League players should be so proud...

Someone telling me that they play pool for a league is for me, the equivalent of saying that they play pool with a group of crappy players and they are probably crappy too.

It may be different where you live but most probably it isn't.

your right. 100%. all the league players are crap. can i have the 6 out and the breaks playing some 9 or ten ball? or how about 11-3 playing one hole? or 150-25 playing straight pool? you can't make a blanket statement like that. here in atlanta we have strong A players that play apa, bca and tap. your area may suck but you just can't make a blanket statment that all league players suck. i'm only a good C player that can hit B- speed on my great days but i still get to sneak up on people all the time at tournaments because i show up wearing apa t shirts and they instantly think "he sucks" and then when they dry break and i run out they start to realize something isn't quite right with the assumption that because i shoot apa i suck (this happened last night). i don't generally like the business model of the apa, but i don't play to get to vegas. i like the bca policies a little better but still don't play in vegas. i play in the leagues because i get to play alot for a little money (here in the atl it's way less expensive to shoot league than pay table time - and we play on 9fters in alot of places or at least 8ft). you can hate the organizations, for sure, especially the apa model. a lot of us agree it's not good. but please don't lump all the league players together. a lot of us are players. i've made this plea before and i'll keep making it. just think about it is all i'm asking. you are entirely entitled to your opinion but just think about it.

I'm gonna side with Mowem Down on this one.....it seems like finding a nice nine-footer in a pool room anymore is almost impossible.....not all of us have the luxury of a pool table at home (still hoping to some day), and many with a home table simply don't have the room for a big table....hell, I've had a couple of buddies with 7 footers in their apartment....

He's just beyotching because his home room, probably one of the few ones if not the only one close to him, dumped their nice big tables in favor of bar boxes.....yeah, you can play 14.1, 1 pocket, 10-ball, and almost any game on a 7 footer, but it just isn't the same....

Don't get me wrong, I am in favor of leagues....BCA Masters, APA Masters, and any other masters leagues should be played on 9 footers IMHO, and there are more than a few of those out there.....granted, APA is really tailored towards 7 footers considering the skill of the lower level players.....

Mowem, I get you man.....you lost the good tables in your favorite spot to play.....it sucks....

Thanks, you kinda got it and must have understood " where im at " but the more important part most didnt get was " wont go " no need for a sign saying "no league players "...

so once again for those who didint get it the league players where Im at are killing the pool rooms where im at. one will probply be ok he spins music on the weekends and is going to end up being more of a up scale lounge then pool room the other is ran by a guy who does it out of love of the game doesnt need the money or keep the room open for any reason other then hes had it for almost 20 years. He'll probably just close up and retire.

When i do have a team it is out of a place that has 9fters with 4 1/2 iinch pockets (that play stingy) and have no doubt half the reason is to punish the poor league players that cry about not being able to make a ball.

I know there are places in the country were there are enough players that play leagues in the pool rooms that it keeps them open thats great but it aint so "WHERE IM AT". Sh*t you go to league (APA) where im at and run a rack or 2, 90 percent of the people you wil be playing will start complaining your to good, that is no lie, its sad..

To sum up my point ..what a great game it will be (WHERE IM AT) when its only played in bars on beer stained 7fters...

Big P. i got a 1946 Balke Collender 5x10 snooker table downstairs with simonis and centenials, my favorite place to play never closes. Well 2nd fav, id rather be in MT. hitting um with my buddy Jack..

Im guessing its just the way I was raised but I always thought leagues were the stepping stones to the Bigs.. Pool leagues keep growing but Pool keeps shrinking..strange..

the league players were im from are killing pool.. Not only will they not go to a pool room and learn a thing about the game. If you start a team out of the pool room when they have to come play there they cry because the tables are to big. They are not even in tune with the game enough to know how great the conditions are that they are getting to play on FOR FREE...So now two of the rooms are going to start taking out 9fters and putting in 7fters, Great... Way to go league players, and to be crystal about it, APA league players, the others dont really mind they are just to few in numbers to matter...

Good bye pool room you will be missed....

Get a life, dude.

You can believe whatever you want to believe but the reality is that I am not saying it just to aggravate.

Of course, that's because the vast majority of these league players are either alcoholics or an addict of some kind or another.

Pool Leagues do tend to bring together the dregs of society. Very often these pool leagues are made up of ex-prison convicts who learned to play in jail.

It's not elitist at all. Unless wanting to avoid scum is elitist.

Well I don't know if I fail to disagree with you.

