Okay, I see where that's better. The wood you added to the rail tops, before the featherstrip, is that so your subrail extensions wouldln't interfer with the #6 pocket or too make the shelves deeper?

Actually, the 1/4" extention on the front of the Walnut rail cap was to (1) repair the inconsistant widths of the rail caps, (2) to push out and shrink the playing surface since it was over 50x100 and to extend the pocket shelf a little.

What floating nut play slots? I used the Diamond threaded inserts for the rail bolt fasteners...look at the bottom side of the rails again;)

I looked again, and I'm impressed...you don't even notice those extensions unless you're looking for them. I thought when you were talking about putting them in they would stick out like a sore thumb. Nice how they blend right in. Maybe John could market your "invisible" rail cap extensions. ;)
 
What did you use to strip the old finish off the rails?

What stain and finish did you use on them?

They look good. Nice job.
 
150 grit, 220 grit, 320 grit sandpaper...takes all the scratches out of the finish and leaves the Walnut wood bare.

Minwax Special Walnut stain.

Minwax satin finish spray.

How do you protect the inlaid "diamonds" when sanding off the finish?

When spraying on the finish do you spray over the "diamonds"?
