I hope someone will be able to identify this cue. Before I go further sorry for the crappy pics. I will try and get this outside tomorrow in some sun light and use my other camera and try and get some better pics.

I'm told its a Tad but however it does not have a stamp in the butt cap like my other Tad. Unsure of weight of cue and shaft sizes. Cue has 3 shafts with matching joint protectors. Ivory ferrels and Solid Ivory Joint. Not sure what butt cap is made from, I do not thinks it Ivory. Birdseye Maple forearm and sleeve. Cue is in Excellent condition and has been played with. It's honestly the best shooting cue I've ever had. It's NOT FOR SALE but I would love to know if it's what I'm told it is and whats it's value is.

Thanks
Breezy

i thought tad also......but after some inspection maybe a martin? what ever it is....i bet i plays crazy smooth....gl with your search...mickey

ITS NOT A MARTIN......possibly a TAD, maybe

I do not think this is a Harvey Martin cue.....here is why

The buttcap looks to opaque to be ivory.......and Martin cues generally had Ivory on the butt cap tho he did make them in white delrin also.....what he didn't do was make the buttcap long like what your showing "TAD" style

The second thing is the joint itself as I can't remember seeing a Martin cue with a piloted joint....FLAT FACED is what he used

Third I can remember seeing a Martin with no ring above the buttcap.....which Harvey didn't put long buttcaps on his cues anyway.

So I really don't believe this to be a Martin cue

I also don't beleive it to be a TAD either....butt cap length is looks right

Pin is incorrect to be a TAD (pretty sure that pin your showing is a 3/8 x 10 as he uses a 3/8 x 12 Pin now and used to use a 5/16 x 18 (meucci style pin)

Tho Martin did use a 3/8 x 10 pin but generally it was out of aluminum or brass and that looks like stainless to me.

There is a TAD similar to this on in the blue book but its his "martin style" cue and has rings above the buttcap.....

IF it is a TAD that hasn't been refinished wrong then it would be 1977 and before b/c before then he didn't have any markings.

I doubt that it would be a Scrager either as he doesn't like doing piloted ivory joints.....he uses piloted joints on his stainless steel jointed cues.

If it were a Martin it would be the newest looking martin on the planet.

If its not a knock off by some random cuemaker then I would lean most to TAD but I'm wondering WTF a 3/8x10 pin is doing in it? And if it were TAD's martinesque cue then it should have a shorter butt cap too.

I'd get in touch with Bert Schrager to get the best opinion on if its one of his or Harvey Martins cues.....as Bert made cues in harveys style for quite a while.

Then contact Tad Kohara and send him some pics and see what he says too.

My bet is that none of the 3 cuemakers Bert, Harvey, TAD made this cue.

It looks far too "new" to be a martin and if someone had it refinished like that they should be shot and skinned IMOP

Wrong pin for a TAD

Def the wrong buttcap for it to be a Schrager or Martin.

AND....Look at the BUMPER.....LOOKS BRAND SPANKING NEW?

There are way too many things with this cue that are setting alarms off in my head.

No doubt is a wonderful looking cue tho and I'm sure it does play very well.

Go straight to the source like I told ya.....don't BS it......if I'm wrong and it is a Martin then it would be worth basically double of whatever the TAD would have been which depending on the date the the cues from those two guys in that style are fetching up to a couple grand for a TAD and up to ohh I'd say 4k for a martin.

But if thats a Martin it may be worth more as its got alot of characteristics that are not common to his cues at all.

Hell I think Harvey's joint pin had more of a beveled tip as opposed to being more round like what yours is showing.

hope that helps best I could figure out,

Wow thats a lot of good info Thanks a lot. You say theres an Identicle cue in the blue book. Does that cue have thin phenolic bands. One ring being on top of butt cap and a ring above and below the wrap? I'll get some better pics today. Also how can I contact Tad? I will search but if anyone knows please post.

Bumper is not right to be a Tad or Martin....butt sleeve looks too long also. From the angle you show, the joint pin appears to a standard Atlas pin. Inital guess.....somebody fairly recently assembled a cue to resemble an old Tad or Martin. Looks like a nicely made cue. Better, clearer pics would indeed help.

Anyone have recommendations for what kind of camera to use?? I've been snapping pics all morning and can not get good clear pics.

better pics

If you have a macros option (the symbol is a little flower) then use that. Also, if you can get the cue into some natural sunlight that might help too. And some sort of tripod or base to keep the picture from being jittery. Looks like a nicely made cue.

Here's some clearer pics :)

Negative the cue is very very similar but not identical, the TAD "martin style " cue does not have rings on the top or bottom of the wrap. Just above the buttcap and the joint collars but no rings on the joint.

Bert Scrager

they may could lead you to who did the work(big maybe)

Take a pic of the inside of the buttcap......that could possibly give us more clues as to whom made it.

Who did you get the cue from? Thats would be a good lead to trace back......

