I saw the match from 5-5 and a few of the other matches. I know the table was the same for all the players, but that was one horrible table for a world championship. Way too fast, balls rolling off bad, and two or three corner pockets with the Olhausen rattle. Johnnyt
If it is held in China, given the population, that is a long term trend I believe.
Absolute affluence and visa issues is my stab at the heart of the issue. I read somewhere that Efren Reyes couldn't get a visa for the US, so he borrowed a passport and came as Ceasar Morales on his first trip.
The great US/China currency exchange rate which makes chinese good inexpensive, makes it prohibitively expensive for most chinese players to travel/play in tournaments outsides of china.
The Championship has been in China a few years now. I'm not certain for sure but I believe the way players are selected is each sub organization under the WPA send so many players (not sure that each organization sends the same number though), I believe the WPBA is also given a few seats and the host country also. This I think accounts for why there are so many WPBAers and why so many chinese players.

I knew Allison was going to have a hard time taking it down if she didn't play better than she did in the semi-final. That Fu can play.
Allison clearly misses more balls these days and her position play is not nearly as precise as it used to be. She hooked herself and got on the wrong side of the ball numerous times. It's a testament to just how dominating she was at her peak.

The main q'rs are in the host country also. They may also fill spots that are needed for a full field if ladies from other countries turn down the invites. Not sure if that happens here but it is usually par for the course.
Im not sure the WPBA per se gets spots. I THINK the spots are alloted by region or country.
I'm not certain about that either. It is how they do it for the Amway Cup and this seems very similar. You're right about the q'rs. Seems to me last year there were a few more ladies from europe who came over and went through the qualifying matches. i'm pretty sure though that it's not by country even though they are representing their countries. I thinks it's EPBF (europe), APBU (asia), BCA and maybe WPBA (north America). Some other groups for central and south america and oceana.

Womens play just gets stronger and stronger.Watching some of the matches in China,I see so many ladies who Ive never even heard of playing great pool.
IMO Ali is the all time greatest womens pool champ.I wonder do the ladies in Asian countries idolize her?Of course she is not playing at the standard she set in womens pool these days.
