is no better built commercial table on the market than the ProAm...and believe me when I say I rate it way above the Diamond Professional in the commercial industry.

I know there's some complaints about how the Diamond tables play, but look without help from the rest of the industry like the cushion manufactures input as to whats right or wrong about making their cushions play at their best...Diamond has done a great job so far as far as I'm concerned.

It all depends on how the conversations go with who the owner of the table is as to whether or not I'll work on the table...it's not the money:D

Glen.....speaking of no table mechanics in the Phoenix area...when is the next time you are going to be in our hot (and now also humid) state.

I would like to get my GCII Cobratized!!!!

When I have the money I may have you do it to my table...

I am a capable mechanic, but what you did with that table is amazing. I have almost the same exact model of table only mine has the squared legs.

I added to the rails to tighten up the pockets, but it had a couple of really bad rails that needed a whole lot of TLC.

One of them had actually pulled part of the rail away when I went to replace the rubbers. I had patched it with some epoxy and smoothed it down and it holds up pretty well.

I have 760 on it now but I"m thinking of making the switch to 860HR.

Considering that I bought the table for $800 and it's hard to even get ninefoot slate for much less than that, I think it was worth it, but I could definitely see putting 1750 into this to make it that nice as opposed to paying multiple thousands for a new table.

Well, that's pretty much the way I see it too. I mean if I wanted to, I could take a sears best pool table and rebuild it to play as good as any commercial table on the market...not that I would, but you know what I mean:D

Glen, the "Realkingcobra":D

Glen inquiring minds want to know?

Do Delmo tables bank short? I couldn't stand it anymore got of work at 6 this morning I had to play on the table. The pockets are amazing! The cut and the downward angel is perfect. By the way I made your shot you were shooting with the 6 ball frozen to the rail on the first diamond of the short rail carooming the cue ball of it going 3 rails and making the ball in the corner. I can't lie it took me four shots, but then I made it twice in a row. I think it might role off a little tho can you stop by and check it out. lol :p. Played on Jimmy's buckets last night too. Thank you for your attention to detail, May you have safe journeys.
