how can you tell the difference?

If you are talking about Moori Tips, make sure they packaged or know what you are looking for. I personally have never encountered any fakes that I am aware of but, everything I but now is packaged.

Currently my wife is in South Korea and she is picking up a few Hundred Moori Tips for me, at one place she went into they offered her Moori Tips that were not packaged but we did not buy any not worth the risk.

the conversation came up with one of my suppliers the other day.just wanted to know if anyone had run into the fake stuff .thanx guys

I like to think of myself as an expert at id'ing moori's, and there hardness. I have encountered many "fake" moori's. Mostly from a pool hall about 3hrs away from me. If it was just 1 I could see a guy reaching into the moori bin, and mistakingly grabbing another tip that got knocked into it, (if you have moori's that are not in the blister packs), but I'd say in the last 5-6 years I've encountered 30-40. And there using layered tips I charge $15 for, and most don't even have the same color of leather not even close.

REAL MOORI'S have an orange leather, soft moori's are a light orange, medium a much richer orange, and quicks are a dark/dull orange. The layers/glue lines are very straight and look professional, where some of the better knock offs I've seen all have wavy layers.

a friend of mine asked me to put a moori on his cue for him. said he already bought it from someone. he handed me a lepro. he tried to play it off like it was all good but you can tell he was upset. he paid 15 bones for a lepro!

Some had no pad, some had a leather pad (eureka), some had a gray pad and some had a red pad (champion). I'll dig up the other names after dinner. I'like the Chandiferts too the black ones are the ones hard to come by.
