Full rail rebuild of a Delmo 9ft.

Because the slates sit much flatter on a single piece of wood, as opposed to trying to flush up two separate pieces of wood. Once the slates were screwed down, they were completely flat across the seams;)

Okay, I see where that's better. The wood you added to the rail tops, before the featherstrip, is that so your subrail extensions wouldln't interfer with the #6 pocket or too make the shelves deeper?

Actually, the 1/4" extention on the front of the Walnut rail cap was to (1) repair the inconsistant widths of the rail caps, (2) to push out and shrink the playing surface since it was over 50x100 and to extend the pocket shelf a little.

Wow' awesome work! Thanks for sharing, you are making a great movement in every aspect of pool table mechanic works.
- I was wondering how you cut the floating nut plate slots?
I kinda started a project to rebuild work on some rails but haven't put much into it..

What floating nut play slots? I used the Diamond threaded inserts for the rail bolt fasteners...look at the bottom side of the rails again;)

Josh and Don, you got to see some of the work I put into these rails while you were with me in Vegas, just thought it'd be nice to show you the finished product:grin:

Yup. They look great Glen. It was fun to see those come along step by step and I was looking forward to the end result. Thanks for posting!

Glad to see you're up this morning buddy, I'm out here in bumf*#k Egypt (Montana) delivering a Diamond 8ft ProAm right now, then off to Portland, OR. Wish I could have brought you and Don on the road with me as Don sure is funny to listen to always wanting to get an Asian massage:D

Yeah but do you blame him? LOL

I looked again, and I'm impressed...you don't even notice those extensions unless you're looking for them. I thought when you were talking about putting them in they would stick out like a sore thumb. Nice how they blend right in. Maybe John could market your "invisible" rail cap extensions. ;)

What did you use to strip the old finish off the rails?

What stain and finish did you use on them?

They look good. Nice job.

150 grit, 220 grit, 320 grit sandpaper...takes all the scratches out of the finish and leaves the Walnut wood bare.

Minwax Special Walnut stain.

Minwax satin finish spray.

How do you protect the inlaid "diamonds" when sanding off the finish?

When spraying on the finish do you spray over the "diamonds"?

Thanks
