Live streaming exhibitions??

Just want opinions. Here is mine, as you may have read Archer and Hatch will be do a exhibition at the beginning of Dec. I am thinking about live streaming it. for more info see here http://www.legendschampions.com/

So here is my thoughts on this. If we stream it (Free) will anyone tune in to watch as these events are awesome in person but not sure how they would be on livestream.
Also if it is streamed could that stop people from coming out to the pool room and just sit at home and watch? If they stay home and watch that loses the atmosphere at the event and loses money forthe room owner who is putting up the $$.

Last thing if it is streamed from Denver and then we decide to go to Austin,TX will people in Austin say "Oh I just saw that on the net, I don't need to goand see it now" basically will it ruin it for other stops?

I am very mixed on this.

to be honest, most streaming viewers are hard core pool junkies that watch streaming all the time. those people would probably get bored watching someone do an exhibition.
Just don't think it would get the viewers worth the time and effort, JMO

YEah, I kinda agree with ya. it seems like there are not very many positives to this. Thanks for your thoughts though. I am still open to ideas though as I want it to work.

Mark,

I pretty much agree with the rest of the responses, The most interest to the viewer would be the pro's playing each other. The people that watch the streams are generally there to see pool played at it's highest level

To answer your other question, NO I don't think that having it streamed would effect your attendance, most people would be attending 50% to watch what the players are doing and 50% to interact with the players by asking questions and having the chance to play with or against them.

Hope this helps,

Dave

What the hell do you know about this stuff anyway? :) I never got your email btw.

Here's my opinion, Mark. I'm seriously new to this world of pool, though I'm not a kid. I'm enthralled with pretty much the whole thing. I would love to see the proposed stream.

But...

Given the reality of my world, I wouldn't be able to make it "appointment viewing" as the TV networks try to phrase it. Between work and family, if I had the chance to turn the stream on, I would do so, in a heartbeat.

On the other hand, if you were to hold that exhibition anywhere near to me (which you would never do consdiering where I live, out in the woods.... but for the sake of the discussion) I would try very hard to arrange time to go see it in person. There would be no comparison for me, and I would never sit at home and watch a stream of an exhibition such as this if i could get to see it in person in a reasonable manner.

I would like to think this applies to many folks. Maybe I'm wrong, I often am. I am married, after all. ;)

I think people would be interested in the match and would watch it, I do not think its worth the time/money to do it for a 1 hour match IMO. If you do a legends challenge with say Keith vs Earl then it would be a huge draw especially if it was a one day race to 25 or something. :)

Yeah, I agree. Oh and McCready v Mataya is on its way. Just need the guys to be in stroke a little. I hope to be making that announcement pretty soon. Thanks for the input.

In the woods?? We have done many exhibitions in the middle of nowhere and often times are the most fun. Where do you live?

McCready vs Mataya! This sounds good, mic them up and put a beer or 2 in their hands and its pure gold. I am a fan of both players. :)

Bangor, Maine. Just a little bit out of the way. :D

Not exactly "on the way" to anywhere, unless you're driving to maritime Canada. So you'd have to be intending on coming this way. Which I wouldn't expect of any sort of exhibition tour. And I understand that.

(Mike Massey did tour up here last year, 3 stops over the state. VERY cool. Glad I went.)

I just don't know as you'd be able to draw the amount of people here that you would likely need to make it work. I most certainly would love to see it!

I tell you this, Mark. You bring an exhibition "up" here, and I'll certainly help you promote it!

matya and keith what a dream come true, that is better then stand up comedy, yes micing them up would be awsome, probably have to put a parental warning out though

Well if you have any suggestions of places please shoot me an email cantrillmark@yahoo.com we can probably make a tour out of it up the east coast. Lets see.

My angle on this is I am very pool hall deprived:(, I would not miss a chance to go to an event like this unless I had something come up that made it impossible for me to get there (like I died or something). Someday there may be a time where every pool room has the equipment to stream its events but that time is not now. If it cost $$$ and is a pain to set up then may be the stream can wait.

I was lucky enough to get to Billiards Ink this last summer to watch the Denver 10 ball open, and I was able to meet a bunch of AZ'ers and watch the best players in town . It is not the same when watching it on the computer. The way I see it.... if I can support a pool room by showing up and playing, eating, and hanging out for a day then that will help make an event a success it is more likely be there every year:wink:.

So you do know where we are! :D I am actually sitting about a quarter mile away from Downeast Billiards in Ellsworth as I type this, surfing AZB instead of working. Corey is good people. And yes, you can certainly get good lobster rolls around here. ;)

Actually, now that you've mentioned it, I had heard about that visit from some of the people I play with. I have seen 2 or 3 cue-cases with their autographs on them, one of which I see virtually every week. That visit was before I got addicted, er... introduced to this fine game of ours.

Oh well, glad to be wrong on this one! And my offer still stands, you come back this way again and I'll distribute the flyers and such around. Talk to the newspapers and TV stations and such. That would be a blast!