I know the person I purchased the cue from but I won't put there name on here. He say's its a Tad and I've known him for about 3 years but I recently purchased the cue from him about 5-6 months ago. He told me never to sell the cue because I'd never find another one like it again and that when the economys good it would sell for around $20,000+ he just went on and on about how great this cue was. So he told me he would sell it to me to use. The deal was that if I ever decided I wanted to sell it, it went back to him for what I paid for it. Well I just recently asked him to buy the cue back. He said he definetly wanted it back so I thought everything was cool. Well he's been avoiding me ever since and I know it's not because he doesnt have the money. I just think I was fed a bunch of BS about it and I'm just trying to find out what it really is. If it's a Tad great but if not thats cool too. Got an $800 Whitten case with it and didnt pay that much more for the cue. I will contact Tad and ask him for his opinion. I asked about the cue in the blue book because he has a almost identical cue to this one and it has thin phenolic rings so it could be that cue. I know on his other cue it has the ring above the butt cap and thought it had rings above and below the wrap, but I'm not positive on that. Anyways Thanks for the help and I'll take a pic of the butt with the bumper out and post it up later tonight when I get off work.

Got a feeling I'm not gonna like this!!

For some reason I became sick in the stomach when I removed the rubber bumper :( Take a look!

I'm wondering if this could be the newer style plain TAD that his son is making. Still a great cue, but no where near 20K. 1K is more in the ballpark.

Could be, I hope its a Tad. I'm gonna contact Tad or Fred Kohara tomorrow and see if I can email them some pics of it.

yea Jay is absolutely correct on the pricing......

if I were you I would lose that D*K's number b/c he flat out lied to you, if you want to sell it sell it but not back to his lying butt. even if it is a tad or his sons....dont matter

20 thousand dollars WTF!

IF YOU WANT TO OWN NICE CUES.....STUDY AND BUY A BLUE BOOK

OR SOMEONE WILL SMOKE YOU ONE DAY.......FOR A BIG CHUNK

Hell I got a nice cue some time ago for a very good price.....guy wanted 650 i believe and it was hollered down from the mountain tops that it was a Jerry R. Offered 400 and homeboy took it. Everything did really point that it was one of Jerrys cues......NEGATIVE

BULLSHIT

Cue was nice and played very good. Was supposed to be Ivory in the buttsleeve......pics were good and it dam well looked like ivory. I take dam good care of all my cues.....very good care.

CUE WAS WARPED IN THE BUTT......started right in the middle of the handel.

I removed the wrap and it had B-18 written on it......got in touch with Jerry and he said NOPE NOT MINE.

I put it on my lathe and found where the warp originated which was about 6" below the "A" joint........so I'm basically rebuilding the whole a** end of the cue.

The "Ivory" must have been some eyevory lmfao nothing but some dam plastic....pretty piece of plastic tho.

What I do know is that cue had to have been worked on b/f in the buttsleeve area.....cuz it was all WRONG, whomever did work on that cue should be slapped in the face IMOP.

And if who sold me that cue....you know who you are.....I aint' that mad cuz hell it gives me something to do and I don't mind fixing someones F*K ups.

When its finished (correctly) I'll sell the thing for 400 and get my money back and some one will get a nice cue.....but I'm not going to BS them with pricing and this and that guys name.

Take a look.......poor cue......thats what makes me P.O.'D is that someone messed the cue up. Cues don't do nothing to you so why treat them like a red headed step child.

Whomever built it did a good job and then someone went b/h them and GAFFED IT.

So i basically paid 400 for a finished shaft and a set of half spliced points.

for that price I could have gotten a fine fine fine fullspliced blank from John Davis..........

If I didn't build cues I would have been stuck with a POS cue.....b/c I wont sell something warped like that to anyone....aint my bag baby.

That poor poor cue.....its a shame really....its ok tho cuz I'm going to re-do the cue from the 'A' joint down and she'll be back in action hopefully sometime soon. If i do........I'll put on some REAL IVORY lol

Looks like an Atlas cue to me, meaning assembled with a bunch of Atlas supplies. The phenolic is old and had time to brown, so either it's old stock phenolic or the cue is at least 5 years old, but not much older if it is. Coulda been built by any one of several hundred builders. I would imagine TAD would have a stamp or logo or signature somewhere. One guy guessed good with an older Prewitt. But to be honest, there's a hundred barely & unknown builders on the west coast that are more than capable of building this exact cue. Nice cue. Good luck finding it's builder.

Are you holding the shutter button down half way for a second to let the camera focus? You can try flash too.

Looks like a 5/16x14 joint pin, definitely not a TAD, IMHO. TAD and Fred don't attach butt caps to their newer cues using a screw like that. It's probably made recently by someone unknown, it looks like its pretty well made.

I bought a cue identical to this on ebay about 4 years ago. Paid about $350 if I recall. I can't remember the maker, but he was a relatively new comer. I think I flipped it for $450, but I recall that it was a well made cue and played well. It was advertised as a TAD imitation to me. I want to say CAM, but not sure.