What made you think that I was taking the stance that I want these leagues to disappear off the earth. Your being presumptuous. Actually I am glad that the pool halls get money from league players. It still doesn't change my thoughts on the players themselves.

wow. i wish i had read down alittle more and seen this before i posted my other respose and was nice. ok seriously. if i am an achaholic/addict/dregg of society what are you? a prince? sultan? king? you're a pool player too. so what exactly makes you better? please, i am dying to know. and i really want to know what spots you'll offer to us low life bed wetting shit stain league players because i'll round up some competion for ya. i'm willing to bet you're the same guy who sits in the pool hall for 8 hours drinking water not paying a nickel for table time "waiting" for a "game" to walk in but won't bet a dime that ice is cold unless you have the mortal lock nuts. i watched about 6 of you guys waiting for a free table to play on as the tournament field thinned out last night. wouldn't rent a table if humanity depended on it but as soon as one was open jumped right on like they actaully paid an entry fee (which of course they didn't and wouldn't 'cause they're cheap as all f*ck). yep we need more of those guys, not more league players. you're my hero.

it's all good. you have made it pretty clear you're just venting about losing good rooms and equipment in your area. and btw i'm sorry for ya, that sucks. i lost my favorite spot to play a while back and it really sucks. i am with you. i hate the fact a lot of the leagues want to play on bar boxes. i prefer a nice 9ft with decent pockets.

I usually don't get into peeing contests like this because it's pointless. But as I'm rather tired today, my resistance is down...

You have proven my point to the letter. You are simply trying to stir the stuff. Because if you aren't, making blanket statements like "Of course, that's because the vast majority of these league players are either alcoholics or an addict of some kind or another. Pool Leagues do tend to bring together the dregs of society. Very often these pool leagues are made up of ex-prison convicts who learned to play in jail" and meaning them makes you out to be a very sad individual indeed.

Of course, since I don't believe you truly mean that and are only saying it to inflame, I'll just sit back and let you carry on. I may be a crappy league player, but I can see the forest for the trees...

Just be glad you have a league. We might not get one started up this coming season. Times are tough.

This post is historic! Clearly one of the most ignorant posts of all time. I love it. :D:D

Now that I've been so well informed, I'm considering opening a pool room between the local AA and county Prison to rake in on all these addicts and criminal pool players. :p

NON league playing pool players are killing the rooms!!!!

Spend money. Buy food and drinks. Fill the tables.

Until you do these things it's all your fault!!!

I play in a local 8-ball league, and anybody that is so ignorant to believe that all league players suck, come play me a race to 5 for 100. BB or 9ft, doesn't matter. 8-ball, 9-ball, 10-ball, 14.1, rotation, one-pocket, banks, game doesn't matter. Bring your elitist attitude, and your money. We'll see if you are as elite as you think you are.

I haven't said anything that's not true. I know for a fact that a good percentage of the pool league near me is made up of ex-convicts. In the pool hall near me there is someone who was convicted and did time for murder.

FOR A FACT!

And I also know for a fact that any time I see League players play that more often than not they are stoned or on some illegal mind altering substance, drunk, or constantly going outside huddled up in the rain so that they can breath cancerous filth into their lungs like the pathetic addicts they are.

FOR A FACT!

Your going to believe what you want to believe but it doesn't change the reality.

Fortunately, you live in a different reality than the one I do.

Best of luck with that.

Where's the conflict? I don't like leagues so I don't play in them. I don't like 7 foot tables so I don't play on them.

A good percentage? You then go on to mention one single guy. Clearly your perception of "a good percentage" differs from the common understanding of the term (as does your perception of reality).

PS. You're awesome. I secretly know that you're kidding around. Thanks for the chuckle. :)

Seems pretty reasonable to me, too. I'm not fond of 7 foot tables either. Of course I'd have to go to the one dumpiest bar in town to play on the one 7 foot table for 30 miles... :p

Fortunately all the good places to play in our area have all nine-footers. Yeah, there is one place that has three 8-footers, but another that has 20 Gold Crowns, and the club that I belong to has five Oldhausens (sp?).

Even us lowly, scum-bag, convicted-felon addicts from the leagues play on 9-footers here. :grin-square:

Christ!

Geometry, do you still have your sheet & rope? what an insane outlook on life...

The league I play in has senior executives from Fortune 500 companies (including me!), real estate developers, general contractors, attorney's, small business owners wives of the aforementioned and yes, a few punks... that's life.

Go join a convent.
